Watching this is December 2021 and its amazing how Prof G nailed the inflation prediction.
Responding from the future, it’s interesting that Scott said that the cause of the inflation is the increase of the money supply between January and December 2020. In 2022, everyone is solely blaming Biden, who was inaugurated in January 2021.

Nakamoto's consensus protocol increases the computational complexity of mining bitcoin over time. Increased complexity leads to increased hardware costs for miners. Increased hardware costs raise the barrier to entry for mining (remember, miners are the backbone of the network). All of this results in increased centralization around a few mining pools (currently around 19). It is worth considering this trend before you buy something that you assume will always be thoroughly decentralized. FOMO may very well pump the price much higher, but just keep an eye on the growing divergence between the advertising (decentralization) and reality (fewer miners).

Long term investor's know that the market and economy will recover eventually, and investors should be positioned for such a rebound, I gained $270k from bitcoin of 2021. Another "safe haven" to protect against inflation is investing in companies. Companies that add value to the economy and have a competitive advantage which keeps them relevant will be able to overcome inflation by raising or lowering prices of the good and services based on input costs. Hence, the best companies are not really affected by the rate of currency inflation. Example: Coca Cola in Turkey. Even during hyperinflation, the coke business in Turkey was fine , because they were able to change the product pricing to keep pace with inflation. Hence, companies are actually the biggest "safe haven" right now . If you look at all assets currently in the world, equities far outweigh gold + bitcoin + cash combined.

inflation is already happening. A burrito at the local taco stand went from 5.25 to 7.50, at a nice place it went from 9 to 11 bucks. We can't measure inflation based on the cost of a refigerator someone buys every 10 years. Americans are feeling the hurt already.

Crypto is nothing more than an "in addition to" an inflation hedge. Crypto, physical gold and silver should all be a part of ones diversified investment portfolio. "The might be bitcoin" is the key here.

Watching in Nov 2022 and there's a lot more climbing to $100k
Most of the money supply is being used as savings and to pay down debt at this moment. It’s not an inflationary event. BTC is thin air. All of its value is tied to the belief that it has value. Most people will have to accept the entire value of the data behind the chain as a measure of value. In addition, you need to spread out ownership of bitcoin as most of it is concentrated in China. China understands the macroeconomic implications of any move that would negatively impact the US economy. There’s no China... there’s Chimerica. Their future is greatly tied to our future. If we fail as a market, where will their exports go? This is the fragile balance between the search for world dominance and the USD role as the world’s reserve.

True for BTC, also true for USD.
US fiat Dollar has a GDP behind it, not unlike a national balance sheet. It will be interesting to see if a "trust system protocol" has long term value. Hopefully, ways to trust each other in transactions has made banks the brokers of capitalism.

All value is tied to belief. You can only sell something at the amount that a buyer believes it has value.
Ownership of bitcoin is not concentrated in China. You are confused with hash power that comes from miners. Even then that is around 30% but that has nothing to do with ownership.

bitcoin will never be used as a fiat currency unless governments regulate and support it, which kind of defeats the point of having bitcoins.
1:53 How much is printed is determined by a private entity called the "Federal" Reserve. Which is as federal as Walmart. The whole point is that the government has no direct control over the money supply.

How can something be a viable currency when it cant function as a remotely stable/viable store of value ? Any currency that fluctuates 50% in a year doenst meet that standard.

It’s a GOOD thing most foreign exchange reserves are in the US dollar. That means other countries trust the value of the dollar and want to hold on to it. It’s the reason why the dollar is the standard for international trade.

I was one of those who was trying to invest in Bitcoin (or some crypto) but was a little confused and put it a side for a couple months. 2 months later, the crash happened.

The US government doesn't control how much USD is printed. The federal reserve does and despite it's name the federal reserve isn't federal. It's a handful of banks. In summary: a handful of banks has more political power than the US government.

The bit about Bitcoin's volatility did not age well. Honestly, I don't touch cryptos. They seem like a FOMO-driven Ponzi scheme.
You are right. About 90% of the bitcoins purchased is NOT with dollar but with Tether, a 'virtual' dollar that is simply created by the owner of the Tether. They say that for every 1 Tether, they have 1 dollar, but it has been proven they don't. They are currently under investigation by the New York Attorney General, look it up :)

@@joelmonteiro1419 Yes, the Tether would bust and becomes nearly worthless. The bitcoin price would drop significantly as the price was immensely inflated by the Tether. What strikes me the most is that that the Tether fraud has been reported by quality newspapers like FT, but people tend to ignore it. Very similar to 2008 in a way. As pointed out, It is not a classic Ponzi scheme indeed.

@@geomaniac23 You're wrong. Bitcoin can easily reach a markecap that will necessarily stabilize the value within a decade. Bitcoin is already close to the marketcap of Silver. Within a decade it can achieve the marketcap of Gold. The volatility will level out and stabilize once it reaches 10+ trillion marketcap.
It's an emergent store of value. Key word being emergent. Volatility decreases as the market cap continues to mature. But it will lack the breathtaking gains once it gets there.

A video that became stale within twelve hours of being uploaded. Bitcoin dropped over 20% in the last two days.
Imho tearly by far for such a verdict. Certainly there couldn’t have been a better confirmation of BTC’s volatility.
The prediction of BTC going to 50 000,- does not at all rule out a very bumpy ride on the way :-)

The idea that a currency backed by a fiat metal is somehow better than a currency backed by a strong economy producing goods and services you can buy with those dollars is a big pile of BS.
Book recommendation: debt the first 5000 years. Its kinda a history of currency and debt as told by an anthropologist. It contrasts ledger based and coin based currencies.
Why don't we, the American people by back the US debt?
