Mountain Lake and Surf Fishing Success in the Same Day!

This goal was to head up to the mountain for some trout fishing/catching, come home and go surf fishing/catching for the evening. Mission accomplished. It makes for a tiring day as I'm on the road for about 4-5 hours depending on traffic, but it was worth it.
Unfortunately, the mountain lake fishing for trout was slow. So, for all that driving, this is quite a short video, but, I hope you enjoy it. I did!

What length rod for the surf perch?

Anywhere from 7' medium to 8.5' ultralight, but mostly the 7' as I'm also fishing for larger fish at the same time, so I need the stiffness of the medium.

@@StartFishingToday Thanks! I mostly use 10 footers for perch, halibut, stripers in NorCal. But would like to use/try shorter, lighter rod like the new the Okuma SP surf perch rod.

Here, 90% of the fish are within 20 or 30 yards (mostly on the closer side), so the 9' and bigger rods are unnecessry. I fish with a 7' medium 80% of the time in the surf.

@@StartFishingToday I'm very envious of your fishing success and surf conditions that you can fish. We get surf conditions somewhat like that in the Santa Cruz area. From what I've experienced in most other NorCal areas, it's "wading out!" or casting heavy bait and wait gear. I/Me is a small sample. I always enjoy your videos, fishing commentary and technique tips.
