Trent's grandparents are my favorite part of this family (no offense to Trent and Allie...you're awesome too). You're grandma is just like the epitome of old American grandma and I love when she makes appearances.

You might want to connect your grandparents’ doorbell to their indoor lighting system to flicker when the bell rings. My mother-in-law is extremely hard of hearing and that one change gave her so much more confidence to know when someone was outside. Great Christmas idea!!

I thought the same thing. I used to do home health care and one of my clients had that and it worked great for them to know someone was running the doorbell. They also have them for phones , ringing. But I think that's only for landlines.
I put up a motion detector in the front and back of my home ! 1. If you don’t hear it the light tells you someone is at your door & 2. You can see who it is so whether or not you want to open the door!! Congratulations again to you all !!
He’s adorable! Remember infants can’t regulate their temperature very well and as a premie, it’s even more difficult. Keep ginger snap bundled up all the time. Layers work great. You got this Allie!
Yes I was worried too about them not keeping him wrapped up an no socks..when I saw Trent bring him out in his carseat with no blanket on an no socks I was shocked especially since they were saying how cold it was..Allie please don't get hurt feelings please we just care an we know ur a new mommy we've all been there but newborns especially preemies can't keep their body temperature up so well so he needs to really be in a gown or sleeper with socks in the house all the time.with a onesie on underneath. He should be fine like that in the house as long as it's warm an a good tip is when u take him outside wrap a good thick blanket around him an take a large baby blanket over the top of his carseat to keep the cold air off of him! You guys are great all new parents need some advice for sure ly guys

They do need to be in warmer clothing and blankets than parents as newborns. Especially preemie little newborns but he was warmly bundled after they got back home
I am sure that the inside of that house is toasty warm, very warm especially heating with a wood stove. Did you notice Allie with only a tank top and Adam shirtless? Besides as small as he is, they probably have no socks small enough to stay on his feet. As long as they are covered well on trips outside of the house, baby will be fine.
My baby was also born at 36 weeks. When I took her home 13 years ago she was only 5 lbs 8 oz and now she is 5'10" and in a size 10 shoe! It seems like yesterday when I brought her home and held that tiny little baby. Enjoy EVERY moment because before long, they are taller than you!

My mom’s advice when I had my first baby. “Rest when you can, you’ll need it for the night feedings”, and if you’re nursing, “Drink a cup of herbal tea while baby nurses to keep your fluid intake up.” Oh, and congratulations,🎉babies are a blessing. ❤️

Alaskan with several Alaskan kids. Do NOT buckle kids into carseats with coats on. In the event of a roll over accident you want those carseat straps as snug as possible. Use blankets as they are and warm layered outfits. Also keep emergency blankets, food, clothing, shoes, and shovels in the car especially during the winter. Also make sure you have an emergency backpack with everything you and the baby need for three days and update it regularly as the baby grows and seasons change.
Living in a very cold climate you need to get a warm cover that goes over the car seat and keeps them warm. I had twin preemie baby boys that were 3.8 and 4.5 lbs. Even in the house where it was warm, we had to keep them wrapped like a cocoon because they would just shiver because they were so small. If y’all buy any preemie clothes don’t get very many cause he will grow out of them quick! Y’all are going to be wonderful parents. Give him a kiss from all of us aunties and uncles on here! ❤️
Yes!!! Thanks for posting this! I kept saying "Gingersnap needs more clothes on!" Those onsie PJs give good coverage. And the snap open crotch makes for easy diaper changes. Love his little toboggan hats. Those help keep him warm too.

Cool fact: I was in college a few years (6) ago and my anthropology teacher who also helped perform a research study on infants in car seats and death.. They were having trouble figuring out why infants sleeping in car seats were more prone to sids... Anyway, she helped design the 90 minute test that is now performed on newborns... Any way... Up here in Canada, they (OBGYN) are advising not to swaddle as it’s proven to lead to SIDS. I haven’t researched it myself but my pregnant daughter is taking it seriously. Strange as I swaddled her 30 yrs ago.
This brings back so many memories - my first born was 4 weeks early - had some issues where he had to go to a different hospital…. We did not name him for 3 days…. But he made it through those first couple of weeks and no problems since then. He is now an amazing 27 year old man!!!

My dad passed away on November 4th and with the birth of your precious baby boy it's a happy day to remember. My daughter was also born early and weighed 5lb 8oz. Honestly, my mom came to stay with me for a few weeks after I had my baby and I don't know how I would have managed without her! I'm sure I would have figured it out, but it was a big relief and much appreciated. It's fantastic your mom can come and stay. Your mom looks so excited, and you two looks so happy, and baby looks amazing! I know babies always fool us by being in a bit of a stupor those first few days and as parents we've got that adrenaline pumping through us but my advice is always sleep when baby sleeps! It's so valuable!

Every new mom needs their mom. Nothing replaces the wisdom & love of a grandma. My son required a bilirubin light at home, which was 2 days after 9/11, so the light reps weren’t allowed to travel, so we had to figure it out ourselves. Very easy fix. Don’t be intimidated. You’re crushing it❣️

What is the theory and who came up with skin to skin for bonding? Does that mean that kids that didn’t get skin to skin didn’t bond? Just curious? I’m great grandmother and just trying to understand these new methods! My girls were taught to keep their babies wrapped tightly after they were born and I saw they seemed to feel more secure! But then later even though the parents wore coats and jackets, their babies went without! They never seemed to get sick, so guess it is okay! Though I have heard babies loose body heat faster, when they are older, thus the hat! So many choices!!! They have a beautiful baby who is loved and he couldn’t have gotten better parents!

The scent of mama contains chemicals that stimulate the baby's brain. Mum or Dad's body is the best way to regulate temperature, something that preemies can struggle with. We mothers all do the best with what we know at the time, and there is no shame in not knowing.

Congratulations! So happy for you and your expanding family! When my sister had her first (at 41) she called me after a week and asked if I could come over and help so she could take a shower. After her shower I asked if she wanted a nap while I was there. She slept for hours! Daily tasks and self care are exhausting with a new baby at home. I’m glad you have help! Baby’s first Christmas will be so wonderful especially with grandparents and great grands too!!

Tips and tricks my lil girl was a very happy baby, I did ask a lot of advice even though I was 40yrs old when I gave birth. I did put her on a schedule it wasn’t a strict schedule but it helped, she always woke up happy and went to bed happy, I was blessed. The tip is a bath every night before bedtime I used Lavender baby wash. Which really worked , a breast feeding and then bedtime. The hospital gave me a cd of soft music I played it, she loved it. She is now 19 and has always been a pure joy. I can give a few good tips for later on when he’s a lil older. Enjoy this time, I’m soooo happy for you both. He looks like both of you. He’s beautiful like you guys are!!!

Allie look up a recipe called “boobie bites”. It’s made with rolled oats, peanut butter, honey, flax seed and I always added chocolate chips. They sit overnight. I would eat one an hour before nursing/pumping. I felt it worked great. Also drink LOTS AND LOTS of water to help your milk production. I can not stress this enough seriously.
Also “Boob cookies”.. has flax seed milk snd Brewers yeast.. they are really a oatmeal chocolate chip cooking with those two ingredients in them. They help and is a small sweet treat.
I agree with Allie. I just want to look at his beautiful face too. It was hard to watch Trent working on the railings with that beautiful baby in the house! I am so happy your mom is able to be there for you. Thank you for sharing so many wonderful moments with us!

I thought the same thing. I used to do home health care and one of my clients had that and it worked great for them to know someone was running the doorbell. They also have them for phones , ringing. But I think that's only for landlines.
I put up a motion detector in the front and back of my home ! 1. If you don’t hear it the light tells you someone is at your door & 2. You can see who it is so whether or not you want to open the door!! Congratulations again to you all !!

Yes I was worried too about them not keeping him wrapped up an no socks..when I saw Trent bring him out in his carseat with no blanket on an no socks I was shocked especially since they were saying how cold it was..Allie please don't get hurt feelings please we just care an we know ur a new mommy we've all been there but newborns especially preemies can't keep their body temperature up so well so he needs to really be in a gown or sleeper with socks in the house all the time.with a onesie on underneath. He should be fine like that in the house as long as it's warm an a good tip is when u take him outside wrap a good thick blanket around him an take a large baby blanket over the top of his carseat to keep the cold air off of him! You guys are great all new parents need some advice for sure ly guys

They do need to be in warmer clothing and blankets than parents as newborns. Especially preemie little newborns but he was warmly bundled after they got back home
I am sure that the inside of that house is toasty warm, very warm especially heating with a wood stove. Did you notice Allie with only a tank top and Adam shirtless? Besides as small as he is, they probably have no socks small enough to stay on his feet. As long as they are covered well on trips outside of the house, baby will be fine.

Trent has been a Dad for a long time. Bit of a adjustment going from a teen back to a baby.
My baby was also born at 36 weeks. When I took her home 13 years ago she was only 5 lbs 8 oz and now she is 5'10" and in a size 10 shoe! It seems like yesterday when I brought her home and held that tiny little baby. Enjoy EVERY moment because before long, they are taller than you!
Same with my first born. He was just under 37 weeks, just over 6lbs but dipped under, 16 years later he is about 5’10” 180 lbs
My 3 pound ultra premie is now a mouthy 6’4” teenager lol.

Alaskan with several Alaskan kids. Do NOT buckle kids into carseats with coats on.
In the event of a roll over accident you want those carseat straps as snug as possible.
Use blankets as they are and warm layered outfits. Also keep emergency blankets, food, clothing, shoes, and shovels in the car especially during the winter.
Also make sure you have an emergency backpack with everything you and the baby need for three days and update it regularly as the baby grows and seasons change.

Living in a very cold climate you need to get a warm cover that goes over the car seat and keeps them warm. I had twin preemie baby boys that were 3.8 and 4.5 lbs. Even in the house where it was warm, we had to keep them wrapped like a cocoon because they would just shiver because they were so small. If y’all buy any preemie clothes don’t get very many cause he will grow out of them quick! Y’all are going to be wonderful parents. Give him a kiss from all of us aunties and uncles on here! ❤️
Yes!!! Thanks for posting this! I kept saying "Gingersnap needs more clothes on!" Those onsie PJs give good coverage. And the snap open crotch makes for easy diaper changes. Love his little toboggan hats. Those help keep him warm too.

They were having trouble figuring out why infants sleeping in car seats were more prone to sids... Anyway, she helped design the 90 minute test that is now performed on newborns...

Up here in Canada, they (OBGYN) are advising not to swaddle as it’s proven to lead to SIDS. I haven’t researched it myself but my pregnant daughter is taking it seriously. Strange as I swaddled her 30 yrs ago.

This brings back so many memories - my first born was 4 weeks early - had some issues where he had to go to a different hospital…. We did not name him for 3 days…. But he made it through those first couple of weeks and no problems since then. He is now an amazing 27 year old man!!!

My dad passed away on November 4th and with the birth of your precious baby boy it's a happy day to remember. My daughter was also born early and weighed 5lb 8oz. Honestly, my mom came to stay with me for a few weeks after I had my baby and I don't know how I would have managed without her! I'm sure I would have figured it out, but it was a big relief and much appreciated. It's fantastic your mom can come and stay. Your mom looks so excited, and you two looks so happy, and baby looks amazing! I know babies always fool us by being in a bit of a stupor those first few days and as parents we've got that adrenaline pumping through us but my advice is always sleep when baby sleeps! It's so valuable!

My son required a bilirubin light at home, which was 2 days after 9/11, so the light reps weren’t allowed to travel, so we had to figure it out ourselves. Very easy fix. Don’t be intimidated. You’re crushing it❣️

What is the theory and who came up with skin to skin for bonding? Does that mean that kids that didn’t get skin to skin didn’t bond? Just curious? I’m great grandmother and just trying to understand these new methods! My girls were taught to keep their babies wrapped tightly after they were born and I saw they seemed to feel more secure! But then later even though the parents wore coats and jackets, their babies went without! They never seemed to get sick, so guess it is okay! Though I have heard babies loose body heat faster, when they are older, thus the hat! So many choices!!! They have a beautiful baby who is loved and he couldn’t have gotten better parents!

Skin-to-skin contact promotes growth, brain development, milk production, better latching at the breast, so many things! Babies are amazing creatures, their sense of smell is intense, a brand newborn baby can crawl his way to his mother's nipple if placed on her bare skin. The scent of mama contains chemicals that stimulate the baby's brain. Mum or Dad's body is the best way to regulate temperature, something that preemies can struggle with. We mothers all do the best with what we know at the time, and there is no shame in not knowing.

Congratulations! So happy for you and your expanding family! When my sister had her first (at 41) she called me after a week and asked if I could come over and help so she could take a shower. After her shower I asked if she wanted a nap while I was there. She slept for hours! Daily tasks and self care are exhausting with a new baby at home. I’m glad you have help! Baby’s first Christmas will be so wonderful especially with grandparents and great grands too!!

Tips and tricks my lil girl was a very happy baby, I did ask a lot of advice even though I was 40yrs old when I gave birth. I did put her on a schedule it wasn’t a strict schedule but it helped, she always woke up happy and went to bed happy, I was blessed. The tip is a bath every night before bedtime I used Lavender baby wash. Which really worked , a breast feeding and then bedtime. The hospital gave me a cd of soft music I played it, she loved it. She is now 19 and has always been a pure joy. I can give a few good tips for later on when he’s a lil older. Enjoy this time, I’m soooo happy for you both. He looks like both of you. He’s beautiful like you guys are!!!

Allie look up a recipe called “boobie bites”. It’s made with rolled oats, peanut butter, honey, flax seed and I always added chocolate chips. They sit overnight. I would eat one an hour before nursing/pumping. I felt it worked great. Also drink LOTS AND LOTS of water to help your milk production. I can not stress this enough seriously.

Just like his parents 💜 I hate to hear about his sleeping issue, as most newborns, that is mainly their little bodies jobs at first ( well, plus the eating & pooping 🤣) Isn't it crazy that feeling bringing your first baby home and once you settle in after a couple of hours it's like "Now What 🤷♀️" Best thing I can tell you is.....here comes the most amazing days of your life!!!! Enjoy your precious baby boy and as quickly as time does go by, savor every moment 💜

I'm not a mommy yet, but I can tell the reason Allie didn't sleep for 3 days is because of that protective mommy instinct is already in full gear. She sleeps when she knows the baby is alright and safe. - I'm so glad that everything worked out for you both!!! :) The energy coming from you as new parents, excited for the future is so beautiful too!!!
