And one thing I loved about the 2000s Power Ranger series was that they were not focused on the nostalgia of MMPR, they were focus on moving forward and evolving the franchise from the MMPR days. And it's all thanks to the witer Judd Lynn (who was more about doing his own thing). We wrote "In Space" and other stuff post Zordon-era and even came back to "RPM" (which is one of my personal favorites). He was not afraid of making the franchise more darker and that's why I loved "RPM". It's a real shame that that Saban and Hasbro the crew have gotten lazy with just relying on the MMPR nostalgia. That is a problem and that's a fact.
I'm glad to see someone feels the exact same way I do about mmpr I don't necessarily hate Mighty Morphin Power Rangers but my main issue is that I feel like it gets way too much attention more than the other seasons do and to be honest I feel like the other Seasons that followed after Mighty Morphin contributed more to the franchise than mmpr did and the reason why I say that is because if it wasn't for Seasons like in space Lost Galaxy Time Force Lightspeed Rescue and Wild Force even the Disney era seasons despite the ups and downs that that era had dough seasons are the reason why the franchise is still around right to this day and it's definitely not because of mmpr I'm also very annoyed how a lot of the newer Seasons try to make themselves like the original instead of wanting to focus on the future of Power Rangers like the other seasons did before them
The clear indicator of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers being used as a nostalgic crutch is especially evident in the Neo-Saban as well as Hasbro era theme songs, which are clearly remixes of the "Go Go Power Rangers" theme song whether inserted in the openings from Dino Charge onwards or rehashed from Power Rangers Samurai to Power Rangers Super Megaforce. This is a major shame because, after several awesome opening songs from Power Rangers Time Force, Power Rangers in Space, Power Rangers Lost Galaxy, Power Rangers RPM, Power Rangers Jungle Fury, Power Rangers Dino Thunder, and Power Rangers SPD, the composers ended up rehashing the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers theme tune as an attempt to reel in Power Rangers fans. However, that fails because nostalgia for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is used as a crutch and as an indicator that they cannot formulate something novel and barely attempted.

I used to love MMPR, but I got more into the seasons that came after more. The earliest episodes of MMPR was painful to sit through until the introduction of Tommy Oliver. I enjoyed the later seasons of Power Rangers from 1999-2002 more than the earliest episodes of MMPR, not because I had more toys of them, it's because the writing is starting to get better and better. While MMPR to In Space has a huge saga surrounding Zordon, Power Rangers moved on to different arcs by following the Super Sentai formula (same concept, different story and characters).
I wasn’t a huge Rangers fan (outside of the first two seasons and the two Sega Genesis games), so when the new special arrived on Netflix, there was nothing to complain about. I had friends who had tried to get me into the later stuff, but I had moved on to anime and honestly, it was the right choice for story, characters, emotion and real stakes. Still, the special had it's moments. I do like Trini's daughter, she kicked ass. Seeing the old Rangers again and fighting a gritty Rita was fun. It helps that it was a short 55 minute experience, too.
I get MMPR is the first thing that people were exposed to back in the day but come on, they were other ranger shows that were around back in the day. That's just pure lazyness asf in my opinion, Once a Ranger was okay i get why JDF didn't want to do it because he felt like he couldn't go back to Tommy Oliver after he started work on Legend of the White Dragon. The future of PR isn't too bright it's going to get worst and worst as i know it. Hasbro doesn't know what they're doing with the franchise if they don't want to fully adapt the current Super Sentai seasons okay? Hasbro won't allow Boom Studios to make monthly comics of other ranger seasons but MMPR and why? because according to them we like this stuff and not the other seasons which is bullshit not all of us love MMPR so much to leave out the other seasons. I haven't watched a full season of PR in ages and i don't plan to, It's so souless, so boring and a waste of time to even bother watching. Once a Ranger was okay but nothing that exciting but okay.

Joseph Kahn did a "dark and gritty" version of MMPR. It was just a fan film but still better than anything Saban would put out.
