Notion was essential for me. Not only did I use it as a project management/to-do app, I actually coded my qualitative research using it.

Andy Stapleson, 2021.
Hi, thank you so much for doing this video! I just started my phd studies two weeks ago. To get this information at the beginning of my phd is very helpful!
I think you should do a video on the habits that a PhD student must have, with these apps or with other things like reading or check emails
Hi Andy, I discovered your channel just now and I just loved what you shared. They are so much handy for my Ph. D. work. Some of the statements you said, I can relate since I have also spoken in a similar way.

Indeed very useful tips, thank you for your motivational talk
Your videos are amazing!❤❤ I wish I had found them during the tough times with my toxic supervisor during my PhD. Thankfully, I've graduated now, thank God! I'm currently searching for a good postdoc. Your videos are fantastic, and I wish I could have had a supervisor like you! 😊
I just used Insight timer for 8 minutes and Oh. My. God. I was stressing out and just 8 minutes took such a weight off! I cant wait to try the other apps!

I often whip out a sketch in Paint when I think of an illustration and drop it in my Word document, then later draw it out with proper drawing software. But for a quick and dirty reminder, Paint is great.
That's a really great idea! thanks for adding it to the comments!
Thank you soo much sir 🙏🙏
Hi Andy,
I found your channel today actually and it's excellent.
I do like your recommendations, I found Grammarly useful as well. I had bought a month of premium but didn't renew, what is your opinion, is the premium version worth it?
Also, I also agree that you need some software for graphics. My uni does provide us with microsoft visio for free, do you think GIMP/Inkscape are more useful for producing graphics?
Thanks!
Been waiting for this vid thanks.
More to come - I'm pleased it was useful - any recommendations for future vids?
@@DrAndyStapleton, I know about this can be so future for what you talking about right now, but "How to publish an article in a scientific journal?"
Thank you so much
Hi Andy!
Love your content!
I have a question for you, when do I say it’s time to change my phD advisor.
Very useful, thank you.
You're welcome!
Great job
Thank you so much it was so helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
9:09 That description, I can relate!
Hi Andy, enjoying your advice on your channel. I’m postdoc-ing in the academia world at the moment and improving my skills in biochemistry. Is it organic or inorganic chemistry you’re specialised in?
I downloaded some TH-cam noise videos. I have a laptop as well as a desktop and I think I'm going to start playing the white noise on the laptop behind me just to see if it helps.
Thank you 🍒.
Good job Andy. Best wishes from Sri Lanka
Thanks 👍
Thank you so much. Greetings from Uganda. Just know you are talking to me.
I wish you would make a video t aching us how to search for relevant literature.
Obsidian > Evernote (by quite a margin when it comes to notes and searching). With the Kanban plugin, it can also replace Asana/Trello.
Thank you for that tip! I just got started with Obsidian and it's just beautiful
Hello! Do you recommend any note taking app to write a thesis? Is it time saving? Thank you!
I like mentality of this Guy!!! 👍
Helpful video! Pomodoro app?
can you tell me which Asana app you are talking about, i find too many wih the same name
thank you for information, did you use latex or word or what for writing your thesis.Another thing I want to ask please. After I did a plan for my thesis and divided it to sections and subsections. I started to search on academic websites, but wasting massive of time and didn't find what I want. so, today I will start to read a professional article and will sort it on sections . Did you understand me. Is that trues? :) happy for your channel
Keep up the great work! I'm an undergraduate (senior) looking forward to the future. These videos are super fun and helpful. Thank you so much!
Thank you! Will do!
Do you have a more recent version of this list? Several new apps have come out since then, like Logseq, Obsidian and Research Rabbit.
which tool should I
use to collect primary data
Just found your channel. I'm moving to Vienna tomorrow to start my PhD. Great video, very helpful!
P.s. I think there is a mistake in the description: at 2:55 you're not talking about evernote
Thank you - I updated the info!
In which university, and what's your field of study?
Do you recommend one note from mocrosoft to take a note?
Would you recommend Grammarly over Antidote?
Hello, do you know apps to work in a project with more people?
Can you make a content about how to annotate papers for first year PhD students? I find it difficult to keep information in mind as I am going through tons of papers.
Use your citation manager! Both Zotero and Mendeley let you take notes about what you're reading. I'd also jot down pull quotes with page numbers for later citation.
I had found a website for academics to make detailed diagrams for papers with all kinds of subject matter, and thought it was free. Anyone remember the site?
thanks Andy
No worries
How to add citations in Google Docs?
Thank you
You're welcome
Hello pls can anyone assist me on tools to draw diagrams like tablets microbials i think Doc Andy reccomended some app but i am still lost i appreciate any help offered thank you soo Much Andy
Hi everyone. I was searching for Smart Tribe, but I couldn't find their currently working website. Is anyone who uses it here?
Is there no way to contact you? :(
THanks
No problem
For social sciences???
The fact that a lot of your struggles/problems are so relatable makes me think you may have ADHD too!
Which time interval app to use? Searching for interval time or time interval, I am getting apps used for HIIT.
I use PomodoroToDo. They say the average person tops out around 52 min and needs 10-15 break to recoup, so the app is kinda based around that but does let you adjust
How the starting person to improve them self
hey Andy im starting my PhD in law this week. could you cover sthg specially for law students.
Some people have also asked me for humanities and other subjects I'm currently looking at my friendship group and seeing which ones I can pull together!
Anyone know of good election notebooks that can be used for free?
smart tribe looks like a tinder app
So, is there any app where you get notified about newly published papers related to a particular topic? Some of my friends who are doing PhD complain that they’re spending too much time searching for papers of interest to their field of study.
Academia sort of does this. I don't have the premium membership but I receive several emails with disclaiming new uploads...

Thanks for all your efforts, because the way you are speaking so motivative to me, but nowadays I am searching for PhD followship/scholarships. Any recommendations? Specially in USA & CANADA universities.

Best app for PhD in theoretical physics: Suicide prevention hotline
@Andy I apologize if this is a dumb question but here you mentioned Mendely/Zotoro/Endnote and on your other video (lit review writing) you mentioned the Excel Cheat Sheet.
Obviously their different tech but do those 3 softwares and the Excel thing serve the same function or are they accomplishing different things for the PhD student??
Hi my name is eliam
You look like Rajneesh -Osho. Sorry got distracted.
Most of those apps don'texist on Android which i think is completely stupid and unfair from those companies, particularly reference and statistics apps!
looks like smart tribe died or their site is broken
Thank you so much for a great session on PhD thesis.
