Gimli would be proud of your explorations. His only question would be: Where's the Mithril? Some of the best underground / abandoned mines / coal workings I've found online here at TH-cam. Thanks for your hard work and dedication to high quality content!

I believe the spot he is at is the old Freeland Eckley mine out back of my place here. Yep there sure is tunnels & shafts everywhere I have an air shaft at the end of my property. It helps to get rid of the ground water run off but I would never play around with it.

Thank you for taking us on these inner Earth adventures. My dad was a coal miner, beginning when he was 12 or 14. He worked at the mine across from his boyhood home in Indiana County. Your videos are awesome.

@@AnthraciteHorrorStories My dad passed in 1984. Born in 1921, it was not uncommon for children to work in the mines at a young age. His childhood home was in Pine Township. There were a few family owned mines in Pine, well off the beaten path, on dirt roads. Some people still refer to a town or location by mine names like Number 2 or Number 8.

@@AnthraciteHorrorStories Thank you. I’m 64 and I can remember him with the old miners bucket, coming home, black with coal dust. He became an electrician for sometime until the mines shut down. He then became an independent coal truck driver. He talked about the man trip - the buggy that took miners into the mine. His mine was a drift entrance. For decades after the mine closed, the entrance was wide open. The area has been reclaimed. Watching the videos you and Phil post, take me back in time to when he worked inside.

Looks like that might be the deepest mine you've gone into yet. It just kept going down and down. All your videos are great but I'd like to say that one of the things that fascinates me along with the rest are the entrances. I don't know why they fascinate me. Well, yes I do. Maybe it's because there's just a little hole that leads to a whole world - there's an aura of mystery about them, something I bet you feel when you find a new hole and look at it, wondering what it might lead to.

I believe that is the deep mine out back of where I live near Freeland Weatherly Pa. aka the Eckley Mine. It is stated about that mine in particular the tunnels stretch clear to the NY border. Another mine just west of Tamaqua stretches clear down to Reading & Allentown areas. All of those mines are no place to go screwing around in the fact they have been closed for a reason. Don't know how this dude is getting into some. I do know ppl can still get into that Freeland Eckley mine because local folks got pictures and video as well. I might be mistaken but this guy making the videos I believe is a relative of the Kunz family. They R local folks that have a long history with the RRs and some of the Museums near Tamaqua... i could be wrong he just looks familiar. I met most of the Kunz family thru my neighbors some come to my shop for work on their vehicles.

You are an excitable boy, glad you're enjoying your find. Do be careful though. Hard to be 100% sure, but it looks like you're in a long wall panel mine, coal of course, in many cases these are designed to collapse onto themselves. They could also be rock bolted on their ceilings, which is safer. Those panels can go on for 100s, if not 1000s of feet. Good luck, hope you find fun stuff. If we don't see anymore vids, we'll send a search party.

Ok I admit it, I’m addicted to your channel, I only wish I could do what you do. A Question: On the outside chance someone, not you, were reported loss in a mine you explored would you be able to assist in a rescue? Do you ever map out these areas for a later return or to share with another explorer or are you purely driven by instin. I’m very OCD I can’t imagine myself not detailing each turn or crossover, I just wanted to know how you brain works for figuring out where the hell you are. Sorry about the questions, I use to be an investigative journalist and details kept my readers interests wanting more, lol. I find your exploration
of these mines long lost to history and records invaluable. Be safe my friend.

It's crazy to think that except for your visit, this place has been in total darkness for many decades. The ghosts, the spirits of the men who built this, and toiled here are entombed with their old tools and darkened lanterns. I know I'd hear their voices if I ever went there.

That's saying alot. There is a bootleg aka illegal mine right out my back door with 3 guys that used to live in my old house at the bottom of the mine. They were stealing timbers hauled out of a collapsed mine nearby circa 1883. They operated the bootleg mine 3 years. July of the 3rd year they found out thee hard way ya cannot use rotted old mine supports. These ppl were poor as church mice around here. Most of the old houses and back yards ya cannot even find an old penny metal detecting that is how poor these ppl were.

Why would a coal chute be going down into a mine? I think that was a log flume for sending timbers down. It's even level in places which would mean no go for coal, but a boyant beam of wood would float with the current especiallly with some fellow pushing things along with his pike.
