I spread 75 yards of ag lime last year. This year my fert distributor had one ton bags of pelitilzer lime that 300# equals one ton of ag lime and spreads with a standard fert trailer. This pelitilzed acts fully in the first year but does not last as many years, 2 to 3 years at most. So far the results are amazing. I spread 600# to the acre on 30 acres that I just picked up that had been neglected for MANY years. After mowing off the field and liming I added 200# to the acre of triple 19 and got rain that night. The results within one week are amazing and the property owned is thrilled and so am I.
I just can’t see spend less on 20 tons of lime then what I would for two tons of pelletized. A few years back I got some bulk blended with pelletized, it was the best of both worlds. Thanks for watching

I've been doing a lot of researching, and I'm glad I came across your videos. The 5045E 2WD is probably the route I'm gonna go. I think it will do everything I need it to. Thanks for the videos. Keep em coming.
That tractor is doing a good job for you. They isn't anything wrong with 2 wheel drive. That is all my family had till 2009 . Still running a 2wd 2155 jd . Enjoyed watching you. Have a blessed week . Can't wait to see your dad help with hay this year
My dad until recently has only had two wheel drive tractors. Starting with an old 8N. He has always been able to do impressive things with two wheel drive. He also has a two wheel drive with a front end loader but yet has no issues with moving dirt and logs. Maybe some people just aren't as good drivers as others. You seemed to have no issue. Your videos are relaxing.
I’m not lucky, I’ve been blessed with opportunities in life and have worked hard since a young age to achieve goals. I try to use what I have to help people in need and my neighbors. I feel like God has helped me greatly and without him I’m nothing. Thank you
The 5045e did a fine job pulling the lime spreader. Tractor seems to be doing good. Some folks don’t know all they think they know about tractors. You got some good angles while spreading. I spread lime on my channel not to long ago and wasn’t able to get many good angles! Great video.
I think that the John Deer did a good job, with lime it is harder to get a consistent flow of material than fertilizer, it got better when you opened the gate up more!,good video.
ive seen that same spreader here were I am out in the winter salting parking lots with the tractor and spreader wich spreaders are great multi purpose uses
As for the JD E series, they are good basic tractors and you get what you pay for. My cousin has a brand new 5075E 2wd and yes it is a good tractor but about as basic as you can get. I was kinda shocked it didn't even have a shuttle shift as stock. I found the shifting to be horrible and clunky with a crazy shift pattern too. The JD E does not compare to a Kubota of the same HP IMO opinion. Do they do the job, yes. It all comes down to how much you want to spend and that includes any brand as they can all be got in different series and options so it is hard to compare apples to apples. I just priced a fully optioned JD 5105M ve a fully optioned Kubota M5-111 and the Kubota came in at 22K cheaper! Kinda of a no brainer although I really wanted to like the JD better the Kubota, price aside just wins out and more things that matter to me. No way a grown man can fit in the instructor seat on the JD although the seat is cushioned. The cab is larger and nicer on the Kubota too. I could actually get a Kubota M6-131 fully optioned for only 7K more than the JD-5105M and the M6 is lightyears above the 5M JD, just too large of a tractor for my needs.
I would choose a M series Kubota over the Deere for sure. Just couldn’t pass up the deal on the 5045E and it’s the size tractor I was needing. If TH-cam would pickup eventually I might try trading my Kubota for a cab 7060 or M4. But can’t afford to right now. Thanks
@@khtractors I think you should look at the M series closer if you think they are better than a Kubota. I thought they were too until I got deep into both hands on. For same price I would chose Kubota. Problem is the Kubota is FAR cheaper price so that makes the decision much easier.
I grew up just up the road from you in Tazewell county down in the Wards Cove area. There wasn't such a thing back then as a 4WD farm tractor. If there was I never saw or run one and I saw a bunch of em. I am a Massey Ferguson man but I think your John Deere 2WD did a fine job. A lot of it is the know how of the operator.
Yes almost all 2 wheel drives here until the last few years. I’m an old school Massey man myself, just not so sure on this newer stuff. Thanks for watching
@@khtractors I have a newer GC1725M sub compact and it does an excellent job and I have an old 150 from the 60's it a good old tractor. My brother has an old 1529 and the should pay him to do commercials with some of the things I have seen him do with that little tractor.
Those 3029 John Deere engines are good engines. Two wheels drives have their place, I like them in the hay fields, especially raking and tedding. I spread fertilize on my hay ground with my 2WD 5400 Deere, and it did good. I’ve got a couple of hills that are pretty steep, and it handled like a champ.
Hi Ben I would like to see part of video where you was on road and you said it was a steeper hill and you might have to take it down couple gears.i didn’t know if you still had that part of video or it was so short of hill didn’t bother to keep it on final video
I quit watching Tim's channel. The last couple I watched it seemed like he was deliberately overloading the tractor then complaining it wouldn't do things it wasn't designed for. Keep up the great work with the "useless 2 wheel Drive"! I wonder how people got by with just a Ford N or similar? LOL
I think the JD is doing awesome job for size and being a two wheel drive, we’ve talked about this before weight of of today’s tractors is not enough and you need four wheel drive but I think you have the weight figure out on the JD, and 50 years ago it was unheard of to own a four wheel drive tractor everyone owned a two drive tractor and really never had any problems farming just like just knowing how to operate a tractor just like your other two, two wheel drive tractors you own you can do things most can’t do with a four wheel drive tractor lol things are just different today Ben I really think y’all got a winner with the JD
I love my 4 wheel drive tractor but these other tractors are really what makes the money. We saved $8-10 thousand by going with this 2 wheel drive and it will do anything it was purchased to do, plus some! Thanks for watching

That John Deere is doing a great job. I seen a John Deere at a Brandon dealership in Summerville Ga earlier this week that I liked. It's used but it would do if I can come up with the money.
Great video. You "Farm" - not sure I'd call what TTwT does "farming". Also, a tractor that is geared properly with plenty of weight can do a lot without having tons of HP - especially with an operator who knows what he's doing. I've seen things done on steep hills in western NC and eastern TN with 2wd tractors that I doubt TTwT would touch with 4wd. Don't worry about the talking heads! Tell TTwT to bring one of his hydrostatic lightweight tractors and see if he could even pull that spreader. Nice work!.
Are used to be a good fan of tractor time with Tim but he got so big he think he’s the greatest. That’s one of the things I don’t like about him that’s why I don’t watch his channel much anymore because of that. I think your John Deere is awesome👍
Four wheel drive in the compact and semi compact class of tractors is great and I would argue necessary when you set the thing up with a loader. But as they have so little weight, for pulling things the front wheels have hardly any traction as the weight gets transferred to the rear wheels when the pulling gets tough. You noticed that in the past when pulling heavy logs with the MF ... the front wheels have next to no weight on them when you are really pulling so the drive on that axle becomes near useless. Weight more that horsepower is the limiting factor on small tractors I found. I can get my 35 HP tractor anchored in dry clay , pulling a 7 tine cultivator with all four wheels spinning Or doing some deep ripping. Its not the the lack of power that stops it, As the wheels are spinning, Its the lack of weight / traction. In hay fields a 2 wheel drive has great advantages. It tears the ground up less and if ya know how to use the split brakes, it turns on a dime. Something you have a har time doing with a 4x4. Just my two cents and probably worth less than that. Enjoy the fuel economy of that JD and use it for as many jobs as it can handle.
I thought I heard fertilize in the spring and lime in the fall. Did I hear incorrectly? Was going to do my acre plus and would like to do it right. How much lime are you doing per acre? Good video Ben. Thanks for sharing your journey
You are correct but lime in the spring doesn’t hurt. You’ll just not see the full benefits that year. AG Lime last for several years while pelletized is mostly a yearly treatment. I was trying to hit 3,000 lbs per acre but the moisture in the lime makes the distribution vary some. Certain soil types might take up to a few tons per acre. This cost me $30 a ton vs $300+ for pellet lime. Thanks for watching
Nice Spreader Tractor did great Driver not to shabby either 😂 Did you do a soil test to decide you needed line or you just do it normally? Thanks for sharing Ben
