Unlike you, who went to a photography school, am trying to learn photography online. That's why I think you're doing a great service to beginners not only to understand the craft but also, more importantly, to guide and inspire them on their journey. Your channel stands out from most on TH-cam coz viewers feel your genuine desire to motivate them and fuel their desire, unlike most channels that seem to be driven by self-serving purposes -- commerce, vanity, or whatever. Your episodes speak of your passion for photography, which you want to infect the readers with. Thanks and more power!

I took 40,000 photos last year. I suspected I was taking way more photos than usual because I was doing more street photography and shooting in burst mode. I sometimes had a burst mode on that was too quick for the scene so I have 4 photos of people crossing the road and they were all taken in the same second. each frame was the exact same.
I need to dump at least 2/3 of those images.

My camera has remained in its bag since late 2019, an x-t30 which I bought for myself as a birthday present that year in an attempt to get back into taking photos again. It didn't work obviously, haha.
What with dealing with depression and anxiety, and being disillusioned by the lack of humanity I saw when going through the 'pandemic' I've honestly never thought I'd bother to click the shutter button again.
Last week one of your videos appeared in my youtube feed and I decided to watch it, and have since watched much more more of your content.
Just thought I'd say thanks as you've almost got me to take out the camera again, not quite but almost. It's still sitting there in its bag on top of my wardrobe, but I've started to wonder and hope that the battery isn't completely dead and still works.
Don't know if you'll see this comment, but anyway cheers Alex.

Yes, he has really some great works. I've tried a Leica M10 mono for a few hours for the first time last year. It's an amazing machine, and the way you can pull up the shadows, is phenomenal. So I think it's mostly ooc, and just bringing back the highlights. For me, I love unbunt myself with deep blacks, and the minimalistic look is really superb. I am working on a project which already is turning into something of its own creation.
I enlarged a negative, printed it, waited for it to dry to inspect it.
Today I go back to my subject in the freezing cold but with sunshine and "fix in camera" what i think is needed.

I have an argument for using a tripod. People behave differently. I was squatting down a few days ago, camera pointed up the street. People walked around me, imagining they were keeping out of the shot. Had I used a tripod, and maybe a wireless remote, the crowd would have flowed around me, ignoring me.
Trente Parke did use a tripod for at least one project. He was diagonally opposite Flinders St Station in Melbourne, camera pointed at Young & Jacksons, burning roll after roll of film.

@@ThePhotographicEye A photo of a fire hydrant shot from a low angle (close to the ground) in portrait mode and at f2.8. This past fall I walked around the neighborhood shooting at f8, I thought I would try something different today.

The "Model Release" is a very tricky thing in Street Photography"!!! How can I have such Model Release on the street!! Nowadays you just have to shoot from back side so that no face appears in your photo. This has made Street Photography so difficult. Had it been earlier, I think so many great photographs we could never see at all. Dear Kilbee please discuss this issue.

It's a bit of a moral grey area, but AFAIK if you're in public where there is a reasonable expectation someone could photograph you, it's not illegal.
Can't say it's my cup of tea, but it works for him.

So, many of those pictures have been taken in 16:9 ratio? Really? Come on!
Please continue to show WHOLE pictures with no cropping to fit your format. And when you really "have to" zoom and do the Ken Burns-thing, zoom out and finish with the whole composition. Worked well with so many of your videos.
And, may I add: why encourage people to keep doing "photography" with their "smart" phones?? For me, photography (with a few exceptions) starts, when you put your eye to a viewfinder (our German word "Sucher" is nice: with it you "search" for the right angle) and see only that part of the world that will be in your pic when you click. Is there ANY picture of HCB shooting "from the hip"? No. And for good reason.

Thank you for watching and for all your comments over the past year.
The point of this channel is to encourage people to discover photography, both past and present. To be inspired to pick up anything that takes photographs (and yes, that includes smartphones) and go out to see what they can photograph.
To get people inspired I believe we need to introduce the greater world of photography in a way that isn't stuffy, and overly stuffy. If I were doing indepth analyis of a single image and it's composition for example, then showing the entire image would be 100% correct. But I'm not - I'm giving people a taster of various photographers - and sometimes that means using a full bleed when it helps the content move forward.
Generally I don't ever really have these discussions online because they ultimately serve no purpose, but I felt in this case because you have been commenting for the past year (albeit always in a similar manner to your post here) I would do the courtesy of replying. It's a shame that you don't really care for some of the aesthetic choices I make in presenting the content, but each to their own.
Thank you again for your thoughts

Thanks back for your long answer. Please see my sometime criticism as applauding your generally great concept with the exception of some points I do not like so much. I have learned to always take a closer look on content a n d form. Most viewers never look closer at the form. e.g. music in the background. They applaud everything and you applaud back... no real discussion here. (With the exception of Vivian Maier! Saw that you included about five pictures here - and smiled!)
What made me very sensitive to cropping images is the way old documentary footage is very often mistreated in TV docus: 4:3 becomes 16:9 - thereby losing about one third of the original image. Barbaric. And why? Catering to an imaginary audience who "probably" would not appreciate black bars on the left and right when showing the whole picture.
