Angle of impact and how evenly the pressure is distributed play huge factors; it's a lot easier to crack an egg than it is to squeeze one until it bursts (good luck on the latter; if you're more or less evenly distributing force, that thing isn't breaking)

The bone has a lot more total cross-section than the jack stand at its weakest points and doesn't have moving parts introducing additional stress and failure points. A solid cylinder is one of the strongest shapes for straight compression, can't say I am surprised. A simple sheet of paper rolled into a tube is surprisingly strong too for how floppy the walls are when you poke them sideways.

It’s important to note when doing crush tests such as in this video how the concrete cracks. Typically an X crack means that the concrete is very strong structurally, a cleft crack typically means that there are structural weaknesses and a shear breakage means the concrete was really wet and wasn’t proportioned correctly. The bone in this video could withstand almost a tonne and snapped in an X pattern 10:30 … that’s impressive

7:05 "Who'da guessed that the safety glasses worked?" Well, I'm sure that the watermelon appreciated it 😆. Seriously, there's quite a few people out there who didn't wear safety eyewear and regretted it. It's so easy to JUST PUT THEM ON before you use that bench grinder, press, drill, saw, air hose, anything that can accelerate a particle your way. "It's just for a moment". "Too much trouble". "Safety eyewear is uncomfortable". "I'll just duck if something breaks" (no you won't). No excuse is going to make up for that eye injury.
Read about a guy who had a pair of safety glasses on a shelf 3 meters away... but elected to use that bench grinder barefaced. He's now in a permanent, self-induced nightmare of total blindness from that grinding wheel shattering into his face.
Thank you, Lauri, for showing your safety precautions like the safety glasses and blast screens. It's a good and entertaining way to educate folks on just how much force is applied and released from working tools when something breaks or slips.
