My first season watching F1, 1983, instantly fell in love with this car. Became a Brabham fan, and a Piquet fan. Bought most of the F1 International Magazines from the season, Motorsport Magazines from the season and of course the 1983-1984 Autocourse Annual.
Com este Brabham Nélson Piquet foi bi-campeão do mundo, um carro fantástico, e agora lembrado em Goodwood Road pilotado por Ricardo Patrese e David Brabham. Lindo vídeo. Saudações do Brasil!!
Great video. Patrese was such a nice chap! When you look at how little protection there was in front and sides of the cockpit (3:43) it's amazing they had the courage to race them at 200mph+!!
I was just an 8 year old kid watching Nelson win the 83 WDC in the cockpit of the gorgeous BT52 and I couldn’t help but fall in love with F1 since then…
Guys, this is a BT52B. I think the B makes enough of a difference to be mentioned correctly. Not as much as with the McLaren MP4/5 & 4/5B of 89 & 90, but enough. The livery of the B is (arguably) nicer than the inversely coloured BT52. ...But the nose is missing the beautiful curves over the suspension, which the first iteration had. I guess none of that shape body survive? Anyway....sorry to be pedantic. Beautiful car! So different from everything else. You don't get that variety now. Regulations too stringent At 2:47 you can see the humps in the nose I was referring to. Lovely thing.
@@maus6263 Don't think so. They ran a BT52B at Monza with the smaller wing, but where more downforce required the extra winglets, but that alone didn't change the designation. Where's Gordon Murray when you need him...
When these cars were winning races I was sometimes at BMW HQ in Munich on the Monday after . The enthusiasm and motivation of workers was amazing to experience.
The most beautiful F1 car ever designed by the greatest F1 car designer ever born and that includes the most beautiful road car ever designed! Don't forget one of the most iconic and innovative F1 teams that put the fun in F1. Shame that they folded within a decade though! F1 needs them back along with Lotus too
I loved that car and had a T-shirt with Nelsons signature. Didn‘t miss one race, compared to today when I barely watch one of these boring races with the same outcome every time. 80s were the best in F1, group B rally and C in endurance (with full Mulsanne straight)

Four cylinder runabout - only a 1.5 litre with a dainty little turbo fitted - Always liked the little shadowplate tabs they had to put on the flat bottom for the Mirrors - weirdest bit of rulebook compliance
Gosto muito do Patrese, sempre foi um cara muito gente Boa, so o maluco do Piquet para pendurar as calças dele na ponta do mastro no primeiro dia de trabalho na Brabham
I think generally you want a layout where you want all the weight centralized and lower in an F1 car. Mid engine with sidepods on both sides. But this went a different route. The sidepods and a majority weight at the back of the car for mechanical rear grip. Like a Porsche 911.
To me, the most attractive F1 car ever. And with the ugly behemouths running around today? I doubt that will change any time remotely soon. Thank you for creating/posting this great video. ☮
"World's first pit stop car" - never take Gordon Murray at face value when it comes to claiming an innovation. Fangio at the Nurburgring in 1957 never happened? And all those non-F1 forms or racing...
Guess you're gonna get that call from Murray's lawyer Bob. 😂 The man has quite the history of silencing critics or questioning _his_ achievements, especially at a time when GMA is selling cars. I don't know if you've watched the clip but The late brake show had on an engineer (whose name I can't recall) who worked with Murray who had come with evidence that he was the one behind a few achievements in aerodynamics n suspension setup which was even acknowledged by McLaren but Murray took away the spotlight n even attributions for those. He even showed a copy of letters he'd sent to Murray demanding that he clarify to the media about the truth but what he got in response was a cease n desist n a defamation lawsuit threat. I'm guessing that the individual didn't have the means to fight an entity as large as Gordon Murray n all his connections. Gordon Murray, Herbie Blash and Riccardo Patrese. Living legends indeed.
Riccardo is my motoring hero and the BT52 is certainly one of the most beautiful F1 cars ever. Fantastic video!
In my opinion the Brabham BT52 is one of the most beautiful f1 cars ever made...if not the most beautiful !
The Most Beautiful F1 Car for me is the Black&Gold Lotus Ayrton Senna drove.
Ainda prefiro a McLaren de 88/89 de Senna e Prost mas tb era apaixonado pela Ligier do Lafiti no inicio dos 80'
The 1st jordan and this are up there as the most beautiful

I had all the F1 international magazines too, sold them all at a car boot sale a couple of years ago. i wish i still had them now, lol.
My first full season was '82, caught a few in 81 also.....in Canada we didn't have much for coverage of F1, became a Piquet fan after Gilles died.

Completely agree with Gordon: the cars were different and all had identity those days. Beautiful design And the 4-cyl BMW 👌🏻
I'm opinion will never change, the BT52 is the most aesthetically pleasing F1 car ever designed
Imo the BT50 is stunning as well.
The dart shape is soo cool!
50 years on and looking better and sounding stronger than today's homogenous F1 offerings.

Unfortunately the British woke media cancelled Nelson 😢

Best looking F1 car. Ever.
Wonderful looking F1 cars back then. So much better than the huge F1 cars of today...
Tudo naquela epoca era melhor que os de hoje, inclusive os pilotos
Most beautiful F1 car ever
The Black &Gold Lotus Ayrton Senna drove, thats the Most Beautiful 1 for me.
Nelson Piquet: legend!
The car that made me addicted to F1 at 7 years old❤
The great Bt52b won the title in 83 with Nelson Piquet the best driver ever!
I believe he could be among the five or six best drivers of all time

Wow!!!Murray, Riccardo and Blash!!!🤙👍💪
This is definitely one of the most beautiful F1 cars ever built.
Funny how things come around full circle.. nice fan based humour there from Gordon Murray 😂
Best formula 1 car ever. Loved it.
Perhaps the most beautiful F1, all times😍😍😍
03:43, Exactly Gordon. The cars had their own identity.
Beautiful, crazy, iconic, powerful and wonderful voice, born in 1983.
Thirsty too. The BT52 is Amy Winehouse's Formula 1 transposition
Patrese's name is Riccardo with two "c".

Great looking machine, such an innovative design.

Fantastic and beautiful F-1 ever!
I understand your point, however, the Tyrell P34 was something else.
Ricardo Patrese got to drive Championship winning cars from Gordon Murray AND Adrian Newey! I guess Prost did, too.
and Sian Aidey too in the Parmalat Brabham 1980!
F1 in its prime!
Seen them when they were new at Brands Hatch in 83.

For folks who may not know... 1.5 litre. 1,500 hp.
