Unfortunately for Zeon this was the only time they could have legit won the war and Degwin knows this. However, letting Revil escape and reveal Zeon's weakness. That Zeon won't last long fighting an extended war, with supplies dwindling and the Zeon military recruiting soldiers that are barely if not even in there 20's. An everything Zeon does, from that point is simply a desperation move in order to force the Feds to surrender or broker at the very least an Armistice. In order for Zeon to recover its forces and build up and make more advance MS.

How did you calculate only 20 mil. It’s stated that half of earths population was destroyed from this

@@Rocket_ManEach side had about 40 colony cylinders each capable of holding between 20 to 40 million people. Sides 1,2,4,5 & 6 had about 40 colony cylinders each leading to each side having a population of 800 million to 1.6 billion. Side 3 had a population of about 150 million and the moon had a population of about a billion well. Add those figures to the 2 billion population of the earth and you come to an earth sphere population of about 11 billion as standard in the lore.
