      Words like that mean a lot, Michael. Really, thank you! And I am totally going to do a King Salmon video soon. We already caught one in the Sound on Sunday, but I wasn't filming that day. Crazy catch too, cause we got it on a little bass pole and the reel came off the rod mid fight! So we had one guy holding the reel, and the other cranking it!! Landed and released a beautiful fish. Right now I am working on filming Tiger Muskie pt. 2 for you and editing a Halibut charter video from Westport! Should be out this weekend!

    Nice work! Enjoying your videos. We salmon fish a lot up in Victoria BC. I would say if you can get them, electric downriggers are nice when fishing alone. Fist time I've seen a spinning reel and small bait caster used for trolling but proves you don't need speical gear to get out and be successful. P.s. the only thing that offends me (as a Navy guy) is that you left your fenders hanging off the boat hahaha. Tight lines!

    • @NWFishingSecrets
      @NWFishingSecrets  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Fun video. I'm going to try the hoochies next time I'm out.
    Learned my lesson on taking hooks out of an angry salmon with my fingers. Wild one started bucking when I grabbed the hook and pulled the hook right into my finger. Through the nail past the barb ( river fishing, barbs ok). Hurt like hell. I always use my long nose plyers now.

    Awesome video! Its great to compare my fishing techniques with yours! I was wondering if it mattered what scents you put on your hoochies and whether or not it would be incorrect to put herring sent on a hoochie for example. I've learned that the flashers resemble an adult salmon feeding on a herring ball. But seeing a squid swimming amongst the herring seems to be kind of contradictory. Any tips on what scents are best would be great! I fish area 7 and found not using scents works well.

    • @NWFishingSecrets
      @NWFishingSecrets  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you Oliver! Totally agree, it's so fun to see how others fish. I learn something every time I'm out. I'd never claim to know more than someone else. Just another guy out there learning. In my experience I haven't noticed any difference on scent vs no scent. But I could be totally wrong. I did laugh though at the idea of this squid that stinks of herring swimming around and the salmon being like wtf... I mostly fish unscented, to keep the mess to a minimum. If you ever get that gel in your downrigger clips, you can almost call off your trip. Very hard to keep your lines in. There are better release clip styles out there that won't have that problem though. Let me know what your research reveals if you ever do a side by side comparison! Fish on! 🎣

    Great footage, beautiful areas. This is why I am going to move there as soon as I can. Love it when videos actually talk about how you do things. Don't care, thanks for talking about downriggers! Two questions. 1) I see that you use an aren't using an "uncoated" ball. Do yo see any difference? 2) You're using a spinning reel, don't you have excessive line twist? Lastly, you say 15 min limit, how come is the video 30 minutes long???? Ha ha ha!
    🤣😂😅😆😆😅😂🤣 Sorry, couldn't resist! Thanks tons for the great work

    • @NWFishingSecrets
      @NWFishingSecrets  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Move here as soon as you can! Washington is amazing for fishing, no matter how many people complain about crazy reasons they aren't catching fish.... To answer your questions - 1: I haven't noticed a difference in coated vs uncoated balls. Coating would at least be nice for less lead exposure. 2: Haven't had that much of a problem with line twist, as long as I use quality swivels. Braided line also makes a big difference, as in not getting ANY line twist. 3: Ha! The actual fishing time was indeed about 15 minutes. I've never experienced anything like it 😂 Thank you so much for watching and enjoying the video. That's why I make them!

    How do you figure out where to head out? Internet doesn't seem to give any specifics on locations

    • @NWFishingSecrets
      @NWFishingSecrets  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      And the locations always change anyways 😂 The Salmon are pretty much everywhere, but usually congregate in areas that hold baitfish. This happens at steep underwater drop-offs, points, etc... Try fishing in areas that are 250-100' deep and fish around 100-80' deep. Also look for other boats fishing. Doesn't always mean they're catching anything, but it could indicate a congregation of fish! Hope this helps man!
