That _blows the minds_ of people in the US because to them "latino" means "mestizo", which although common and related, specially in their region, isn't always the case across Latin American. You can be latin and white, black, brown, asian, native american, semitic, whatever. You grow up here, you live or carry our experience, you are it.

One interesting thing about Luffy been brazilian is that it puts a little more sense on that theory that he is blood related to Rocks D. Xebec. Because Xebec was (probably) inspired in a real pirate called Roque Brasiliano, a brazilian pirate.
Gotta say ever since I was a kid, Mugen from Samurai Champloo always felt Latino coded for me. Could be delusional but that’s my opinion. Great video and subbed.

A lot of times when we think about Latin American people, we’re really thinking about the indigenous people of America, but that’s something I don’t think people will ever really clarify 🤷🏽♂️
The overwhelming majority of indigenous people in the Americas live in Mexico and it’s not even close, you could add up all the indigenous populations of all the other countries in the Americas and it would still be lower in total numbers than Mexico’s 30 million indigenous population.
I don't know if i would consider him latino but denji just feels like he would be right at home in latinamerica, like he already knows the struggle, and something about him talking with mexican or southamerican idioms just feels right in the spanish dub, i would argue it feels more right than the sub since in the anime they just stripped away all the energy he had in the manga and the latin spanish dub gave it back

Loved the video. two more character are David Martinez, from cyber punk edge runner who is from this part of the city called Santo Domingo, which might be based of the capital of the Dominican Republic and Luz Noceda from the owl house which is also Dominican
Honestly as a Latino who loves SA2 and the Sonic franchise. This the first time hearing about Shadow and Rouge being latino. Shadow no idea, but I have always seen Rouge as a black coded character. Now I am picturing Rouge as Kali Uchis and it makes sense!
The other day i learned that albiore de cafeo from saint seiya is argentinian, and as an argentinian myself...yea he fits in Also i feel likea lot of jojo characters (more in part 5) could be argentinian or brazilian tbh
2:45 as cool as it is to base a sonic character’s race off of the animals that they’re based on, it kind of doesn’t work when you consider characters like Knuckles. Knuckles would be either Australian or from New Guinea if we’re going off of the animal he’s based on but people don’t really code him such. (Which is totally fine.) Although in some of the comics he could probably be seen as Australian coded but that was during the reign of that one notorious writer. In all honesty I think it would cool to see him coded as an indigenous Australian, since there’s hardly any indigenous Australian representation when it comes to animated media. Of course I’m not an indigenous person so I can’t really speak on their behalf and besides in the end he could end up being a stereotype. (Sorry kind of went off on tangent. For the record I wasn’t trying to be rude.)
@@MysticTech yeah I know. When it comes to comic part I probably should’ve wrote possibly instead of probably and I’m pretty sure that’s what I originally wanted to write. But at the time I couldn’t think of the word and just went with probably, either way I wasn’t trying to claim that he was just that he could potentially be seen as such. And with the Indigenous Australian part I probably should of wrote interesting instead cool. Because an Indigenous Australian coded Knuckles would be interesting. Obviously it’s (most likely) never going to happen but doesn’t make the idea any less interesting. Not only would be fun way to reference a country the real life animal is from but like I said there’s hardly any Indigenous Australian representation in media. (I know I technically said animated media but actually it’s pretty much any kind of media.)

As someone who regularly has conversations with my friends about what the real world race and/or ethnicity of characters are who don't have one in their actual media, I understand not being able to explain it at times. It's just a feeling that others either understand or they don't, it can't necessarily be explained. Shout-out to Ganondorf being racially black and ethnically Egyptian, I really hope someone gets that same vibe from him.

So weird seeing people retroactively make excuses to feign a deeper connection with a fictional character than is being presented by the creators. To each their own but most mfs who talk about coded characters are so tribalistic it hurts. At least you have tame reasoning, even if evaluation of characters you want to be coded to be like you is strange. Its still a semi-fun discussion.
i just do it for fun honestly. If i was wrong and all these characters are just Japanese i wouldn’t mind id still like them the same to me the research section is the most fun for these videos. I got one more and then im done with this topic
@cashchiico I assumed it's just topics for fun. It's actually really interesting seeing all the similarities found between behaviors of those from different cultures and how it connects us with certain characters. Being able to identify with a character who is nothing like you is a pretty cool feat of accomplishment for those who made the characters. It is pretty cool to see a little bit of yourself in a character made on the other side of the world. It's a testament to how well-rounded most anime characters are for people to be able to connect with them on a deeper level such as this. It's an interesting topic for sure.
idk if these people didn't have any love growing up but it's really really weird seeing people claim literal asian characters or aliens as latino or some other ethnic group. Pushing american stereotypes that asians cant be cool without being something else lmfao. Gojo is a lightskin, latino, or black somehow. Goku is apparently latino, denji is apparently latino. Seen people say han from fast furious is only cool because his step dad was black.

Also Starfire didn't feel latina but I'm glad she felt foreign exchange student that was new and adjusting to american culture, she even uses a lot of her alien languange in her daily life like when she calls silkie her bungorf and even her speech and grammar sounds a bit off considering it's not her first language

HHWA. F**k the Ark Yo, Comin straight from above the ground, Young hedgehog got it bad Cause he (darker) Than Brown, and Not the other colour so Gun think they got the Authority to Chaos control a Minority.
as a Latino I've always as an edgy white kid
Do u mean was? Cause if u did then nah, ur just a blanquemiento.💀
But if u meant related as or something along those lines then, aight cool then.🤷
@@averytherockgod9822 Seen him as*
Ohhhhh ok, in that case I feel u🤙💯
I wanna hear from the indigenous/Native/First Nations folks. Rarely represented officially, but there are definitely characters out there that fit the vibe.
for sure! like knuckles who is an indigenous mexican
As a Mexican I always headcanoned of Bardock as Latino, Specifically OG Bardock
bardock and Turles
“Shadow is Mexican”
Well that “I love Latinas, Sonic” meme is just funnier now.
Another bangerr🔥🔥
shi zah i’m tryna get like you
Never knew why but i always thought Fire Princess from Adventure time was so latina coded even in the newest spin off Fionna and Cake her make counter part dj flame was litterally tan skinned like brooooo just confirm it already
Huh, so that why I felt so connected with her
Ain't no way my boy just came out here and said super saiyan 4 Goku, the form where he literally gets ape/monkey features introduced to his design, makes him latino. That's just way too hilarious to be accidental lmao
Damn, ion know if you somehow took what I commented last video about lightskin coded characters characters but yoo thank you dog. Been waiting for this one 🔥🔥
i’m always inspired by comments bro you guys help every video 🤞🏽
@@pesochico You cooked fr, thank you dawg fr 🐐🔥🔥🔥
This is gonna sound crazy, but hear me out! Seto Kaiba is latino. There is something about that man that just screams Argentina or Panama. As a Cuban, I can just feel it 😭
Michiko is literally an Afro Latina in an anime based in Brasil her design is also based on the singer Aaliyah
I say Jin, Mugen was arrogant asf and had a fro Jin was like a chill traditional Chicano
I love that the Espada from bleach are basically Hispanic lmao
Spanish ghosts vs Japanese ghosts vs nazi germany ghosts
0:43 you know brazilians can be white right? Im Brazilian and i seen guys who look like vampires from how white they are, im white and im a Brazilian, its not a race its a nationality
yes i’m aware my boy just like black people can be hispanic
It's funny how many mix have in Brazil
You just spawned brazilians here, boy. Much love
As a Latino myself, good list
Another character I would include here is Broly(specifically the one from Super)
I guess that’s another one of the characters that you really can’t give proof of and you just gotta go by vibes
But yeah, Broly from DBS just *feels* Hispanic to me, as a Hispanic. Kinda like SSJ4 Goku
bro i just recorded part two coming monday and you already know broly is in there
Dude… he’s been living on a planet who’s sun is scorching all the time all his life… so he got a tan. But it’s just skin. Doesn’t mean he’s Latino. He’s a saiyan
@@LilXancheX mimimimimimimimimimi He’s Latino buddy, zip it
Shii I feel like Z Broly fits better
A lot of times when we think about Latin American people, we’re really thinking about the indigenous people of America, but that’s something I don’t think people will ever really clarify 🤷🏽♂️
knuckles is indigenous
The overwhelming majority of indigenous people in the Americas live in Mexico and it’s not even close, you could add up all the indigenous populations of all the other countries in the Americas and it would still be lower in total numbers than Mexico’s 30 million indigenous population.
@@ericktellez7632 okay your right. But everybody in Latin America has indigenous blood, except for Argentina
I don't know if i would consider him latino but denji just feels like he would be right at home in latinamerica, like he already knows the struggle, and something about him talking with mexican or southamerican idioms just feels right in the spanish dub, i would argue it feels more right than the sub since in the anime they just stripped away all the energy he had in the manga and the latin spanish dub gave it back
True
If you ever seen megaloboxing their main character could also be a mix Afro Latino character if you haven’t used him yet also a very good show to watch
My new fav TH-camr fr I’ve been binging all your vids for days now blessed with another banger
thank you bro bro welcome to the fam!
4:42 I mean Paulina from Danny Phantom was probably based off of Liz Allen since Butch himself stated a fair of characters from Danny Phantom were inspired by Spiderman...so probably.
Lowkey need part 2😂
i gotchu gang
Ayyy glad my boy Batista got a shout out. One of my fav wrestlers of all time who is also an honorary Latino 🔥💪
batista is the goat bro
3:15 that cause Bruce Timm has a weird ass fetish for Batman x Batgirl for some reason and won’t stop forcing it in his work
Loved the video. two more character are David Martinez, from cyber punk edge runner who is from this part of the city called Santo Domingo, which might be based of the capital of the Dominican Republic and Luz Noceda from the owl house which is also Dominican
Well David is already canonically latino so he really isn’t latin-coded
As the whitest white boy to ever life, this video is such a W
Honestly as a Latino who loves SA2 and the Sonic franchise. This the first time hearing about Shadow and Rouge being latino.
Shadow no idea, but I have always seen Rouge as a black coded character. Now I am picturing Rouge as Kali Uchis and it makes sense!
Thinking about it now, I wouldn’t say Rouge is TOTALLY black coded. More so like afro latina
The other day i learned that albiore de cafeo from saint seiya is argentinian, and as an argentinian myself...yea he fits in
Also i feel likea lot of jojo characters (more in part 5) could be argentinian or brazilian tbh
For the record I wasn’t trying to be rude.)
knuckles is mayan coded. he is a descendant of the tikal, a tribal group based off of the mayans
that and he’s also based on jamaican Caribbean culture. Knuckles is based latino
Hiei being Latino could be due to being fast like Speedy Gonzales.
Also the most popular One piece short international in the early 2000s was Dream Soccer King! and Luffy was breaking ankles everywhere
As a latino myself I always thought vegeta gave me latino vibes because he always reminded me of my dad lol. but Id argue you that with all of the sayains especially with how beloved the dragon ball franchise is in South and Central America. Also this might be a reach but meta knight from the kirby franchise is 100% latino bro
100% bro all of them but not everyone is ready for that conversation
Meta knight is literally a black ball….
Que Onda vato! You good we laugh at ourselves all day, this is just hype for us, on part two can you add Chad from bleach, yugi from yugioh, ty and cari from digimon, duo from Gundam wing, yes I'm absolutely reaching but my people don't got enough representation 😭😂
Chad from bleach is in part two up now!
I just subscribed to you because of this video.
Also dude how do you miss Meta Knight from Kirby? He has a spanish or latino accent in Kirby right back at ya and even the super smash bros series.
part two
@@pesochico I will be waiting
@@pesochico oh yeah don't forget 90's cartoon Sonic was voiced by Steve Urkel, so that Sonic is definitely black.

The best latin american character that isnt latin american is denji from chainsaw man, he is probably the most relatable shonen protagonist
Idk wtf that has to do, but fyee compliment
Don't forget Sosuke Aizen. The author of Bleach even said lots of his villains' designs are inspired by spanish culture.
can’t forget the goat
Keep cooking fam 🔥
Thank you brodie you too i’m tapped in
1:32 It’s funny you mention this since Ace is apparently Portuguese (and ofc Portugal speaks Portuguese)
exactly bro
As a latino, we claim goku.
factual
(Coming from a Latino) Garfield, Jake the dog, and Michaelangelo from TMNT are all latinos, Even though Michaelangelo is mixed and is lightskin
Goku es 100% latino

Shadow the Hedgehog being Mexican is a crazzyy take. Lol
Fyee vid gng 🙌🏽
thanks gangy 🤞🏽
As someone who regularly has conversations with my friends about what the real world race and/or ethnicity of characters are who don't have one in their actual media, I understand not being able to explain it at times. It's just a feeling that others either understand or they don't, it can't necessarily be explained. Shout-out to Ganondorf being racially black and ethnically Egyptian, I really hope someone gets that same vibe from him.
2:48 you’re pointing at Central America😂
Gojo definitely has Mexican running thru his blood some how. Lowkey I want nightwing to be Mexican. He just fits us too
😂😂😂
😂
Nahh he definitely Argentinian
Nah, Sukuna do look a little Mexican though
Goku just transforms into a Hispanic when he turns SSJ4 😂
the real truth is goku was always Boricua
J-stars victory vs was a great time.
i miss it so much bro
ilu king thanks i been waiting for someone to make a video like this 😭😊
I mean… Shadow DOES love Latinas.
factual
Who doesn’t
the ones that you couldnt identify why u though were latino all had this black n red color scheme, it think it might give the latino vibes. Also, u so chill :)
"Coding" is just Tumblerized stereotyping.
unless there’s actual evidence of them being that nationality in my opinion
I always thought Starfire was Filipina. But Beast Boy is hella Mexican.
Also shout-out to Junpei Iori. He's Japanese but also he's every Latino's cousin Miguel or Ricky from ages 15-25 💀
W Junpei Lori
nahh shadows black his name is LITTERALLY SHADOW
Shadow is for real latino coded. I legit didn't know it was a "coded" thing. I thought he legit just was.
@@xuan3236 lol. How tf is the blue eyed, pale haired, pale skinned Gojo is a lightskin to some people. Maybe they meant he acting like a lightskin or something lol. The Goku and Denji take is atrocious but not as worse. They can feel however they want but it doesn't change the facts that Goku is based off on Sun Wukong and Denji just a blonde japanese.
As a Mexican, i had now idea people unanimously agreed Shadow was Mexican. But i aint mad i'll take it
In my opinion I think that shadow is black but I respect your opinion
5:34 i met that actress and damn she was just as fine as on film. tall too 😅
0:21 Luffy is Brazilian, he isnt hispanic.
he’s latino bro
6:10 thank god you understand that 😂 wish more people did
as a mexican only gringos could care this much about race lmao
“boooo this guys stinks”👎🤣
actually Honduras is part of Central America which is a subregion of North America. Also Starfire didn't feel latina but I'm glad she felt foreign exchange student that was new and adjusting to american culture, she even uses a lot of her alien languange in her daily life like when she calls silkie her bungorf and even her speech and grammar sounds a bit off considering it's not her first language
yeah i noticed my mistake after i posted 😞
Gracias por este video informativo.
Hopefully in part 2 you'll be able to elaborate on the characters that you couldn't explain but felt that they were Latino but good shit this video was lit
part two i got way more explaining because i made quite a few people mad i have a pretty solid list for the sequel
