This walk is through parts of central Sydney’s Chinatown. Chinatown is located at the Southern end of the Sydney Central Business District and is part of the suburb of Haymarket . The first Chinatown was in the Rocks district known as the Chinese Quarter in the 1860s , by the 1920s Sydney’s Chinatown had migrated over to Campbell Street in Haymarket , in the vicinity of the capitol theatre just off George Street. Greater Sydney Has many Chinese Suburbs / Neighbourhoods including an official Chinatown in Burwood and the largest Chinese suburb being Hurstville in southern Sydney but the Haymarket Neighbourhood is the oldest.
This was my second home when I was studying at UTS. I haven't been here for years now, the main roads still recognisable even though most the storefronts have changed. The corner shops 37:18 been there for years with no structural changes at all. Its a good piece of real estate.
@@freestuff6758 yep, it’s a great area , I spend a lot of time in Chinatown myself , yes a lot of the shops have changed in recent years that’s for sure , China town has become more diverse than before as it was mostly Cantonese and Cantonese businesses but there are more different groups of people now and they all bring their own flavour and styles of businesses. And yep that shop on the corner has been there for sooooo long , lovely people and they have a great pet cat that hangs out in the shop and sometimes sunbathes out on the foot path haha. Cheers Stay well 🙂
Hey Mr Eyeball 😄 As a student living in Sydney in the 90's, Chinatown was my go-to for great, affordable food! Thanks for the tour. I enjoyed seeing what it looks like now 👍👍👍
@@wont.stop.travel cheers , yep it’s still good for cheap food , mostly in the remaining food courts - although it’s becoming less so. It’s definitely changing and a lot more Change to come . This was filmed on a Sunday late arvo so not super busy like during lunch times that’s for sure . Cheers , stay well 🙂
