There are cattle grazing allotments on National Forest and Bureau of Land Management lands. Some of them in Southern Oregon are way up in the Cascade Mountains (which I found pretty weird when I first worked in Southern Oregon, being used to more typical grazing activity elsewhere other than on the tops of forested mountains). The gates are intended to keep cows from wandering from one allotment area to another....
