Thank you for the review of this (in my opinion) often underrated ink. I use this ink for years now, and I like the muddy color very much! In the beginning I found it a bit boring, but after a while I realized, what depth this ink has. The fact that one cannot really name the exact color, makes it so interesting to me. As you said, it depends on paper and stroke, but also strongly on light, how the ink is presenting itself. And for calligraphers: It suits perfectly for "old handwriting" style, too. It's a really adult color.
I like this ink because I prefer cool, grayish browns. It's also very well-behaved. I use it in a lot of my Pilot pens, but also in pens from other makers.
I like Iroshizuku ink in general (the ink I'm using today is fuyu-syogun, one of my favorite of all time inks), but this color doesn't do much for me. It's an ink I'd feel good giving as a gift to someone who likes earthy browns more than I do. Not everything I buy is for myself, so I do appreciate the thorough review.
Yama-Guri is a color I thought I would really like but somehow on the page it felt a bit boring. I am considering going for a smaller bottle of it as I have finished my samples.
Thanks Blake. Browns are some of my favourite inks. Iroshizuku is also my favourite ink series. However, for browns, Jacques Herbin Terre d’Ombre is my no. 1 preference at this point.
great review, i am thinking of buying this ink because they dry faster than other inks. I have the grey and the black from that series and was wondering about that brown that is very nice and neutral it looks like.
I like Iroshizuku inks very much. I own four of them. I like many of the Sailor inks I own even more. I’ve always liked brown inks, in general. And I still have the Yama-Guri, though I don’t use it too often. To me, YG is much too dark for a brown in the various pens and different nibs I’ve used it in. The ink in the writing on the page often looks more black-ish than brown to my eyes. Aurora Sepia, Montblanc Toffee Brown, Noodler’s Walnut and J. Herbin Lie de the(albeit leaning dry in flow) are the brown inks I’ve for long liked most.
Hi Sajjad, thanks for the comment! I have a sample of Aurora Sepia that I need to try. I am a fan of MB Toffee Brown and also like Waterman's brown ink. I didn't get on with the Lie de The but it is a nice looking ink.
@@BlakesBroadcast I have tried some other very nice brown inks in the past. But sadly, the names escape me now. Which is the Waterman brown? Absolute Brown? There’s a bottle of a Stipula brown (xxxx Siena?) I bought as an extra along with a Stipula pen. I haven’t opened the bottle yet. I really like Aurora’s Sepia. It’s possibly their best one among the seven new ones. I will buy another bottle of MB Toffee Brown. Have you any experience with Montegrappa’s inks? I have a beautiful blue and the discontinued Bordeaux which I especially love.
This is a very nice chestnut ink, but like you it somehow does not absolutely 'hit the spot'. I prefer the Smoky Quartz by Pelikan, which has a richer dark brown element. That said, my favourite Iroshizuku brown is the Tsukushi, which has regrettably been discontinued. Fortunately, I have a stock of Tsukushi in reserve...
This ink looks so nice in my hobonichi! I love the "old timey" vibe this brown has, like sepia.
Me, too! It's def going to be my next ink purchase.
It does have an "old timey" vibe.

I absolutely love the color. It's going to be my next purchase. Glad I saw this review.
Glad it was help!
It's a unique color. Maybe I will come around to it in time like you did.

It's a great performer like most Iroshizuku inks.
Biggest pro - the gorgeous purpleish sepia! Next on my list. Thanks for a very nice review.
Glad you liked it! I am probably going to get a smaller bottle.

Old Man Winter is very nice, too. But I love the greens and browns.

@@BlakesBroadcast Iroshizuku has the small 15ml bottles that should be ideal for your purposes and preference in this case.
I really want to try Fuyu-Syogun. Intriguing and tempting. My newest find and purchase that I’m liking a lot is Sailor Manyo Fuji.
Interesting video, nice length. I like the split screen.
Glad you liked it!
I’ve never been a real brown ink fan but I am slowly coming around as of late. Thanks for the review!
I've always been a brown ink fan. It's an uncommon ink color for non-fountain pens so I like seeing it.
Thanks Blake. Browns are some of my favourite inks. Iroshizuku is also my favourite ink series. However, for browns, Jacques Herbin Terre d’Ombre is my no. 1 preference at this point.
I will have to try that ink. I like Yama Guri but it's not true brown enough for me.
@@BlakesBroadcast agree. It’s very very dark!
I love Iroshizuku. Love brown ink. This is a sort of bark color. But it is the color of Chestnuts, which are not the same brown.
You are right it is a bark color.

Yes, the color has grown on me and of course the performance is excellent.
Could you look at a grey next? Kiri-same perhaps?
I've got a few more filmed already but I will move Kiri-same up to the top of the list. The Iroshizuku grays are excellent.
awesome!

I find Brown to be a hard Ink colour to work well :) thanls for the video :)
You are welcome. I do like brown inks from time to time.
Thank you! I have a bottle I've not used for ages. I just put it in a pen!
Awesome! I hope you will enjoy it.
This ink is too dark for a brown, shame they got rid of tsukushi. May the triune God bless you with faith in Him.
That was a well-liked ink but I never tried it so I don't miss it.

I will take a look at the Smoky Quartz ink from Pelikan. I never tried Tsukushi but I know people really like that ink.
