      Plus I heard the rumor that many of the cast and crew were "stoned to the bone" nearly all the time. Certainly would explain A LOT!

    I am almost to the end of the 1st season, watching with my kids, them seeing it for the 1st time, age 13 and 15. I pause here and there to explain a few of the references, then rewind, but they do love it. A well done show that never "jumped the shark" as a series.

    I’m a 1958 kid. I grew up on Gilligans island. I loved it. Probably cause I got to watch so little tv. But I don’t remember noticing any of these things. I loved the campy-ness of the show. The weirder the better.

    I agree about Gilligan and his shoe laces. In one episode Gilligan can't tie his laces, but in a later episode Gilligan is seen tying his own shoelaces. Still one of my favorite shows!

    The first rescue movie is a favorite of mine, since it contrasted the innocent early-'60s with the crass, sexualized, pushy late '70s. The fates of the castaways after rescue were interesting to see. When the Howells threw their passel of snooty "friends" out of the dinner party for looking down on the other castaways, both they and the audience realize that the Howells have become family with those people, having experienced so much together, in a place where money meant nothing. That was a very genuine touch.

    I truly thought this video was going to be a series of production outtakes, but to my chagrin, it was more of a documentary (as you've indicated). I mean this with all due respect, but when I think of all the inconsistencies & errors you've pointed out (though they were accurate observations), one could conclude, "Who cares?" At least it's that way for myself. I'm an analytical by nature, but when it comes to enjoying my favorite sitcom of all all time, the inconsistencies, errors, goofs, and cheesiness of production are what makes these reruns more fun to watch. They are elements that adds to the entertainment. I think we shouldn't take them quite so seriously. That being said, I appreciate the fact that you enjoy these timeless nostalgic gems. Thanks for sharing.

    Interesting video and certainly well investigated as far as the goofs, errors, etc of the making of Gilligan's Island. However, I have to say these so called goofs are minor in the big picture. Gilligan's Island was a wonderful, ,fun fantasy show. I think even as kids we knew it was unrealistic that the castaways had so many nice clothes, books, make-up, money, suitcases, etc. I am sure we all asked why would the Howells go on a tour on a tiny, insignificant Minnow? How did Mary Ann make pies without butter and flower? Why did each castaway look so groomed and never managed to get a suntan during those years on the island? How did they manage to preserve their clothes and shoes? Had did the famous radio get reception way out in no wheres land? Bottom line, no one cared as this was all fun and we loved the characters. I think most fans of Gilligan's Island read Sherwood's book on the making of this show. For those who have read it, it is a miracle this show ever got on the air.

    People, this a quaint and entertaining video on TH-cam, not a Discovery Channel documentary. I found it to be plain fun and all I see are comments blasting the production value. The audio wasn't great but I could hear just fine. With all the REAL controversial and decisive crap on the internet this made me feel good. Don't get me wrong; I LOVE a good argument thread on a video when deserved but choose your battles, for cryin' out loud. Good job, David! Thank you.

    Thank you for the Video. It's obvious that you love the Series as much as all of us who grew up watching it. A lot of the errors that you find are continuity gaffs. I don't think the production values were real high on GI because at the time no one would think that we would be watching it 50 years later!
    I'm an old movie buff and the continuity issues are common in Movies made in the 30s and 40s. They just never expected that these shows and movies were going to be more than passing diversions watched by the audience only once or twice.

    The sub chaser appears to be the PC 815 also known as the 'jinxed sub chaser'. They were smaller than a fleet destroyer and much slower (20 knots max vs 35+ for most destroyers) and were used for coastal patrol, not fighting in the Solomon islands.

    In one of the episodes, Captain asks Mrs. Howell how she handled her husband during the crash of 1929. She replied, something like, "oh yes that is when we were just millionaires." If they had been married for twenty years in 1963 that doesn't agree with the time of the Wall street crash.

      That's exactly what I did, and I'm pretty sure that's what many others have done. I tried to watch the first one (this one), but couldn't complete it because of the audio levels. I let him know about it, but he's too stubborn to take any constructive criticism and denies there is anything wrong with it . So I never bothered with any of his other videos.

    • @davidcaldarola5188
      @davidcaldarola5188  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have had several people tell me about the audio level. I have had a number of people say they have no problem with it. I can hear it just fine. So where is the problem. I recently had someone state that they heard the video just fine, even though they wear hearing aids! The problem is on your side - either with your hearing or your equipment. Are you saying you can't hear the audio at all? Or, is it that it is just not as loud as you would like it to be? How loud does the audio need to be to hear me narrating different scenes? I honestly believe that too many people have been listening to music and the like for so long at high volumes that they are bothered by something at a normal level. I also point out that many videos I watch on TH-cam are so loud, I have to set the volume to the smallest point just past mute to hear it comfortably. Many videos have audio levels so high, it would deafen you if you listened to them at full volume. Also remember that this was my first video. No other video I have produced has been criticized for audio level.

    08:34 there actually IS an in-universe explanation for why the entire Minnow flies apart. A few minutes earlier, you hear the Skipper say that he's re-coating the entire boat with Gilligan's pancake-syrup glue.

    • @davidcaldarola5188
      @davidcaldarola5188  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I remember him saying that, but re-coating every board that is also nailed down will not make the boards peel off. If he removed every board, pulled out all of the nails, and then reattached them with the glue only to hold them together, then - yes - it would peel apart when the glue went bad. But even on Gilligan's Island, it is beyond belief to suggest the skipper disassembled the entire boat and then glued it back together. Thanks for the comments.

    I never really noticed, but they also had an extensive wardrobe for a 3 hour tour. Look at different episodes and on each one you'll find the women wearing probably a different outfit each time. Not so much with the guys of course.

    • @defiantone8556
      @defiantone8556 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea, but don't forget all the stuff that would wash up onto the island. I think in one episode, there was a crate full of costumes if I'm not mistaken. What I would like to know is, for as many years as they were on that island, how is it, the Skipper, Gilligan, & the Professor's clothes NEVER wore out? I sure would love to know they're secret cos that would REALLY save on me having to buy new clothes all the time. lol

      Your are not the first to mention that. The narration was recorded on Mixcraft5 - often times with the level going into the red. But once one attaches it to a windows movie maker project, saves it for computer and TH-cam use, and then uploads it to TH-cam, there can be loss of signal. I use to have the same problem graphically when I tried to use both WMM and Corel movie maker. (Corel was used to overlay.) By the time the project was saved, the graphics lost quite a bit of resolution.

    Interesting and nice job, but I hope you can take some constructive criticism... If you're doing more of these, I would suggest some effort on producing better quality audio, mic placement etc... Don't mean to sound hypercritical, but it's absolutely terrible...

    • @davidcaldarola5188
      @davidcaldarola5188  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A handful of people have complained about the volume. I used Mixcraft5 and I was mostly concerned with a signal level that kept driving into the red. This was also my first video. There also seems to be a little trouble after recording, adding it to Windows Movie Maker, saving, and then downloading it to TH-cam - there appears to be some signal loss. But If I watch my video and listen to it over the speakers or with headphones, I can hear it just fine. It's not loud, but I wouldn't call it quiet either. My audio problem on TH-cam is that some people's productions are so loud that even when I set the volume to its most minimal level, it is still a bit loud. I can't help but think that some people, after preferring to hear things loudly all their life, may be suffering from hearing loss and aren't yet aware of it.

    • @BigWallyFilms
      @BigWallyFilms 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sorry. I have all volume turned up max and it is hard to hear. Once you upload it and you hear how low it is, did you ever think of re-doing it properly and re-uploading it?

    • @davidcaldarola5188
      @davidcaldarola5188  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haven't considered it. I would have to re-record a new audio track and then combine it to the old video which would lead to degradation of the video's quality. But as I said before, I can hear it. This reminds me when the PC game Wizardry 8 came out. I chatted on a website that the video was too dark, even after increasing the brilliance. A guy suggested ampping up the gamma, I told him I didn't want to do that because that really stresses the monitor. Years later, when I played the game again, but on a different computer and monitor, the video levels looked fine. Since most people don't have a problem with the sound level, I can't help but suppose some viewers either have hearing or equipment issues that make it worse.

    • @BigWallyFilms
      @BigWallyFilms 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There are several comment about the volume. That should have given you a clue. Plus, using a video editor and SAVING a master copy would have allowed you to redo the finished product with the volume increased.

    • @Hegstuffing
      @Hegstuffing 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      David, you're rationalizing . . Nobody's suffering from anything :), the audio is hideous. People are interested in your content, but if I can't hear the audio while I'm on my stationary bike, cranked up over a pair of very high quality studio speakers... then, it's not my hearing. I put my headphones on last night and then I could hear what you were saying..., but you have to speak into the mic,.. it sounds like you're on the other side of the room... Those who are complaining are the ones that actually took the time to say something... believe me, it's terrible... But thank you again for the content... enjoyed it never the less.

    • @davidcaldarola5188
      @davidcaldarola5188  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      There are many fictional TV shows. The first purpose of the videos is merely to have fun with all of the things most of us never caught before, or discovered - like an Easter egg hunt. The second purpose was to demonstrate - not critically, but as a matter of fact - how many things the production of Gilligan's Island messed up on; considering how other shows of that time did their best to NOT show mistakes to the viewers. Thirdly, my conclusion at the end of the third season states that Gilligan's Island demonstrates sometimes a lot of technical gaffes don't mean anything... if the viewers are in love with the characters. Not a waste of effort at all, it all depends on how one looks at it.

    Wow, what a hater! Yes there are oodles of continuity problems, but Gilligan's Island wasn't created to be geographically correct or scientifically precise. It's easy to pick apart scenes when you've got the complete series on DVD and can pause scenes to note the flaws. It's classic slapstick. It's meant to be enjoyed and shared with generations to come.
    No one knew that in 40 years digital home entertainment was ever going to happen. You're missing the entire point of the show. I clicked on this video hoping to see never before released bloopers from this beloved show that has spanned 40-some years after it's final episode, and I open up the sour rantings of and old spiteful man. What did Sherwood Schwartz or Gilligan's Island ever do to you?!

      +K. Blackeagle I Love Lucy, which is considered a standard, quality sit-com has at least one continuity problem that I know of. People watching the rerun of the episode in which the Ricardos buy a new washer, only to end up fighting with the Merzt over who is going to get to old washer do not realize that in the course of the show, the Mertz had actually bought a brand new washer only a month or so before.

      Thankfully, I always read the comments before I watch the video. I was hoping for never before seen bloopers as well. I know for a fact that Gilligan's Island was created for entertaining. That seemed to be the whole point of the show. It's a comedy. Just enjoy it and stop complaining (directed to the person who made this video, not you).

    • @davidcaldarola5188

      Jessica Reichard - These videos are not meant to complain or criticize the series, they are simply meant for people who like the show to see a number of goofs they may have missed before. The majority of responses are positive because these people know they are for fun. But its amazing how every now and then, someone wants to chime in to be critical or disrespectful. I don't understand why some people seem to have an attack mentality, always looking for a fight.

    Your nit picking is annoying. Had every blooper been fixed, it may not have retained it's comedic value.
    Gilligans Super Glue on the S.S. Minnow: "Why would they show even the good, secure planks popping off?"
    Had you actually paid attention to that whole episode, you would have heard Gilligan say that since the glue worked so well, he used it on the ENTIRE boat. So yes, you explained it well enough when you used this platform to promote your other books and TH-cam videos. None of which I will be purchasing, or even reading.
    Your videos audio quality is terrible. A very basic three slide equalizer costing about $30 would have helped tremendously. Quite possibly, it may also masked the clicking noise being made by your loose dentures. Two words of advice here; Poly-Grip!
    By you attempting to tear apart this classical, American Institution that is beloved by millions, you open yourself up to return scrutiny.
    A side note here. Dump the scripted commentary. It sounds forced and very monotone. It lacks any passion that you claim to have for this show.
    Better luck to your future endeavors.
    John "A real Gilligans Island Fan" Coupland.
    Further constructive criticism available for standard Union fees.

    • @davidcaldarola5188
      @davidcaldarola5188  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For a man whose picture shows gray hairs, I would have expected a more mature reply. First of all, other people made the remark that Skipper said he was spreading the glue all over the boat. But he was just "painting" it on. Unless you are willing to believe that the Skipper and the Professor "removed" every plank and decided to glue them back on. Too absurd an idea even for G.I. Secondly, this isn't nit-picking. Consider it an Esater egg hunt with the fun in finding things one hadn't noticed no matter how long one has watched the reruns. There are people who just watch the videos and enjoy them, and their are those who seem to believe it is their duty in life to criticize. I am sorry you put yourself into the second group.
      As far as, "So yes, you explained it well enough when you used this platform to promote your other books and TH-cam videos. None of which I will be purchasing, or even reading." You might conssider this a personal attack, but it si not. In the introduction of my book, I stated that if a person enjoys me book, then I wrote it for them. This also applies to my TH-cam videos. If a person enjoys them, then I made them for those people. So, you see, it doesn't matter if you don't purchase my book or watch my videos; I didn't make them for you.

    I think that was just part of the magic of the show. You had to suspend reality again and again, it was a bit of a running gag.
    After all, even without paying that close attention... you had to accept that these people had unlimited, or at least completely imperishable clothes.
    Especially the Howells and Ginger, who tended to dress up. One could accept a suitcase or two- but how many spare outfits do you usually bring on a '3 hour tour'?
    Secondly of course, that the professor and Skipper could build practically anything, which they did.... except a seaworthy boat. Even when they literally had all the disassembled pieces of the old one. There were nearby islands which were forgotten, no one cared to ever see them again.
    And the endless list of island guests, none of which ever disclosed the castaways were there- especially considering a couple of them were rather well known figures (millionaires and movie star). Eh well.
