    Great video Tom....I would love to catch as many fish as you do one day. I seem to have lots of blanks. I need to learn more about the tide, wind & season 😔 I have brought a new seat box & bait waiter that i cant wait to use. I use circle hooks mainly as i am always nervous of deep hooked fish. I have watched tons of videos on de- gauging tutirials but its not easy learning from You Tube compared to the real thing especaily when a conger is wrapped around your arm full of slime & tangling itself on my rig in self defence! No one taught me that would happen in the dark too 😮 so I'm glad you taught me about doggies have sand paper skin in advance !
    Geeeez.....so much to learn about sea fishing compared to course fishing, but I am trying 👍

    Cool , this Sea Angling game certainly keeps you on your toes….yes l will try one rig with no beads and black sequins…. And one with Lumi beads… and slow down with lugworm.
    Will try sandeel and mackerel.?
    Really look forward to watching somebody from the England team even though I know I will be never know as much as you.
    My idol used to be Steve Allmark…

  • @rickphillips5098

    All I know is ... what ever hook your using check the point every time you reel in ! And if it's not able to dig in your thumb nail with no pressure! Sharpen it or change the rig ! The best rig with the best bait means nothing if your hooks blunt ! I personally think the strength off the tide should make a difference off which hook you use .. big tides the fish hit the bait and a circle nails the fish ! J hooks for slack tides as the fish are more mouthing the bait.

    Very very Good, fished a club comp last week and was hope for Sizable waiting but unfortunately they were all small….
    I was using luminous beads …. But now I’ve come to the conclusion that they were attracting the smaller fish first…..???
    Any thoughts on catching the bigger ones.
    I’ve taken off the beads for the next Comp.
    Did you use flapper rigs.
    Cheers Matt.

    • @christchurchanglingcentre5428
      @christchurchanglingcentre5428  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use lumi beads quite a lot, but don't think they attract small fish rather than bigger ones. Using larger baits can help pick out larger fish, but whiting are a nuisance at times, even undersized whiting will snaffle a larger bait.

  • @jimcampbell2673

    Good stuff as always Tom. I use Circles a lot these days especially when the hounds arrive, I also crush the barb and have had both rod go at the same time and left one while sorting the other and not yet lost a fish even if the line is slack for quite some time.
    Of course the next question is snell or blood knot for the circle? I always use a snell knot with the line coming out of the front of the eye because if you make a circle with your thumb and forefinger it will almost always hook your thumb when you pull the line through where as a blood knot can flip straight out, although not sure what difference this makes on a fish unless it has no manners and eats with it's mouth open.

      About to ask the same question Jim but you beat me to it.

    • @christchurchanglingcentre5428
      @christchurchanglingcentre5428  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was thinking about barbless whilst I was fishing. As you say a hooked fish on a circle so rarely comes off. I'll have a go snelling next time. I often use the rapala knot too to allow free movement of the circle.

    • @jimcampbell2673
      @jimcampbell2673 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@christchurchanglingcentre5428 Rapala knot is a decent choice for a circles movement. I feel the snell helps incorporate the snood into the curve of the hook allowing it to slide out of the back of a larger mouth and into the scissors of the jaw. If I need to tie up on the beach and I as usual have forgotten my glasses I'll slip the hook on the line and tie an overhand loop knot which allows movement and hasn't failed me...... yet :)

    Are these two hooks equally suited to all species or are some not suited to one or the other, say flat fish like plaice or flounder which mostly I see
    Rigged with j hooks.
    Also is size relevant to this ? Has a size 1 j hook the same ability as a size 1 circle do we use a different ratio? As in lure fishing when a single hook would be a completely different size to a treble???…

    • @christchurchanglingcentre5428
      @christchurchanglingcentre5428  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Martin.
      I'm quite particular with hook patterns and will pick different patterns depending on what bait I'm using and what the target species is. Having said that "bread and butter" fish like dogs and whiting are pretty simple so are good targets when experimenting with different hooks.
      Much like the lure singles I always fish my circle hooks larger than my js.

    • @christchurchanglingcentre5428
      @christchurchanglingcentre5428  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Flatties are certainly one of the worst for getting deep hooked, so circles seem to make sense for them. How do you get on putting worms on them?

    • @christchurchanglingcentre5428

      Certainly worth a try too. I use a lot of wormer and chinu patterns which are similar to a circle but without the defining 90° point.

    why do you hold your rod like a course angler when reeling in, or is there not enough weight for you to need to move your hand up the rod
