  • On August 16, 2019, in Afghanistan, Army Staff Sergeant Ryan Davis was injured in an explosion while his team was conducting a raid. Several life saving surgeries later, Ryan was a triple amputee; he lost his entire right leg at the pelvis, his left leg below the knee, and his right arm above the elbow. He went through extensive rehab at Brook Army Medical Center, and was fit with a prosthetic arm and a below knee prosthesis; they also prepared the tissue on the hemipelvectomy side to best accommodate wearing of a prosthesis, because Ryan was determined to walk again! We were given the opportunity to work with Ryan on his hemipelvectomy side using our unique, silicone lined socket design for hip and hemipelvectomy amputees. Ryan arrived at POA this week, full of hope that he would be able to walk again. He stood and walked with little assistance the first day we fit the check socket. Today he walked up and down the parallel bars by himself. “I’ve been dreaming of this day a long time,” Ryan said after taking his first steps. “I can’t remember the last time I smiled like this.”
