- In this episode I'm stalking redfish on the Texas coast from my kayak with Miss Jennifer Maguire (@southernbellefishingtx) and the Moore family. We're going over techniques and tactics for getting more redfish to the boat and gettin' it done on topwater lures in less than a foot of water.

Texas is my home state and I’ve done many vids from the Galveston area. Upper Texas coast has always been my favorite coast to redfish 👌🏼

Fantastic video, Robert. SLP Country Park is my goto to launch my Solo Skiff especially in the wintertime. Since they dredged it, it's no longer shallow when you launch your boat. Awesome

Just wanted to comment if anyone already did it might be a repeat but @ 18:41 did you have a fish on a stringer? on the bottom right of the screen looks like a red following but it seems like it has a fishing line in its mouth.

@@YakFishField if you ever go back, you might check out Cavasso creek. It connects to saint charles bay. There is a boat launch off of that hwy 35 just north of lamar. Last time i fished it i caught some good sized flounder, quite a few good reds and a couple huge gafftops.. i put in at that boat launch and went towards saint charles bay. Never had much luck the other direction..

Gulp under the cork is a bulletproof strategy. Using an Abu rod and reel and a Rapala Skitterwalk in gold with black back. The app is the ANGLR app and it’s one of the best tools I use on the water. Download it for free here: bit.ly/2Uzht7G

Yeah. I’m sure there’s a good reason for the health of the population. I do prefer Louisiana’s slot though
Never fished Reds looks like a blast from the kayak. I bought a Lightning Strike last year and plan on fishing some KBF events in it this year after the thaw. So does a purchase come with a fishing trip invite with you? lol

You don’t like the popping cork?
I muuucchhhh prefer to sightcast with soft plastics on light spinning gear. That’s the beauty of the kayak, getting to hunt for them in the back marshes in water so skinny you don’t need to cast until you see a fish. I find it way more fun than blindly popping a cork waiting for them to come to you. BUT sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do, and the water was just too deep. The popping cork is ALWAYS effective, it’s just not the most fun way to fish for em to me personally

Robert, What is that on your hat?
Having fished multiple s in different sizes and colors, th-cam.com/users/postUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 this is by far my favorite. One thing to be aware of is the sided willow blade. One side is silver and the other is the green/orange shown. This is not bad, just unconventional. In terms of fishing, I have found the lure works just fine without a tail like a craw or shad. That addition is up to you. Also, the hook part where you attach the swivel snap or tie the line is a problem on baits these days, since it's able to slide up and down. However this lure seems to be tight enough that that doesn't happen often, and you can solve it by putting a thin slice of medical tube over the hook before attaching the line. Like others have said, it's really magic on a good windy day.
You know what the problem with live shrimp is? Keeping um alive and away from the catfish long enough for a red to get um. Plastics all day.
