Whatsup guys! I finished my last exam last night, so I now officially have my Kin degree and will have some more time to put out vids consistently. I've got some really good content coming your way, including the shoulders/forearms/abs videos you've all been waiting for. Thanks again for all your patience. Let me know in the comments below of some other topics you'd like me to cover as well. Anyways, hope you like the vid! Cheers!

Jeremy Ethier thanks for all your work. The science based content is great. Could you do a home leg mass building video. I have dumbbells, barbell.... Not just the same old quad videos. More of adductors, abductors, hamstrings, calves... The areas we tend to neglect. Thank you

Whoa whoa whoa Jeremy. Reread the paper you posted at 2:18. It says eccentric training increased concentric strength to a similar extent (14 vs 18%) but eccentric helped more vastly with eccentric strength (26 vs 9%)
That's not the same thing as what you said. It's well known that eccentrics are great for building the strength to do the concentric motion.

Jeremy : if you do negatives ( ie the coming down motion ) then you will only get better at coming down part
Kevin Chen : acc to paper , if you do negative motion , it helps both the positive and negative motion ( but helps more to the negative )

Jeremy, this is by far the most comprehensive analysis I've found on youtube regarding strengthening pull up ability. You cover every muscle region involved, specify thew appropriate exercise and back it all up with empirical study. No one else has done it so thoroughly. Instead of having to watch 5 videos, you condense it all into one, concise video. This saves me time. Thanks so much. I am newly subscribed!

    magnificent.
tough i would add one advice on top of all of what you said -- hanging. lots and lots of hanging. my hands used to start unwinding on the pull up bar the moment i hang myself on it causing - while i was doing pull ups - a lot of painful tension in my forearm and eventually causing me to fall. this has changed of late however as i started to simply practice hanging on the bar, both the passive one and the active one. now, when i'm fresh my hands seem to be glued to the bar providing a very stable support for my pulling motion and only start to deteriorate as i actually tire myself up. i highly recommend it to anyone.

I would like to share my experience on how im getting my first 4 unbroken pullups 5months ago, to be honest, months before getting to it, I never did pullups with band and rarely did seated lat pulldown exercise, all i did was Dumbbell Shrug, Barbell High Pull , tricep pushdown, Bicep curl and also Y-prone (for mid trap) using smallest plate.

This is one of the beginner exercises I was looking for! I know that pullups/chinups are fantastic back exercises and very functional for mobility, but like many bodyweight exercises - my bodyweight was too much for the exercise at my level.
This video shows several ways to progress toward real pullups. I had thought I would have to join a gym for access to pullup machines for this.
    Thanks again!

well... in crossfit rx version od pull up is exactly the same as shown in this video; kipping is scaled version for those who can't do strict pull-ups

Calisthenics pull ups is the way. Kipping pull ups is crossfit. Didn’t know they did “strict pull ups” though. I wonder if it’s correct pull ups

Looks you have no idea where you are talking about. Its quiet simple. People doing crossfit train strict pull ups as well to increase their reps and get stronger in general. During some WODS (workout of the day) the goal is to do some pullups as quick as possible, where its allowed to kip, to achieve that goal in the fastest way possible. The goal of such a WOD isn't to gain muscle or get stronger in general.

3:40 You perform more like rows barbelrow, but if relaxing in waist and leg/hipconnection, you will bend in leg or hip and so allow more angle as in pullups haning under bar.

Flexor compartment muscles of the forearms are also important to develop for grip strength. For me, coming to the end of pull/back workouts, it's the forearms that usually give out when doing pull ups.

Congratulations Jezz my boy. I was doing sets of 10-12 pull-ups easy 3 months ago and sets of weighted (10kg) for 8-10 reps fairly easy. Recently I’ve really struggled with them and can only seem to get sets of 6 unweighted. I know I’m getting on a bit but I wonder if I’ve just got a bit stale. I do have quite a bit of pain as well in the forearms and shoulders.
Anyway mate that’s enough of me babbling on.
Great video. I think I need to refocus.
    Good luck Jezz

    Top tip:
I spent weeks doing assisted weight pullups and made little progress, despite putting less weight on when I could.
Then I swallowed my pride and just got up there and did one pathetic pullup without assistance. Then I did it again and again until I could do one pretty good pullup. Then I did two at a time, then three. As soon as its possible to just about do another one, go for it. Then I progressed quickly.

Congrats!!

Try doing the scapular pull ups sets first in any of the routines. You will notice you can crank up a few more pull ups.
