    Ep 19: Cycling Jade Mountain National Park in Taiwan!
    Here it is! YuShan! We're SO excited to finally share the experience we had cycling in and up near the Jade Mountain peaks of YuShan National Park in Taiwan. It's a bit longer than the other vids...but there was just too much goodness we had to share! Yes, we skipped AliShan just down the road, instead finding YuShan the perfect place to immerse in the mountains and seek solace from the crowds.
    What an epically beautiful journey it was in the highest mountains of Taiwan. Challenging. Rewarding. A freaking pleasure to be riding among these stunning giants in the clouds.
    Has anyone else ever cycled this route?? What did you think? If not, would you want to now? Or, what's a place that's struck you so intensely you wanted to stay weeks on end?? Let us know in the comments below!
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    ++Wait, what's RaD?: Ryan And Darin (that's us! yes...we both have boy names...is that weird?). Get it? ...r And d...RAD.
    ++The Adventure: riding our bikes around a bunch of different places in this world for a year. Seeing new sights, trying new foods, meeting lots of new people, visiting old friends and generally having a swell ol' time challenging ourselves to EXPLORE MORE(!) from the saddle of a bicycle. Yay!

      43 years since I was last in the saddle, late last year had a Surly disc trucker custom built, with the intention of joining a bike club, getting bike fit, as I am a big guy and maybe going on tour in May this year, but in reality and as usual I jump in with both feet without thinking things through. yes I will join a bike club, its going to take a long time to get bike fit. very much enjoy seeing other bike tourists experiences.

    • @radbikeadventure
      @radbikeadventure  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well done buying the bike! I think that's a great start! Definitely not something to make yourself feel bad about. Join the club and see where it takes you! Maybe you'll get back into it quicker than you think. Also, wouldn't worry too much about getting bike fit. Remember, a tour can be any length you choose (and I think we ALL hurt in the beginning no matter how much training we do or don't do). 10-20km a day can still be an adventure ; )

    Wow! Planning on cycling Taiwan this November - have you guys got a map of the ‘actual’ route that you took? Also, as we will be doing this on our Bromptons (geared / set-up for the mountains & touring) we have decided not to camp on this trip - on this particular route for example were there guest houses / hotels on route?
    Thanks in advance for any advice you can give on the above!

    • @radbikeadventure
      @radbikeadventure  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Joshua! That sounds awesome....Brompton tour! Darin and I were just talking about that. very cool. We do have plans to upload GPX routes to our website available for anyone to use but since we haven't found time to do that yet perhaps I can email you the links for now? (you can dm me on Insta or FB).
      There are TONS of places to stay in Taiwan. Guesthouses, homestays, hostels, hotels. Pocket Earth and Google will definitely be your friend in finding places. Warmshowers and Couchsurfing are also good options. Our route did have us camping but you could definitely swing it so you don't have to.

    Why bike up to the Jade Mountain which is the highest in the Ease Asia? You can easily get killed by the mud slide? It can happen many times in a year.

    • @radbikeadventure
      @radbikeadventure  5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Hi Wayne thanks for the concern. We weren't exactly on the top of the mountain with our bikes. Of course mud slides can happen (though we chose the drier season to lessen this chance), but so can accidents anywhere and at any time. Gotta live and explore! Not going to let fear stop us!

      Adrian Tan hey there! Glad you are enjoying the videos! That was Dongpushan mountain. Trailhead is just on the side of the road with a small sign. Short beautiful hike. All uphill but you get a stunning view. No one else was there!

    • @foldingtales4065
      @foldingtales4065 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@radbikeadventure you guys cycled all the way up to Dongpushan Trailhead from Nantou Village then cycled all the way down to Chiayi after the morning chills in the peak?

    • @radbikeadventure
      @radbikeadventure  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Adrian Tan Oh no not in one day. That would be too much and it’s so pretty in the mountains we camped going up before dongpu at a rest area on the side of the road and then at the top we “wild” camped in a stone lookout area. No one paid us any attention. Just made sure we were up early. Oh and That’s when we climbed up for sunrise. We then rode down the mountain towards Chiayi.

    • @foldingtales4065
      @foldingtales4065 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      rad bike adventure going down to Chiayi, did you pass by Alishan route or is there another route that you took not passing by alishan?

    • @radbikeadventure
      @radbikeadventure  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Adrian Tan you have two options but must go through Alishan. You take the 18 the whole way but be careful there’s lots of tour buses or you can hop off onto the 159 which puts you through hilly rainforest farm land. Very beautiful. If that’s too difficult you can do the 18 to the 130. Takes you off the highway for a little while. We then took the the coffee road south away from chiayi the 175. If you don’t need to i wouldn’t say you need to head to chiayi. I would avoid going into and out of there.
