    Hi Joe - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. Another interesting video on the routine trials and tribulations of a solitary firewood producer. I was I intrigued to see that the diesel engine runs at higher revs than a gas one. Although perhaps 4000 miles away, I will be with you in spirit on Sat as you reach yet another milestone in your new career as the premier log producer in the great state of Ohio.

    Take an IBC tote and 4 pieces of 1/4 plywood on all four sides, now you have an easy way to store and transport the sawdust and scraps to burn in your shop. Bag up the sawdust and bundle up the scraps for easier handling or box up the scraps.
    Food for thought

    Hi Joe! Thanks for another video in the day of the life of a firewood seller. I’m glad you’re showing us how you’re fine tuning your new yard. I’m slowly starting to utilize some ibc totes as well. I’m going to be moving my ugly pieces of seasoned ash and maple. I didn’t sort out the pieces I didn’t want to bundle in case I sold the whole rack. I stack on pallets by the face cord in racks I made. So now I’m left with about a totes worth of fire wood. I’ll get it out of there and refill with new stuff. Congrats on 20k! I’m looking forward to the live stream. I’ve got to work this weekend so I’m hoping to be able to catch some of it. But I wish I could’ve attended! Thanks again Joe! Have a great day 👍🏻!

    Congratulations on discovering IBC Totes. A Fellow fire wood producer who has been to your farm relayed in one of his vlogs almost a year ago (the name I forgot but it was XXXXX Acres, Indiana) that the idea was do everything you could to minimize coming in contact with the wood the least amount of times. Today's shuffle invovled touching the wood the third time when ou threw your product in your small shed.. . .You still have two additional times yet coming when you must transfer the same wood to your grounded rows. If you get a chance drop in on a vlog of Mike with "Outdors with the Morgans" and you will see that withnin a very short time he's got in excess of 36 totes that are (1) totally above ground, (2) logs very well stacked in hs totes and (3) ready at a moments noticed to be placed anywhere, even ready for delivery. It was nice to hear on today's vlog that you may be on you way to simplify your efforts also.
    Hell Joe, what do I know . . . I'm trying to put a CNC router business of sorts together. Please consider my comments to you in admiration. - - - Guy Rivard

    Getting nicely organized. You should use an IBC under the cleaner to catch that stuff. Easy to move them with your tractor. Smarter not harder! Also, the IBC's are 1/3 of a cord. When filled they can weigh up to 1600 lbs. You would never get your truck to take two of them.

    • @JCWren
      @JCWren 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 330 gallon totes filled to the top are 1/3 cord. The 275's are (of course) less, although if you overstack them, you can get close to a 1/3 cord in.

    • @ohiowoodburner

    Someone is making REALLY nice wood = 💵💵💵💵. Regarding delivery in baskets (IBC), could you change to a truck with a Hiab (crane) so that you could deliver in "sacks"? Drive it straight from the Japa into the sacks, dry them and sell them. Then you could easily sell 10", 12", 16", 20" no matter wgat the demand is. That could allso be a version of value added firewood 👍🏼😉😁!

  • @JCWren
    @JCWren 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A couple questions for you. Who makes the blue log pick you're using? And have you ever looked into a litter bucket for your tractor? I have a dirt bucket, litter bucket, and forks for L4701, and the litter bucket stays on there 90% of the time, and the forks the rest. I move log rounds in the litter bucket, and it's great for brush and snow (not that I've used mine for snow here in Georgia...). The dirt bucket just doesn't hold enough rounds or brush to be very useful to me, so it's only used on those rare occasions I move dirt or stone. IBC totes are great. The 330 gallon totes are right at 1/3 cord when you fill them to the top and drop a dozen pieces in between the two stacks. The 275's hold close to a 1/3 when you over-stack them, but that makes them a pain to move around. I'm sure you've seen Adam @ Hometown Acres collection of totes.

    I've acquired over the past year or so a dozen or more IBC...for me they work great to split into off the Axis and then stage for stacking or dumping. With the cost of them now I can't get enough to justify drying wood in them. They are plenty handy though. 😀

    • @nickc7320

      Smaller engines seem to run higher RPMs. My Cummins preferred 1800- 2200. But the smaller generators we were getting in the army a few years back would run at a higher RPMs to avoid wet stacking when under low loads and to get to the power level needed while avoiding extra weight that would be required from adding the extra metal to reinforce the engine to make power at a low rpm.

    Great video Joe, but I think your Axis splitter probably has hurt feelings seeing all those single rounds go through the perfect split. You ought to get you a Dr Pepper, sit by the Axis and talk soothing words to while you sip your drink lol. Have a great 👍 day

    Why dont you just scoop up what you can in your bucket then hand fill what will fit into your bucket and then just drive over to your wood shed and dump it in. or just to the 405. of course you will have to load up all those chucks you have blocking your wood shed. that will save a lot of labor

      Meh... I could but I have my trailer hooked up to the tractor when I'm processing. It becomes a pain to unhitch and hitch up at times. This way I can leave my grapple on the FEL

    I have a source for FREE IBC totes, they had water based traffic paint in them so if you want to use the bladders they will need cleaned, I use them for animal shelters and such, worth the price of cleaning them out because of the purchase price, lol... Only thing about them is they may be too far for you to think they are worth coming to get... Located near Charleston, WV I agree though, these things are very handy for all sorts of uses!

    • @ohiowoodburner
      @ohiowoodburner  2 ปีที่แล้ว
