No we need more bikes like. ANY GOOD BIKE NOT BY SOME CRAPPY BRAND. Buy a Giant, Gt, Diamondback, or Trek if you’re looking for a mtb. If money is an issue then look at used bikes. I got a used 2007 Giant Anthem W for super cheap. It had a fox float rear shock. If it didn’t have a big dent it would be worth 1k with all the upgrades.

If you go on Craigslist, and there is a college town at least somewhat near you're residence, that is where you will find MANY Used Bicycles for sale. At least that's the case in my case. Unfortunately, my current vehicle is not fit to drive more than a couple of miles at a time, and the big-time college bicycle town is around 50 miles away from my current residence.

I got a Onex aluminum frame 29 inch beach cruiser a few years back at walmart for $199. I put a 4 stroke motor kit on it . Other than the odd size handle bars , I had to change because standard break levers and grips and other handle bar components won't fit . But goose neck will accept standard bars. And cheap tubes in tires , I have no complaints .

The XR PRO and HYPER HYDRO are the best mountain bikes sold at Walmart by far because of their potential with the hydro having more potential than most can actually realize in 2019. Grasping the idea of the 199 dollar frame price for anyone that understands what it actually is, would have most bike companies dumbfounded. To top it off there is a actual bike attached to it as well. Project HYDRO turned into what had been predicted from one of the forums AND MORE. SLACKERIZER that bike and put a 200mm rear shock on it and that build is the best the internet has ever seen for its price point. I will predict that the build in its current form would have most mountain bikers asking what more do you want. Simply incredible. Kudos KEV for highlighting what is possible on a budget.

I bought a Huffy Parkside SE Cruiser at Wal-mart 2 years ago for $119. I rode it quite a bit for awhile, now not so much, except back and forth from my job which is less than 2 miles away from Home. Yeah, I also had this Fat-Bike that I bought at Target for around $200 back in May of 2016. It was a single speed Triax Fracture. I had Lots of Fun with it for awhile, but 15 months after I bought it,the chain didn't move the tires anymore. Broken drive-train. Wound up giving it to some former co-worker who likes to fix broken bikes. Obviously has extra time on his hands, something I just don't have these days.

I avoid bikes sold at retail stores like Walmart. I got back into cycling thanks to my partner and White's Bikes of Moreno Valley CA. Their mechanic spent about an hour finding the perfect fit for me. Now I have about a thousand miles on my Haro trail bike. I've been slowly switching out parts and really customizing it. It's an amazing bike that no walmart bike can come anywhere near it's awesomeness. It's the kind of bike that compels you to ride and makes it a dream.

Being a former employee of Walmart, I can agree with you on your list. The Granite Peak was always a great inexpensive option to cycling, especially for those who ride to work. It allowed for purchases of locks, lights, and water bottles to go along with it. I bought a forgotten about XR-Pro in 2015 for $40, and am still looking into upgrading it. The Zander never made it to PA, but customers would come in and buy 2-6 Cranbrooks at a time, and use them as rental bikes for the Jersey Shore Summer Rental Season. This was a well thought out list. Great stuff man. Question, where do i post questions about the XR-Pro upgrade parts, so that you can see them at some point? Thanks for posting.

I have the Schwinn boundary and am looking to upgrade to a sub $500 bike on Craigslist. There are too many types to cover them all but if you could cover the best things to look for, I.e. Shimano Altus, is it good? Just to go through the common parts used on this price range would be great!

Thanks to your videos I bought a Mongoose XR-Pro. I was lucky to have found someone on eBay selling a like new one and he claimed it was used 2 times and once I picked it up it was flawless and I got it for $250 so I will be upgrading to an air fork, rear air shock, I’ll get carbon fiber seat post, carbon stem and handle bars, upgrading the wheels, pedals and converting to a 1x. Thanks for all the inspiration and confidence in doing it myself by watching your videos and others doing the upgrades on TH-cam.

I agree with this top 5 list. Lots of nice bikes. Now if only walmart had a light weight aluminum bike with hyper carbon x components thats a hardtail. That would be my ideal big box bike. Make it 300 dollars and i'm sold as that would add upgrade ability with affordability.

I recently pulled a Carbon X out of the trash bin at my storage unit. Both wheels are bent but I can't beat the price. I watched your project X series and got some good ideas for a build up. I am aiming for a light weight Urban performance commuter / cruiser .

I am getting into your chatter about Walmart bikes, you find the best in them and, for the price, there is a lot to like about their bikes for riders of various ages and interests and abilities. And have you ever done an ebike conversion? That'd be interesting, mounting something like a Dillenger kit onto one of their offerings for commuting. Or for just riding like the wind.

Agreed. Xr Pro should be #2.
I think the others should have been best value - vs best
    Upgrade ability .
But thanks Kev for continuing to make great videos to support some great bikes you can get at Walmart

Just bought a granite peak today. My 1992 Trek fell apart this past summer and my Diamond Back is 35 years old and virtually out of commission.
Did not want to pay inflated prices at this time for any type of bike whether new or used.
Paid 98 for the Granite Peak at Walmart today. If I can get a year or out of it, then great.
I plan to just ride it around the neighborhood for an hour 3 times a week sans any serious trails.

@@SonjaTheDork I bought a cannondale catalyst 4 for 250, It was used by an exchange student to get back and forth to campus (4 blocks). I got a nice giro helmet, abus bike lock, light set, and manuals/receipts with it. The bike was a steal for 250 with all the stuff with it.

Nice video kev. I am constantly checking the walmart app to see if they got that redline back in. I would love to get that bike for my brother. I showed him your video on it n lets just say i know he would love that. I own a gt pantera from dicks that iv done a ton of upgrades on. I dont think i would have considered doing it all like i have if it wasnt for your channel lol. I just got it 2 months ago and only rode it maybe 6 times only cuz of the weather here in western ny. The first thing i did was got new fooker peddles then i got a longer handlebar and shorter stem and grips from bw. Then i got a pnw rainer dropper post and most recently the sr suntour raidon 120mm fork. The next thing im looking to do is get new tires possibly a new wheelset but definitely new rubber for it. Not sure if if i will get the wt tires from maxxis or just get some 2.6s from continental as it is a plus size bike. Anyway keep up the good work. Im always lookin forword to the next video🤘
