I found your 2021 video on your new Ford RV and I was hooked! We are cruisers (on a ship) for years, but since the pandemic we decided to "see the USA in a Chevrolet" (rental car) and tour Arizona for 8 days. Anyway, I started watching RV youtubes on various RV's and after a few, came across yours (Part 1). Love you guys as you were pointing out all the features. You had me laughing as you were explaining your utensil drawer to the hubby. I've already subscribed to your channel and look forward to following you in your adventures. The previous Wonder used to have the rear view camera monitor embedded in the rear view mirror before it got moved to the infotainment system down low like on a Sprinter. I liked it high as it had a more natural feel for head movement when checking your mirrors and the rear view camera monitor does stay on with the Aux1 button.

It has 310hp and 400 ft lbs of torque. I drive it aggressively. It will keep up with traffic and serves you well in the mountains with its dual turbochargers. Unfortunately, the Transit wheelbase is shorter than the Sprinter so they can’t copy over the Plateau TS layout over to the Transit. The Ontour 2.2 comes close, but is missing a few of the features I really like on the TS model. I guess what I really mean is that I wish Ford would make the Transit in the same wheelbase as the Sprinter!

Thanks Mike and Jennifer. You've done another outstanding job adding details in your video about the Ford Transit Chassis. I'm having a more difficult time deciding on a Mercedes Benz versus Ford chassis. Here are my thoughts. First, seems to me that Ford has lost its reputation for perceived quality and features over the past years. Second, why would Amazon select Mercedes over Ford? Here are some small points that I noticed in your video. Keyed ignition? The vehicles I've used during the past ten years have had push button and fobs. Compare the steering wheel on the MB with the Ford. Who has better styling or more features? Compare the driver's display console (not media center display) of both vehicles again for styling a features. Of course, the price of the Mercedes is quite a bit higher than the price of the Ford. I'd be interested in ground clearance differences. I like the all wheel drive of the Ford. What is the difference in carrying capacity of both RVs? I also noted that the Ford Wonder doesn't have an automatic retracting awning. Is that because of weight? Availability of supply? Marketing decision to control a better price point? Other? Maybe I'm too particular about what I like or want in an RV. I'm pretty much sold on LTV, particularly the styling and features they provide in the living quarters. Thanks again for all you've done for the RV community. Stay safe and well!

    • @yzhang8629
      @yzhang8629 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I believe Mercedes is more on the luxury side, and transit is more on the economy/commercial side, and I don’t remember seeing push button start even on the highest spec Transit passenger van.
Probably Amazon has experience in the past sprinter vans, and want to stay with sprinter series? Maybe Mercedes offered a better fleet customer service/rebate/contract than Ford? Maybe Amazon loves the Mercedes diesel more than the Ford diesel/ecoboost?
Wonder is the cheapest line in LTV, maybe that’s the reason that LTV didn’t put a power awning on it. The least capable Wonder RTB still has 200lb tongue weight capability, so there should be enough payload for a power awning on Wonder. Maybe someday in near future LTV will offer power awning as an option.

Amazon is now buying all Transits after only one year buying the Sprinter (local franchise operators can still buy what they want however). The Transit has the benefit of all Ford dealers being familiar with the powertrain (although not all have a large RV lift) vs many MB dealers not servicing the Sprinter. The biggest problem Ford has with the Transit was the driveline. They tried a rubber driveline coupler to reduce NVH, but the V6 engines simply make too much power for that, so they ended up replacing them with standard U-joints.

Love the video. only negitive I have heard was the " Direct injection" ( fuel injection). They have become a maintenance NIGHTMARE!! Ask ANY Audi, VW, BMW etc... Owner like me.. The intake valve gets MASIVE deposit build up before 60k miles and will need to be cleaned or hard starts, POOR fuel economy and power loss WILL happen. The reason is the fuel injector sprays directly into the combustion chamber ( thats why its called direct injection). Before that the fuel injectors would spray fuel in the intake runner and it would go past the intake valve in turn helping keep it cleaner by in easy terms "washing" the intake valve as the fuel gets sprayed in.
Good luck and anyone with direct injection google it. some newer cars like Toyota have 2 injectors. one is Direct injection and the other will spray fuel on the intake valve to help keep it clean,
Ma'am if you really want to be safe hold the steering wheel at the 9 and 3 o clock position.. you were holding it at the 12 o clock position... saftey no no

Johnny Turbo Today, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recommends drivers put their hands at the 9 and 3 o'clock positions. One reason for the change is to potentially keep hands out of the way if the airbag deploys.
In a study, published in the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers Sensors journal, IIT Madras scientists have concluded that during long-distance drives, holding the steering wheel in the 8 o'clock-4 o'clock position causes the least risk of muscle fatigue and other injuries to drivers.

@@bevn362 well both are correct. As a high performance driving/protection instructor (and road and rally race car driver) we lean more to the safety/control hand positions. The reason some say 8 and 4 is because they start at 9 and 3 but as they get lazy the hands move down to the 8 and 4.
Tactically and saftey wise its 9 and 3 all day so we never teach anything else.
With that just like wearing a seatbelt, once you are used to it, doing anything else just doesn't feel right.
9 and 3 is were you get your best safty and control.
      8 and 4 is ok
But as stated before, 12 o clock is a huge no no.

Johnny Turbo the new (2018 and up) Ford 2.7TT and 3.5TT Ecoboost engines in the trucks and SUVs have both direct and port fuel injection like the newer Toyota engines. I hope the Transit chassis does also.

Towing capacity on this rig has a spec of only 2,000 lbs. That is really low and very disappointing. Would need to pull a 6x10 enclosed trailer for motorcycle and bikes so need at least 3,500 lbs capacity. What's the limiting factor on this RV, is it the engine or the Ford chassis itself?

I just watched another video of this gentleman who is showcasing his 2020 LT Unity. He was boasting of the "purring" of the camper. Then I realize "Wow, it is noisy compare to yours!" Never realized how noisy your LT was before!! Until you showed the difference now. I wonder if they would change the the other models to gas engine - I love the Serenity... oh well its a dream anyway LOL

I've always thought the allure of Mercedes was overrated. The van platform ones I have driven were noisier, didn't handle as well, a little short on dash styling, etc. etc. But that's just my opinion.

That’s a bummer. Even though the RV is small enough to drive just about anywhere you wound be hooking and unhooking it up a lot at campgrounds. But there are always +&- with every RV. When we were looking to purchase there were just not enough Dealers in the area for service etc.

No side cameras? The loss in mpg is more than made up by the lower cost of gas. You only lost 16% of mpg. But diesel gas cost alot more than 16% more. Also oil changes are a lot less for gas engines.
