R.I.P. Michael Weiley, you're gonne but will never be forgotten, specially here in Brazil where your music made a huge success and impact with the surf tribe 🙏🇧🇷❤️
With Mike now gone the key signature sound of the band is lost forever. Mike's ability in a live show was always remarkable to see. In the bands best years they were unmatched in energy onstage. But sadly the live music scene was crushed in the 90's as venues decided there was more money in gambling dens. And look at the damage they have done to society.
WOW, you nailed it, brutha!!!!! Bloody "Pokies" instead of home-grown music. I've been whinging in comment sections for years about how the Aussie music scene is dead...... and how Blox should put the Spys back together 'cause the fan base is still out here, just waiting for him to start !!!
Actually, This is the most underrated Surf music band of all times. RIP this amazing guitarist and vocal Mike. I started to like this amazing ausie band since I was a teenager in the 90's and I still listen to them nowadays, when I am 49 years old!
Fkn brilliant guys!! Wish The Golden Mile was in here..but I didn't get off my ass & vote so who's faults that🤔🤔 lol Never get enough Spies!! ✊✊ ✌️❤️ 🇦🇺
June 1992. Friday night in an iron ore-stained paddock outside of Roebourne, 1900km north of Perth WA. Literally the arse end of the world. They came, saw and smashed it. One of the best gigs I've had the privilege to witness.
I was there! I was their lighting operator on that tour and for a few years I experienced the huge changes the band went through. From the old stability of the original Spy's during the Trash The Planet album tour through the Fossil album tour & their Christianity phase with Cliffs replacement, Mark Cuffe (shown singing here), to the We're Back! non album production tour. I remember it was damn hot (as always) from Karratha to Derby! 🥵 Glad you enjoyed your night. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
These blokes are one of the best examples of Aussie "pub music" ever. I am 58 years old and still rock to this. BTW you missed their best track in "Snowblind". Go well and blessings to you MW.
You guys, at the Arts Factory aka Piggery in Byron Bay. I've got your drumstix if you want them back. Lots of love for independent amazeness. You were, and for the folks that are finding you now, inspirational.
Ha! I've worked in the Piggery on roadcrew from Koo de Tah in the 80s to Spys and others. It's been years though so I'm glad to read that at least 7 months ago it still hosted bands. I'm sure Cliff (or Mark?) will let you keep them, since they were either thrown to you from stage, or handed to you personally! 😃 I'm glad you had a great night! 👌🏻💜
Spy's in Canada 🍁 Definitely a overlooked Band from the 80's, let's hope Laneway Music gets them the attention they deserved. SnowBlind is not only one of their best Video's it's one of the Best Music Video's ever. A band in a Studio.... That's all I want to see.
@@LanewaymusicNow 7 months later, I'm sure you're aware Craig is now fronting Reggae Spy's, a new incarnation bringing their reggae influence to the foreground. 🎸🥁 🎤🧡
Brazil loved the Spys. The biggest audience outside Australia, more specifically, the east coast. Spys always loved being booked for Brazil. They appreciated the live from there for over 30 years! 🎸🎤🥁🎉💚💯
Amazing band. @bloxy some brilliant photos of all you lads at the end of the clips. So many great memories. Saw them 5 nights in a row in the early 90’s will never forget it 🤘😎🕵️♂️
commercial radio is pretty much a dribble fest these days! High rotation garbage. Even the so called "classic" stations ultimately have a very small playlist, it just gets repeated all the time. Instead of playing a selection of songs from an artist they seem to cherry pick 2- 3 songs if you are lucky and that is the artists song list. Sometimes its not even that gracious in songs and it will be the same song.
The problem with the commercial radio 📻 stations is that they don't play Australian bands. I know it's not the 80s & 90s anymore but shouldn't Australian stations promote Australian music?? Lately Spy's have reinvented themselves as Reggae Spy's with Craig back with heavy bass lines & his unmistakable voice! This reinvention deserves radio support FFS! Their live show could do with their old fans hearing this is happening and even a reminder of the playlist, albeit with a firmer Reggae flavour, which has always been clearly the influence, to my ears anyway. Btw, you've got one of their roadcrew here from the Trash The Planet albumtour to the Fossil album tour and so many shows before/after & in between!
Neither did I. For a reason I won't go into, I saw them multiple times with Mark playing drums and although I knew he sang this song, I hadn't known they filmed it. Maybe MTV played it once, then drop kicked the recording into the bin.😅 As you do!

your reply reflects my experience, I am actually now starting to delve into their back catalog more and more.
this was my late teenage years I'm so fortunate to be a part of this ty.

Mike Weiley, very sadly missed..
loved the edgy harsh vocal gave the band character and of course all were excellent musos raw sound i miss
Thanks for doing this, the Spies deserve as much exposure as possible. My #1 wasn’t the #1, but it doesn’t matter

#1, top choice!!
Considero uma das melhores bandas de rock surf de todos os tempos. Tenho quatro cds oficiais. Ouço direto. Gratidão por existirem.
Thanks for posting. One of the best live bands EVER. Special mention to All Over the World, a signature song if ever they had one

I don't care about the order. They are all good!
I knew Michael welley in Tramandaí - Brazil. The last Spy.😢
Brazil loved the Spys. The biggest audience outside Australia, more specifically, the east coast.
Spys always loved being booked for Brazil.
They appreciated the live from there for over 30 years!
🎸🎤🥁🎉💚💯
Ashamed I just discovered them a few years back.....they are/were simply brilliant, definitively underated!!!! thx; for the music!!!!
Mate my fav band in OZ

The fact they don’t get airspace on radio is criminal 😢

Perfect song for a teenager
Perfect song for people who know a little about Freedom!
I love it! I didn’t know about that Cuffe era video…
Wish I didn’t
