While reaching out to the con about your app may seem like a good idea, some cons *will* automatically waitlist you if you do so (I know off the top of my head, Nekocon does this). These rules are always stated somewhere, whether it be in the app process or not. So always wait for the day apps come out, *then* inquire if this is true for the con you're applying to
My wife is a pretty well known VO actress in the Anime scene (Funimation/Crunchyroll) and we are trying to get her started with conventions in Dallas, TX. Any more advice would be super helpful.
Ahh that’s super cool! There are a lot of neat cons in Texas, so you guys have a leg up there! I would maybe suggest having her (or her agent) reach out to different events, and once she does a few maybe try to network with the other VAs and see what they do to get booked!
That is something each person will need to determine for themselves! Success doesn't look the same to all of us, and sometimes you won't know until you do it. I recommend assessing your inventory (how much you would earn if you sold every single item), consider table cost, hotel cost, gas and food estimates, and how long it would take to get there. If you don't have enough inventory to sell to cover the expenses AND make a profit, definitely a no-go. If you have enough to make a decent profit, consider the show itself (how big is it, location, previous attendance count, what guests are there to draw a crowd, etc) and if it seems like you'd do well, go for it! (I hope that helps...!)
Honestly, zero at this point! I'm not sure if that's something to expect moreso in the exhibitor hall or not, but I think artist alleys are typically safe from that requirement. It may vary from state to state though!

I would double check with the state you’re trying to do a convention in, but in my experience you only need a sellers permit!
