Mine got crushed about 3 minutes in. Or around the timestamp that I heard "300 pages."
That is like hearing that your next potential date just gained 300 lbs.

Im a year late but starting my own distillery in Brazil. I'm graduated in law here, it is much easier to get those licences (probably because we didnt have a prohibition period and homedistilling is legal). I have a leg up on Crowded Barrel because i can do ecommerce, cutting the distributors. If you come here to the very south of Brazil, please visit Destilaria Drummond :D also on IG as soon as i get past the licences and start planting and building @drummondstills

It was you Jesse, as well as Rex and Daniel, that inspired my friends and I to ask these same questions mentioned in this video. We are currently in research mode on how to open a distillery in our community, and thanks to you guys we haven't given up yet! I found STILL IT through Rex and Daniel and the seeds for this whole project were planted by the three of you. Cheers guys.

I just want you to know how much my husband and I enjoy coming home from work, pouring a drink and watching your videos. We've learned a great deal and have purchased many of the whiskeys you review to drink along with you. We are getting quite the collection and are developing a usable vocabulary too. You're our favorite date night! Thanks for all you do. Keep up the authentic shows. There is nothing else like you out there.

    Hey guys
I wanted to thank you for all that u do. I've have been a Whiskey fan for years. Started off with Crown Royal and after watching a documentary on Whiskey " bourbonocity" found Angels Envy. In the last 5 years have tried various new Whiskey's, Jefferson's Ocean, reserve, four Roses ext. I never had much of a pallate or nose. After watching your utube video's learned so much, and i thank you for that. Now ive tried Scotch. Which before was only Johnny walker red or black. I just recently purchased monkey shoulder and bruichladdish 16 classic laddie. With the help of many of your videos are trying to develop my pallate n nose. I have to tell u i am appreciating Whiskey n scotch alot more. So again thanks you both original " magnificent bastards". Cheers
    Frank your humble servant.

I've been with you two magnificent bastards since the first Daniel solo video. It has been awesome to see the progress and growth in such a short period of time. I'm so glad to see two enterprising whisk(e)y " enthusiasts" succeed in their dreams and aspirations. I am also extremely happy that I have a son who lives in Texas that can help me get my hands on one of your first offerings. I guess I'll be about 63 or 64 years old by then. Now I truly have a reason to live. Lol....

I have a cool idea for you guys when everything is up and running. I live in Canada and would love to at some point make the "Whisk(e)y Pilgrimage" to your distillery. You guys are very busy doing magnificent things so i realize the chances of seeing one of you two is small, and that's not a problem! I am thinking you guys should have some sort of big leather tome called "The Magnificent Book of Bastards" that has to be specifically asked for at the bar, maybe with the fighting/stealing/drinking toast as a password. All the bastards of the tribe who make the Whiskey Pilgrimage can then sign the book with their name and where they are from, before it is then hidden somewhere again. I think it would be a fun little Easter egg for tribe members, and a cool new way for us to connect.

Daniel listening to your motorcycle and not getting enough analogy is funny. Welcome to my life for my wife and I in 2014. We picked up road cycling as a hobby. We started on ~40 year garage sale Huffies. And we decided we were ready to upgrade to new bikes. And got comfort bikes... for endurance road cycling. Think a mountain bike mixed the relaxed position of a cruiser. They are actually awful for long distance. They have you really upright, they are HEAVY.
And 3 months later, these brand new bikes were replaced by used hybrids (think straight bars like a mountain bike but a bit more sporty... lighter and more stretched out like a road bike). And 3 months after that we bought road bikes.
We learned that year that it was cheaper to buy a bit too much for a hobby you are becoming enthusiastic for as long as you are sure you will use it. Had we gotten say $1500 road bikes up front we would've saved money. We both sold our comfort bikes and both still have our hybrids (keep them for when in-laws visit or when the road bikes are in the shop). But we still both lost a few hundred bucks each. I can only imagine something pricier like a motorcycle (or hell, our road bikes... if maybe for example the wife got in to triathlon and wanted a tri bike or if I wanted some more aerodynamic). We both went a few steps higher than we originally thought. And I still ride that road bike. It was about 10,000 miles on it now (and that thing is part cat. It survived a 33mph crash last month and I just got it back last week!) and my wife's only was replaced because her frame got cracked in a fluke thing. These were solidly still "midrange" but definitely far higher end than we thought we'd ever get when we started out. But had we skimped on these, I could totally see wanting a few more bells and whistles.
Heck some days I still wish for things like electronic shifting and carbon wheels. And nowadays disc brakes. But that is something I can look at in about 2-5 more years when I finally replace mine.

I started my distillery on my 80 acre land, in my pole barn, I also have another large building to store my whiskey, it will be 4 years next Summer. My intention was never to sell any products, but only for my personal use, and maybe to give out to friends. At first they wouldn't let me and tried to make me sell products in order to get permits, but there's nothing in the law that says I have to sell anything, only it will be a business that doesn't have any profit, they finally let me have all the permits I need.
When I first wanted to start my distillery, it was only to learn more about distilling, and to learn about whiskey and whiskey making, and blending, I just love and enjoy being creative, and it's always been a hobby and an outlet for creativity. I first had a still to make beard oils and distilling essential oils and blending oils, always been a passion, and now a passion for whiskey making, I have whiskey in oak, cherry wood barrels, sweet birch and sugar maple barrels, and also hickory, I've had whiskey aging in various combinations of these different barrels and excited to see how they turn out, so far I'm loving what these barrels are doing. It also helps I have a friend that owns a lumber yard, and can get me any kind of wood I want.
    And I am from Michigan

Gotta correct you on the bit about distilling at home being illegal in every state - you can totally distill at home for personal use in the state of Missouri. We allow up to 200 gallons a year and it's been that way for a long time. I remember really researching distilling back in 2010 and the laws were the same (or at least no noticeable difference) then as it is today. I know the federal law is a little bit different - but they've really got a lot of other things on their list before they get around to policing state law abiding citizens for a hobby.

I've watched all your guy's videos too many damn times and love em all (it's often what I listen to via bluetooth on the way home after a long graveshift), ordered that sweet whiskey tribe shirt as soon as I saw it and cant wait for your distribution to pick up, despite the fact that I'm close regionally (Albuquerque) it's hard to convince the wife that I need to make a trip that far for a bottle or two of whiskey 😅

And yes, the distilling idea has been in my head (home quantity) for many years.

To get around the per person limit, you can have multiple labels of the same product. They do this in Siesta Key for their rum.

My folks are planning on moving to KY in the next 2 years and want a fair amount of property so they can have some horses. They told me I can move out there and use the barn as a distillery to make craft whiskies if I wanted. I know you don't know the laws for each individual state, but do you think something like that would be easier, harder, or about the same compared to what you're doing. I'm seriously considering it so it's cool to hear what you guys have gone through so far.

I know that distilling as a hobby is illegal in every state. But I found this helpful: www.distillate.org/laws/Kentucky

Wow! Does your country ever suck for distillers! I'm from Slovenia, that's in Europe. You can legally distill up to 150L of 100% alcohol (40 gal) - that's about 370L (100 gal) @ 80 proof - per member of your household per year over here without reporting anything to anyone or paying any kind of tax. And basically every house that is not strictly in the city center has an old family copper pot still.

I could probably grow and sell my own tobacco for less trouble than starting a distillery. Sucks all the passion out of wanting to distill

So this is kinda long but... If you watch Supernatural then u should know that Jensen Ackles (maybe spelled right) just opened a brewery in Austin and I personally would love to see u guys get together and create. My question is that if u were to leave a fair amount in a barrel and then sell your “used” barrel to a brewery for them to age it in, is that legal? Do the barrels need to actually b emptied when givin to someone else’s business for aging?

there are a lot of comments for this video and idk if someone has already asked but, what are your thoughts on/will you be to selling your whiskey (via distributor/retailer) in control states such as Ohio, or will you pretty much keep it in Texas?

    • @danielwhittington826
      @danielwhittington826 6 ปีที่แล้ว

At first, our qty's will probably keep it limited to Texas. But we're open to other options if the demand is there!

Could you potentially do a kick starter campaign to get a lot of initial capital for your distillery and guarantee a bottle for all contributors? That would avoid the investor interest right?
