I've been waiting for this video. I just want to tell u that you are a superhero of a Mom..Edit: actually your whole family is Very admirable. You're all such a great example for society as a whole. You guys do it all, and with such a positive attitude 😊
Awww, thank you so very much for those sweet words! Our motto in this house is, "Do the next right thing." At least, that's what I try to instill in the children!. 😉
I'm in heaven! I finally have a recipe for French bread that works! 40 years and I can finally do it! Thank you Janice and Abigail. Also absolutely ❤ how you taught Abigail, parenting like all people should.
I made this today to go with my family’s spaghetti and meatball dinner tonight. I halved the recipe because my family is much smaller than yours. This is THE BEST French bread recipes I’ve ever tried. I did need to add just a tiny bit more water. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
Oh my gosh. That 🍞. I love baking. I'm going to have to try this once I'm up and around. Can I just say that your little helper, Abigail. She has a smile that lights up the room. You're a good momma. Letting them help prepare the food.
love recipe I myself would one mix the yeast sugar and water in big bowl ( the main bowl you will mix the bread dough ) =reason i hate dishes lol ... and I find feeding my yeast with sugar helps me make better product . let sit till yeast proofs meanwhile mix the flour salt oil etc in another bowl slowly incorporate flour into proofed yeast then after rolling up and sealing dough i would take and dip my finger tip make dough slightly damp and pinch seal it .. just like one would do with homemade pie crust I Was taught this by my granny I am one who ends up having trouble with my pie crust at times tearing so the water trick really helps !
I love making homemade bread . I make bread at Christmas and give it and jam that I canned as Christmas gifts. People love that better than store bought gifts .
As I said before, you make me think so much of my Southern Iowa and Missouri cousins. Of course, that makes me feel like you're a cousin too. Love you and your videos.
Shawn loves history. You and your daughters are fast learners on baking breads. I have French HUGUENOT in my family. A family, not related to me as far as I know at this time has a very important history. They baked their Bible in the homemade bread. It will be interesting for your family to know that. God Bless.
Thank you for doing these videos. I know they're a lot of work and probably a pain in the neck to your family, but they are very helpful to some of us. We appreciate you and your family's hard work!
Hi Ozark family My husband and I are attempting to make this meal of the homemade French bread and the lasagna soup I'm trying to make a half batch of the lasagna soup so I'm hoping it turns out because I know even a half batch will be eating leftovers for quite a while with it and then with the French bread I'm planning on making a hole recipe and then freezing some of it like you said because we'll never be able to eat a whole loaf let alone too in one sitting. We really enjoy watching you and think your kids are very well-mannered and helpful and it's refreshing because they seem to not have the attitude that most kids their age have today so I hope you guys are having a good day and hopefully Sean is feeling better from his kidney stones Love from Monica and Heath
Hi Monica! Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a kind comment. I hope your meal turned out amazing! I bet you did have a decent amount of leftovers if you're just feeding the two of you. Please know that your sweet words about my children were appreciated. You definitely made me smile! :)
Great tip about using a plastic lid for the salt jar! I bet a lot of people wouldn't have thought about the salt corroding the metal lids. The French bread looks wonderful!
Thank you so much for this video! I absolutely love the way you explain and demonstrate so simply and SLOWLY! You make me think for the first time in my life I might actually be able to bake homemade bread! Thank you so much and it looks delicious!
I just made this French bread and it came out perfect. It tastes so good! I ended up taking it out of the oven before the 25 minutes because it was looking done. It's a keeper recipe for sure.
(from Shawn) Since I'm down and can't work outside as normal, I'm responding to comments for Janice. Every oven is different, so glad you kept an eye on it. Everyone should adjust for their own oven. We certainly enjoy the bread and I know Janice is happy to share this with others.
I like, how you explain patièntly and let her do her thing. This way she learns and loves to learn and so she will grow up, a good cook and baker. And we can see the result of your teaching in Sarah. She's good and she Lovestory doing it! Tthat's why she does it mostly, I assume. And because she likes people enjoying her food.❤
Annette, please know that your comment made me smile! I love teaching things to my children and I love cheerful helpers too, so we have a good time working together. :)
I used to make French bread several times a year. I always used an egg white glaze on the tops before baking. It makes the loaves a bit browner with a shiny crust.
Yummy. I love making bread. My husband likes to eat it right out of the oven. I like it cooled. Plus it slices better when it has cooled down. Im not really a bread eater but once in a while I dive in. Lol
Another great example of the products that come from the “Ozark Family Homestead” kitchen. By golly, what a joy it would be to sit at your table with the family and partake of the deliciousness! ♥️♥️
You may just be onto something! You said there is living space above the summer kitchen and I would bet there would be lots of people that would pay to stay for a few days. Lots of people love gardening, working outside and working with animals but just don't have the time to do it full time. Also, I bet there are lots of people that would like to start the homesteading lifestyle and would love to learn the ropes from a family like yours and of course all of this would provide you with not only money but a lot of YT content. It would be like a homesteading "dude ranch"! I know I would pay to come for a week just to experience another side of life that I would never normally experience in my life. Just some food for thought!
Thank you Janice for that tutorial on your French bread. I’m definitely going to try it. We just may have the lazagna soup along with the French bread. It looked really good!
I am trying to make this in Brunei. I had to substitute some of the ingredients. I will let you know how it comes out. I am about to bake it. Thanks for the detailed video. I love your videos and your family. 😊 update: The bread was so delicious. I can’t believe how easy it was. Thanks again.
Now that’s something I think I can make. I do make bread in my instant pot but this maybe my new go to (if I can pull it off). Thank you for these amazing helpful yummy videos!
I mix and knead all of my breads with my hands and without the aid of mixer or bread machine. I love hand kneading as it is so therapeutic to me. I make regular bread, Italian bread and sourdough but I have never made French. Some days, I literally mix the dry and wet ingredients with my bare hands and other days I use a wooden spoon.
Oh my goodness..you broke this down so well that I think I will try to make French bread myself!!! I have never made any bread ever but I’m going to try this! Thank you for being a wonderful teacher!! Also I love your kids..they are awesome too!
You can absolutely do this, Shelli!!! I like to work alongside others, so you can turn on the video while you're making your bread and we can do it together! 😉
Thanks! I know most people have a lovely window over their kitchen sink, but mine doesn't. It felt wrong just looking at a blank wall while doing dishes, so this was the best solution I could come up with! :)
It's extremely inspiring.... Mine is at an angle window to the left cupboards above dish washer on the right the catty corner sink with big voided space behind it is bugging me a lot I love the straight look... We deal with what we have ...
I just joined your channel... And one of the first videos I see is you making bread♥️I am so thankful for this simple recipe. I've been making homemade sourdough bread and sourdough baked goods.... But now.. We are just craving good white yeast bread. Thx so much! I can't wait to try this❤ I homeschooled all of our sons... And taught them how to cook.... it is so precious seeing you with your little daughter as she's learning to follow in your footsteps and to be a good cook. As well as, seeing your older daughter making meals for the family😊
Thank you so very much for joining us and for taking the time to leave a kind comment! Abigail is a joy to work with, so it's always a fun time when she's helping. I hope you and your family enjoy this bread immensely! :) Be sure to check back in and let me know how it goes!

Awww, thanks Leann! We do enjoy our time together and I'm happy to have these times recorded so I can go back and watch them in the future when my children are all grown up. :)
I love your videos and you remind me of my grandmother she was a queen in her kitchen and they grew everything to eat ❤️ we live in California 🌴 and once it starts HEATING UP OUTSIDE we don’t cook in the house we have the central on and cooking heats 🔥 up the house so we cook outside in our outdoor kitchen
Anna, I'm flattered to be a reminder of your grandmother! Once it's finished, I'm hopeful that our summer kitchen will be used similar to your family's outdoor kitchen. :)

Idk about anyone else but their videos bring me so much comfort & peace. 🌻.

For golden brown finish to bread use an egg wash.
Made this for a potluck and it was a hit! Both loaves were gone by the end :)

I might be able to do that one, Lynne! 😃

Oh, that I could go back to living in the country.
Simple living.
Hard work, but worth it in the long run.
When I was a country girl, I had no weight problem, and no health problems.
I was always active, busy, energetic, healthy, strong, adventurous, lots of going on in my life then.
This city ruins people's lives.
Just about everybody that has moved here from other states, ends up getting sick or developing health problems living here!
AND gaining weight!
And also they develop mental and emotional issues living here in this city.
Thank you so much. I love your baking videos! You are such a natural.
2 beautiful loaves of bread! I watched Sarah's lasagna soup video as well!! Great job!! What a feast!! Thanks for sharing guys!! Hugs and blessings!!
Great
Can't wait to try this! ❤ love from Maine
Hi Janice, you may already know this but just in case………when rolling dough it does fight against you and retract. However, if you roll it and then let it rest for 5 or 10 minutes you will be able to roll it some more. I love French bread and I like the way you mixed your dough. Saves hands from getting sticky. xx
Thank you so much for the tip, Lyndsey! I don't recall ever hearing that before! :)
You two make a gr3eat team. keep it goin.
Looks so yummy!
Looks easy , going to try this one . Thank you for sharing
Great video, all looks so yummy!
Thanks!
Thank you, thank you so very much, Kristen!!!! Please know that our whole family appreciates the support you give us! :)
