Another excellent tutorial on negative painting. Sharing the use of stencils and masks was especially helpful (and comforting) for those of us who aren’t confident in their drawing ability. Thank you for sharing your passion and your talent. By doing this you are giving those of us who are learning the permission to play in a safe space, and those of us who have discovered painting during these ongoing difficult periods in our history a focus - something to take us away from the noise in the world - to be present, take a deep breath and release the tension. Your videos are truly a gift!
Thank you so much for your kind words. As difficult as life has been watercolor painting brings me peace and like you said it 'quiets all the noise'. All the struggling I go through to create these videos is worth it when someone like you tells me how helpful they are. May I have your permission to use your comment to share the value you found in my videos with other subscribers. Thank you again. Happy painting! Lorraine
@@lorrainerimmelinwatercolor Absolutely you have my permission to use my comment! And know that “your struggle” as you referred to it, is having a huge impact on people far and wide. Again, I am so grateful that you have chosen to share your talent with me (and us!)
Please do give a try and let me know how it turned out. Use any animal shape that interests you and make a cutout of it. This way you can use it over & over again. Have fun!
Well, this is very timely! I had begun to paint some hibiscus flowers, and was struggling a little bit on how to do the background with negative painting. This is going to help me make it beautiful!
I so love what you’re doing. It’s so interesting and inspirational to me. It’s so wonderful and you are so awesome to pass It on to others. I hope you’re doing great and all your plans are successful you’re awesome 👏🏻 👏🏻👏🏻❤️🙏
I love this tutorial Lorraine. Stunning colours. I love how they mix together. I am new to water colours and I have learned so much from watching your tutorials. I want to ask a dumb question. Can you get the same water colour effect with watered down acrylics, also can you do a water colour piece on a stretched canvas? I have only painted with acrylics but I want to move on and try water colour art. 🎨
Hi Lyn I haven't tried watering down acrylics because I don't use that medium but I have seen an artist paint that way and his work was very good, so give it a try! Please let me know how it truned out. I have painted on canvas but I prepped the canvas by using a white absorbent ground first, completely covering the canvas then letting it dry. It hwlps make the watercolor adhere to the canvas. The challenge is you must have a very light touch when applying each layer of watercolor because it can easily be lifted off with each brush stroke. There are several YT videos you can watch to see WC on canvas techniques. Enjoy the process, Lorraine
This was so fun to watch that I'm looking online for animal stencils. I found plenty of animal stencils, but none like these with the positive and the negative. Can you tell me the name of the craft store where you bought them?
I have totally fallen in love with your lessons. They make me smile, as I imagine trying to learn this negative painting technique. THANKS!!!
You are so welcome :)

Hi Kathy, I bought them at Michael's here in NY. I'm so glad you are enjoying my videos. Lorraine
