- The @QIDITech X-Plus 3 is really good at printing with PAHT-CF, PA-CF, HIPS and other engineering plastics. Definitely not a PLA machine!
Also toroidal propellers are really fun to put on $45 dollar Amazon drones.

I'm broke, let me pull out a $5k 3d printer
I own the same Printer, it's awesome and costs ≈750$
Lol 😂😂
Don’t get free printer
I feel like every time someone complains about the price of 3D printers, they've never even seen one in their life.
You realize you can get a 3D printer for a few hundred bucks, right? The filament is cheap as hell (Even the most expensive filaments aren't that bad), And after the initial investment there's basically zero upkeep costs.
@@deuslapis5247I wouldn’t say all that, stuff like PEEK and PEKK cost an arm and a leg still.
"I'm broke" *pulls out thousand dollar 3d printer*
He said he got it sent to him for free. Wow I swear people just want to bitch about anything 😅

Broke people dont even have a place to sleep.
This manchild is the definition of pampered.
he’s broke, not poor
It looks like you made it quieter but at the same time it looks like it's flying awkwardly.
I suspect it’s due to manufacturing imperfections. AFAIK, 3d printing uses filament and may leave small inaccuracies in the propellers, which have the additive effect of losing some aerodynamics.
Or maybe because it flexes harder than an hp hinge
@@Wilkins325 no its just aerodynamics he got to adjust some stuff on the handling
Probably the printed props are unbalanced, but also many things were changed, but the PID settings on the gyro of the flight controller remained the same and are likely off
PID settings are bad
Normal: Drone noises
Silent: Mosquito and fly noise
😂😂😂😂 still noisy
and its annoying as well@@vincencohan3626
Now nobody will suspect my claymore "mosquito"
blade noise is gone all you hear now is the shitty motors buzzing. put these on a brushless and it will be much quieter
Drone with orange thing sounds broke
in order to get the most out of them you should also sand them or use some other method to get a good surface finish. it's essential for propeller efficiency.
A solvent vapor treatment could help
Acetone works well with ABS plastic but not sure for what he's using.
@@tibbs3112yep, just don't overdo it xd.
I'm speaking from experience
And balance them
@@tibbs3112he said they're polystyrene in the vid but I don't know how any of this works lol. I was just coming to the comments to see if anybody else thought maybe they needed to be smoother
Makes sense
Balancing the props should make the sound a lot smoother, less fluttery. Already sounds a lot quieter, and i think balancing is all it really needs. Really cool concept
He never even used them on the drone he bought from Amazon though LMAO
Wow! That difference was amazing! Sounds like maybe just some lubricant and it would be even quieter!!
The noise is from the propeller breaking the air
You have no idea about what you're talking about, do you?
No need for lubricant because the motor's noise is not the biggest thing.
The noise is cause the props are not balanced
@@ToastyProductions. ohh, I’m not too knowledgeable in this stuff but that makes sense
Hey it's a step in the direction of a cheap and silent drone, pretty damn cool I'd say
silent drones. hmmmmm..... a privacy nightmare nonetheless 😨
Wait till he learns about phones and social media
@@relaxedandmotivated7817fly high enough and any drone is silent to someone on the ground
@@MrMats0n You can still hear the sound even from half a kilometer away, because it's a high frequency, which our ears are incredibly sensitive to
Still makes noise
The blades work well! But that flitter in the sound makes me think there might be some small imperfections in the print, or it might be a result of lacking stability or a combination.
Or it could be neither, I don't know much about drones
The drone didn't have direct drive motors so I had to 3d print gear housings to make it work.. That's where the flittering is coming from.. Would probably be even quieter if it was direct drive
It’s 3d printing a drone frame that’s the issue. Especially hobbyists drones. Creates a lot of gyro noise
I was going to say sounds like something between the motors and frame
@@blake3dcakeor make it belt driven that would make it even quieter
In the video it seems that the arms of the frame are flexing, so that might be a good indicator
shoutout to people calling out the price of the printer that didn’t hear him say he got sent it
Thank you for being one of the first to actually use and show the shapes in use! Awesome work!
Request try out the different drone propellers in different wind speeds and see which is more resistant.
Likely the silent propeller will have greater wind resistance & will use more power to travel & stay afloat
Shorter distance range
“but im broke”
takes out the 3d printer
And he says it was given to him
That's why he is broke
3D printers are not expensive.
@@harrisonmarcum2311this one is
Uhhh, they’re like 150 bucks for something extremely decent
Toroidal blades must be incredibly accurate and balanced beyond the 3d printers capabilities to be what they are truly meant to be
I think we need more tests with these. How about increasing the amount of blades per propeller? Its a big field for experiments.
MIT or some university already did, TH-camrs just make cheap copies that are kind of not at their level.
sawblade
The propeller style is used to reduce vibration, drag and to increase thrust and in return they are much more quiet.
It's the bad things like vibration and prop drag that create the most noise. Checks out
107 upvotes on an incorrect answer. its crazy. the trick here is to spread out the sound frequency by adding surface area. this suboptimal print had more drag, more vibration, and less thrust than the originals installed on his drone.( this is why he did weight reduction). even with the imperfections, it was STILL quieter according to human hearing.
now how many likes would i get for the real information?
@@willcal2738don't be sad, here's my like 👍 (I completely igree with your answer btw)
In reality, you believed a bunch of videos from aggregate sites like yahoo/MSN/etc that believed a con artist out of MIT whose original video on these, didn’t even include before & after audio. The fact is that what you’ve been told wasn’t vetted because “journalists” don’t know how to do their jobs anymore & take everything at face value. These don’t do what you claim & those claims generally apply to water & not air, since these were actually designed to reduce drag on boat props to help stop them from getting caught in organic material. If they did half of what’s claimed, no drone manufacturer would be putting the standard props on their machines
Obviously not here, the drone was vibrating so much
I tried them on a powerful 5 inch racing drone and I mean a thrust to weight ratio 13:1. I promise those props are way louder in certain areas of throttle range.
Quieter than stock blades though no?
If they were 3d printed, there is a good chance they aren't gonna be as quit. Currently, 3d printers are really bad for making props of any sort due to the core limitations of how they work.
@@gearhead743 Yep 3D printed just isn’t like injection moulded polycarbonate. I think I gave the wrong impression since I believe the toroidal props I tried were also polycarbonate.
@@CosmicCustodianyea but the sound it makes is disgusting and personally I love the noise of a good racing drone
Working on this for my engineering senior capstone project, using a 3 bladed modified design using up less material
If I had time and money I would be doing the same thing!!! Just having fun and building stuff like that!!! Keep it up!!! The word of the day is FUN…. Let’s have more of it!!!
I would be broke if I had that setup too. 😂
Unfortunately I'm broke, so let me go get my $700 3d printer, about $30 worth of filament, and more hours of my life I'll never get back to cut the volume of a $40 amazon drone down and it doesn't fly steady any more
the company sent him the printer
did you miss that in the video? 🤔
That's more like 100$+ in spools
Dude he was sent the 3d printer,he said so.
I own that Printer as well. It's a hidden gem and easily as good as the P1S from Bambu, with around 40% larger build area and even heated chamber!
and then being sponsored and pay nothing and get free stuff
is what you missed
This is so stable with your printed propeller 👍
I’m in love with the garage!
If im not mistaken the sound comes from the ends of the propellor blades so having blades enclosed with a ring also reduces sound
I would argue the second drone would be the exact same in terms of decibels if it was subjected to the same weight
Sounds awesome 😎👍
this is exact time I have my X MAX 3 printer
Those orange propellers made the drone very wobbly, look at it closely
True. Perhaps the props weren't balanced properly. The RPMs required seem lower for the Toroid props, so perhaps although wobbly, they're a more efficient design.
Yes it sounds imbalanced.
Too much flex in the crappy 3d printed frame. That's why carbon fibre frames are so popular.
I think also the weight reduction he did messed up with the drone dynamics. The controller probably doesn't account for the changes in weight and the changes to thrust due to the new propellers
"I'm borke"
**Pulls out gigantic 3D printer**
He literally said the company that makes it sent it to him for free. Use your ears.

DJI is looking into it, the problem comes down to replacement, and also they take up more space, and we all know DJI is all about their drones being as foldable as they can be
We solved it in a different way. Our team threw out all of our DJI drones. Anything from a Chinese developer is now blacklisted and rightfully so. But it wasn't because of this issue and it wasn't just because the Dept. of Commerce has them on the infamous entity list.
If you value your future, you'd do the same.

No, DJI is not the best in the world. They're one of three of the best in the world. That is likely to change in the future with the current and planned restrictions in place.

As part of my engineering capstone project, my team is currently testing different versions of this propeller changing the parameters such as diameter, pitch, and number of blades. My team will cast mold these propellers testing 2 different materials: polyurethane and epoxy resin. We are also using Softwares such as ANSYS to acquire the thrust levels at different rpms as well as acoustic data using ANSYS Sound. Hopefully by the end May of 2024, we will have a fully operational that is less noisy, has high thrust levels and efficient. We are still in the experimental stage, but we plan to measure the thrust at a given rpm, power draw, efficiency, noise levels, and we will test them at different operating conditions.

I love my X-Plus 3 printer.
Maybe try sanding and smoothing the propellers to help it fly smoother
It would be quieter if you balanced them and sanded them smooth
The flexible frame probably has more effect on the sound dampening than the propellers do. You should try it without changing the frame.
Personally I think the regular propeller werent necessarily quieter but the sound was less invasive because it wasn't choppy like with the toroidal
Nice

I'd like you to explain how a specific propeller design can tell how much the drone they're installed on costs.
