I was just there at BGC couple of weeks ago. Regarding exchanging dollars. I never exchange dollars because it's not safe or necessary to carry dollars. You can just use the ATM, I use BPI or BDO. Your US bank gives you a good exchange rate , same or more than google. I have Navy Federal, and they even refund the atm fee, which is around $1 or $2. Enjoy you stay

If you are using Grab. Just get the 6-seater one instead if the 4-seater. There’s just a dollar difference and cars are bigger and much nicer. 👍🏻

Try riding MRT and LRT ,but avoid the rush hours. I really enjoyed it. It is faster than ridding Grab and cheaper.

I just came back from PH. I would say generally most places are safe as long as you don’t boast your money.
Makati and BGC if you want to stay close to the airport. Manhattan Plaza near Araneta City is good if you want to stay close to Quezon City and don’t want to spend too much on Airbnb’s and still feel safe. Eastwood City was the BGC before BGC was built and is enjoyable as well.

My family and I lived in Phillipines way back in the late 1980s. It looks like things have changed so much now. It appears the place has been westernized. 😅 I need to go back and visit soon.

Ehh still the same. They made some places nicer, but the mentality of the people are still the same, good or bad.
@@anastacioiii4047 Bluboy30 is talking about how the places are now develop and somewhat modern compared to the 80s not the mentality. Once the goverment allows foreign ownership of the land I swear there will be a lot of foreign people who move here and start businesses I can imagine Philippines will be like Hawaii.

I usually have leftover pesos from previous visits, enough to exit the airport and get to my first hotel in Metro Manila. I do use Grab but have also used the Airport Taxi Transfer service because the lines are often a lot shorter and quicker than Grab during peak airport departure times. The cost from the airport for me has always been less than 300 pesos where ever they've driven me (Chinatown, BGC, Taguig, Makati, Manila Bay, MOA, Greenhill) which is around $5.27/USD at the time I last traveled in October 2023 so I didn't care if it was 'overpriced', that's cheap!
I pig out in the Philippines. Street food, mall food and everything in between. Be sure to hit all the Michelin Star places. I found Hawker Chan a lot tastier than Din Tai Fung. There's also Putien and Kam's Roast. Also, don't miss the giant siopao from Wan Kee Bakery located in Binondo Chinatown for 230 pesos. Masarap!
I totally love Market! Market! it's a good mix of normal mall stores along with street style and price places to stretch your dollar. I like the outside vendors and different PI location food outside too.
I don't know if i just missed it but please share the names of the places you stay at. I'm always on the look out for new and convenient places.

I still remember visiting the Philippines when I was 5, and these men from the village had me hold on to a rope. Tied at the end of the rope was a pig. Turns out the men were about to prepare fresh lechon! Needless to say my mom ran out and grabbed me away so I didn’t have to witness or be an accomplice to that. 😂

"Hot as Balls". And this coming from someone living in Vegas. I always say the same thing coming out of the Manila airport but always know that I will be return home to milder weather. I do not know how the residence of Manila can take that heat year round but guess your body becomes accustomed to it. It looks like you may be staying near Forbes Park.

When on a budget i suggest kayak to find cheaper flights or a philippines travel agency. Hotels are tricky to find deals. If u want a cheaper city… you’d have to go away from Manila and Cebu

$300 for a month ain’t that bad just gotta spend it wisely sometimes it’s better to be bougie and frugal, and not blowing it all in one go but usually when I go it’s mostly supporting the mom n pops food stalls but when it comes to shopping I go greenhills or divisoria area now that’s a bang for you buck
