- A sample of "Alone with my Thoughts" performed by Katrina Marzella at the Gala Concert of the 2014 European Brass Band Championships in Perth, Scotland. Arranged especially for Katrina by her husband Brenden Wheeler, this haunting Scottish melody features solo baritone horn with brass band accompaniment. Guest Clarsach player is Josie Rose Duncan.

Come along Brenden, it's time Nero put out a piano reduction of this piece for us to play. Unless you ARE Katrina or a couple of other star players the only way to get a bari. solo in a brass band is to kill the Principal cornet, euphonium and trombone players. So a piano accompaniment is the best to hope for for most of us. I keep going on at Richard [Mepstead] about it ! If you haven't time Judith Hayes would do an excellent reduction I am sure.

majcrash thats a regular Bflat bass (tuba) in a british brass band format, usually two of them along with 2 Eflat bass in a band.
@@Octovol We call it a BBb (double Bb bass), the single Bb bass is not used so much any more in bands. Although the double BBb is a much better fit in the brass band overall, the single Bb bass was a beautiful solo instrument. Some very pleasant sweet tones in the upper register (not unlike the Euph at times). It's kind of extinct now in brass bands as is the single Eb bass, but I understand why, the warmth of the double BBb is a winner.
