For a compser with little time for religion this is a composition of beauty and clarity, I am reminded of the mutual respect between Brahms and Johann Strauss son, they are buried side by side in the Central Cemetery in Vienna, Brahms died 1n1897, Strauss in 1899. Johannes Brahms made his last public apperaance at the MusikVerein. Brahms is reputed to have written on Johann' Strauss's wife's fan the opening bars of the Blue Danube with the comment ' not by Jojannes Brahms, unfortunately;. T

Wonderful voices, but I just think that one Bass voice sticks out too much

You remind me of the saying that "there are no definitive performances, but definitive performers". This was simply beautiful.

Dieses Werk hat Brahms mit Hilfe des Himmels geschrieben. Es ist übermenschlich. Als ob das Universum und das Licht uns armen Menschen Liebe ins Herz gießen würden.

The German Requiem is one of the most beautiful and heart-wrenching compositions ever made. This is a lighter arrangement than I'm used to but still emotional. The full orchestral version leaves me crying every time. Perfection!
