I'm PhiDX, I play Tekken professionally for @ParagonFGC and ArcadeShock.
10% off at ArcadeShock.com: PHIDXGAMES123
Hi PhiDX, do continue make more of these tutorials whenever time allows. It doesn't necessarily even need to be character-specific, tutorials on general gameplans could be just fine! Thank you for making these
Ah, like character archetypes!
I know Peter Mao has done a huge guide, but I like the idea of you doing this as a series for all characters, so do one for Bryan please :)
I want him to do Bryan so bad and hopefully he may know a lil dragonov
Peter Y. Mao is a good guy.
For bryan specifics, take a look at Ty Tekken as well. He's awesome
He doesn't know Bryan but with a couple minutes of practice, I think he will provide us
Ditto on the Bryan tho. He is kinda hard to play in the higher ranks as you need to be more precise on his movesets
I have a lot of trouble with turtles, and end up overextending/become obvious with my offense, so this was very eye opening to me. We can even learn from the opponents you're facing, like this Kaz! What not to do, etc. Man, this could end up being the best series of YT Tekken videos, ever. Just a wealth of knowledge.
x2. It is so hard for me to fight turtles. I will try this approach next time I play Steve
Steve has ext duck 2 1+2 and 2 break command grab for turtles
Me too! I’m always trying different tricks to try and get in. Realised that maybe I’m overplaying a bit haha.
3:20 is such a Steve moment. Always funny
Man the way you explain things is perfect! I am following so many Tekken TH-camrs and streamers and noone does such a tremendous job like you! Thank you, I will be spending hours on rewatch of those guides while playing Tekken 8 in two months ;)
Holy fuck these are actually gold content (watched the Jin one also). On god you're an excellent teacher, Phi! It's already quite hard to talk while playing, yet the fact that you can explain your current thoughts and strategies with such degree of clarity is actually remarkable. Please keep these videos coming!
Hey Phi, this kind of content is really amazing as there is rarely anyone out there teaching this kind of in-depth method that you're doing!
One thing that was a struggle for me when I was learning Steve was I somehow have this mindset that I have to utilize 100% of his kit and use every stance and every move to its utmost potential like how you would Jin. When his basic moves can already effectivelycover most of his gameplan. I'd also like to add how potent flk2 and d2,1 is to his kit.
The using whole kit should come after gauging your opponent and when you need to add layered mindgames. It depends on the character as well. Against characters other than Kazuya you may have to add in more duck in pressure or peekabo stuf.
True! I watched a lot of Heera Malik and thought that was how to play Steve 100% of the time, hence where I got the idea I think. Also great tierlist man, I just watched it yesterday. It was really interesting and insightful
Your content has been mad educational to me man, keep up the good work!
Even though it's for Tekken 7, I still find this real time thought verbalization super helpful. I have a big problem with flowcharting hard in Tekken and relying too much on my intuition. I've never quite learned what an actual iterative thought process in matches should be so I appreciate this alot
This video couldn't have come at a better time for me. I just switched from Kazuya to Steve. I'm having a blast. Also your ability to play the game while also giving incredible insight without lacking in precision on both of those things is amazing.
Thank you for these videos. As a slightly above beginner tekken player, and a person who thinks Steve is the absolute coolest boxing character every created. Gives me hope that one day, I'll actually be able to play one of my favorite characters and actually get good with him. Rather than everyone saying i should pick someone else.
you should play who you enjoy 100%! tekken is a long haul and fun is so important
big recommend picking up Steve immediately if you like him. this video will work great as a basic guide
it's easy to get intimidated by all of Steve's stances and the difficulty of his combos, but those are things you can build up to with practice. you can play a perfectly decent Steve using just his basic key tools, and worry about learning the hard stuff later
the two things I would recommend working on as a beginner in Tekken more than anything are movement and timing
learn to backdash cancel, learn to dashblock, learn to sidestep/sidewalk into block. get comfortable combining these and focus on using your movement to control space
learn to be patient with your attack timings and pay attention to your opponents' habits. develop your ability to outtime your adversaries
if you can build a strong foundation of movement and timing, you'll set yourself up to be able to succeed with any character in the game. my advice is just work on those simple things, pick whoever you like and keep your gameplan simple and direct. the rest will fall into place as you go

I love it. “I’m gonna show you a Steve that’s not too hard to play.” First thing he does is the shiro combo 😂😂😂
Awesome videos as always
@@EraseTime I tried to learn it in practice mode and spent a good amount of time trying it and couldn’t land it once. And I don’t have the worst execution. I guess I just need to try it out again.
anything is easy when you master it lmao@@EraseTime
@@execautoexecfr bruh forgot the meaning of the word mastering
@@EraseTime
Silliest comment I read today.
The arcade stick I think is the key. I don't know much about Steve and hadn't played Tekken since ttt2 however I was getting curious about the combo, so yesterday I tried to perform it but with very poor results. This morning I dusted off the arcade Stick and, albeit with some difficulty was coming out a good 30% of the time. I am convinced that with enough practice and less rusty hands than mine one can easily learn it.
hey phi! your brilliant perspectives when it comes to post-match analysis and gameplan going into matches have always been inspiringly great, so i'm incredibly stoked to see a series where we get to see more of what your live thought and decision making process looks like :] letting us pick your brain like this makes me feel spoiled i can't wait for more content like this and the vs speedkicks leo video!
I love these types of content. Giving a breakdown of characters can help people pick a main before Tekken 8 comes out. Please keep them coming!
met that emperor kazuya again lol
these videos are great, and given the short recording length and casual unedited style must be a breeze to produce, provided you get a suitable opponent to demonstrate on
really excited for more of these, please keep them coming!
It depends... this one was hard cuz I found some great opponents but kept losing and failing to demonstrate it lmfao.
@@PhiDX I bet, must take a while to get a good take
thank you for taking the time man, the end results are definitely worth it
Hey buddy....I've watched a million guides and tutorials on steve....THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST ONE....Very hands on....I've learned so much....Thank you...I've definitely subbed
Would love to see a Feng guide in this style!
This is really good content. Its not just helping me to play Steve but also helping me to understand the matchup against steve. What to watch out for etc. Thank you for that!! I hope you keep doing this type of content.
love this content, and your comentary to your own gameplay is super helpfull. there is not much like it on youtube. You definitely got me subscribed
Great video! Steve was the first character I played in T7 because of his weave move. The absolute most fun I had in that game was dashing in and then weave dodging moves and side stepping randomly, sometimes dodging that way too. After a few days of doing that I went to learn how to taunt jet upper w/ Bryan. Once I could do it 8/10 times I then didn't play the game again for the next 5 years.
As a noob (I've been playing this game for about 3 years and barely seem to know wtf I'm doing) at raijin rank, I really appreciate this series. What would personally help me is kind of a general mindset on what to do vs certain characters. This is the reverse of that but also extremely useful. Looking forward to more of these.
been playing as steve since tekken 6, and im proud when i dicovered im comfortable playing as steve. now that i own tekken 7 (might probably buy tekken 8), i might play again.
seeing you play as steve makes me practice more, but using a fightstick, which im creating one right now.
thank you for this.
How you find Steve in Tekken 8 and what's ur rank
Yes this format is fantastic. Please do more of these, for as many characters as possible :D
Triple S. Solid Steve Style.
Great advice! My problem is that I don’t know all the punishes and unsafe moves.
But seeing you win while keeping it simple is an eye opener. I always feel like I’m not doing enough with Steve. I’m always doing gimmicks and tricks to try to open them up because I don’t know how else to play neutral. This is a great guide to hopefully improve on those tendencies.
Guys please keep in mind that this is not applicable for all matchups. Steve eats alive characters that have an upright offense like mishimas and josie. But this becomes not the case against characters with frequent evasiveness or highcrush on their main tools. Notice b1 and 121 are both high options. Characters like feng and dragunov are characters that have key moves that go under these high options (db3 and d2 respectively) so this demands more df1 gameplay from you as the steve player.
Well said. Also now well known he has a difficult time executing that plan against Marduk as done by Atif 😂
Decided to watch this video on Steve before I watched your Tekken 8 stuff on him. Studied all your vids & the character for a few weeks. Just started playing ranked last Sunday & im already in purple ranks. Just a goated character. His new PKB tech after LH is insane too! Having a bit of trouble getting that consistently. Thank you for the content!
You are killing it recently. Trying to get my kazumi to fujin before t8, so those kind of videos are very appreciated :D
I FU@#@#@ DID IT
This was pretty cool to see, Phi. If you could do this for most characters in the future that would be pretty rad. It's nice to be reassured by a good player that I am indeed playing my character correctly when I decide to stop playing like an unhinged goon
Been digging all your content. Keep it coming. The Jin and the Tekken Scrub videos were fire.
Man, where were you when T7 came out. You make it look so simple
These videos teach the gameplan of characters better than any other guides.
so hyped for 8! first tekken I get to play at release. cant wait to play steve!
This is the best thing I could’ve ever asked for. I’ll watch every one of them and impart them onto all by friends to teach them.
These videos are amazing. There’s a lot of focus on how to use moves in tekken guides, but little about how to set up a game plan
love this format. I'd also love to see a video about how you developed the gameplan
This content is so valuable, I feel like it's the coaching lesson I needed. lol
Much appreciated man I’m struggling with steve on ruler ranks and i think this is why my timing is too predictable and i don’t use 121 like ever, I’ll put your tips in my gameplay sir PhiDX
I'm 42y old, and never played Steve in any Tekken, because I thought he was too complicated to learn, and I'm only an orange/red rank scrub.
After watching this video i tried him and it is so much fun!
Only using:
112, 121, b1, df1+2, df2, wr2, d1 and d21.
After 1 day I feel he's my strongest character already, even without optimal combos.
Thank you so much brother 😃
Just recently decided to ego death myself and just start over, try to learn fundamentals and a new character. Picked Steve! This was hella helpful
Dude because of this video i climbed up from Marauder to Warrior. I used to play steve using his whole command list and also being too aggressive always relying on PKB pressure. I'll definitely going to stick on this defensive counter playstyle.
This videos is underrated and I think you should create more videos like this. There are some content creators out there who just jabber alot of non sense and can't really do shit in real matches. You literally showed us in game on how to adjust your gameplan and condition the opponent. You are a true Champ 🏆.
I'd love to see a Law guide!
Love the video, wish the opponent was closer to your level
Thanks for this, there aren’t enough tutorials like these
As a begginer with Steve this was very helpful, the thing I still struggle the most with are his combos and mixups after hitting a counter
Combos are the hard part to first pick up Steve for sure. But remember Steve is not a mixup character unless he's at the wall!
If you *need* to mix (like last second), you have qcf1 and his poke lows. Db3 is hard to land on infinite
one advantage of learning Steve's combos is that learning the stance cancels required for them will help when it comes to making your neutral gameplay safe. it may be a grind at first, but it's worth it in the end
Would love to see a Tutorial on any Steve Fox play/strategy. Enjoying these types of videos~
Hey, nice advices, you were chilling in that matches. What is about if you play against stronger Kazuya?
No usage of swaying and ducking, same two combos, very defensive play. This is how you get to tekken god prime but I don't wanna reach that rank if it means I give up the one thing I like about Steve
His personality, which isn't doing 3 hit combos or one button counters
Dude I feel tht so much, to use the bs gimmicks I like about characters I have to be soooo much better in general
Loving these series
Love your vids man, keep it up! Hope the channel will blow up even bigger with t8
I had to leave another comment this guide made me playing Steve so much easier. I’m a low level player, Vanquisher with my main eddy, so when I played with Steve this made my game plan so much better, I don’t know any Steve combos but I was winning rounds off the strength of 121 follow ups and df2 with no combo because I can’t duck cancel. Time to hit the lab and get ready for tekken 8 Steve
Great work man keep it up!!
Hi can you do a Law version of objectively please. Thank you for your high level of insight and knowledge. Seriously one of the best tekken channels out there! ❤️
Crazy good advice.. im steve main and "stuck" in rulers for a while, i play so much more aggressive. You play 1000 more chill and easily win. I am basically defeating myself, you are letting your opponent defeat himself. I will try to apply your advice and hopefully reach blue ranks for the first time. thanks!
okay well time to go learn steve for once
You won’t regret it
Would love to see these types of guides soon for tekken 8
Very cool to see you exploring different characters. Are you going to make vids only on those you play yourself or all [returning in t8 probably?] characters?
In T8 I will learn everyone but in T7 I would not be able to learn everyone to an adequate level
A tutorial would be cool.
I think I'm going to check out the character to practice Tekken 7 as a game like you said.
Sir this content is amazing. Very informative and entertaining while not overwhelming. 10 out of 10, and pls do the df2 combo tutorial. Xd
welp, I finally have a reason to play steve, and an actual gameplan to work off of
This is an awesome format man. You should also do how to play against certain characters and focus purely on the opponent
Very helpful. Would love to see this applied to some other characters like Lili.
this was pretty helpful for a character that is pretty daunting at the start. it would be helpful if you included an easy air combo, a lot of his combos are these difficult multiple stance stuffs
Dope love these videos that show game plans. As a Tekken newbie, its cool to know about the thought process. Perhaps gameplans as Mishimas or other characters!
@PhiDX can you do shiro combo tut. Its so hard to get the cancel consistently
this format got me to sub
Like this sort of content. Don't think showcasing how to shiro combo is necessary considering there are tons of tutorials out but I would personally enjoy in depth guides from you when T8 is out.
Yes, this is exactly what I wanted. Thanks papa Phi.
This format is really helpful. Could you do it with Law or Dragunov?
I rly like these How to Play videos a lot. Hope you can make more of each character (at least those you like)
Steve doesn’t require execution. 1 second later does the shiro combo :)
id love too see one with negan, leo and bryan. awesome content
i love this format!
As a Steve Player, this is some good stuff 👍
Would be cool to see you do a bryan guide only ty has made any recent bryan guides, very in depth and useful thanks for the vid.
This is really cool series. Please do Feng and Sergei!
This was super helpful as I was really struggling dealing with the Leroy matchup when learning Steve. Next time I play him I'll remember to use 121 and work on my movement.
It would be cool to see you just try to climb ranked with a new character and maybe break down some common ranked strats people use and how to beat them.
When you learned Tekken, did you take the time to learn how to punish every move or did you take specific moves back into practice when there was something you struggled with?
Loving the content recently! Could we get a Claudio or Hwoarang next?
Honestly, this series is great! I need one for Law ASAP!
Easy, just be reminded that boring f+1+2 and d/b+3 Law is way stronger than DSS Law
So good at giving insights, thanks man. Just playing fundamental with few tools.
Although not incorporating a bit crazyness into your gameplay is a bit boring.
Like a bit too academic gameplay, looks like knee playing Steve.
I prefer adding a more funky layer like Heera Malik Steve for example
You never fail to impress!
This poor same Kaz showing up in every one of your videos 🥲
Bruh this man casually just does the shiro combo at the start of the video and not even a steve main LMAO
Holy shit! I just commented this yesterday! THANKS PHIDX!!
I'm enjoying this series
More of this Phi.
I would love to see a shiro combo tutorial!
Please do a shiro combo tutorial, you are the bestatbreaking down concepts in Tekken. I have also mastered pretty much all of Steve's tech cancels like the B2 into flk combo, f2 pkb cancel into sonic fang, etc. Still can't do shiro.
I hope you do this for T8. This is awesome
Could you do video about characters with subpart panic moves? I play master raven and i have trouble with getting pressured(im working on it like ducking and looking for unsafe moves). But im intrested how would you approach it
Nice content
You opened my third eye
This one was sick
I really like this type of format, pls do Yoshi next 😅
GAMEPLANS GAMEPLANS GAMEPLANS. This is the hardest part about being bad at fighting games. This is the kind of content fgc creators need to make more of
Edit:
And I’m down for more Steve stuff in general
Gotta hit Kazuya with a guide like this 💪
This is how I play King when my opponent can throw break 😅
How important are korean backdashes for steve? I know some characters dont need them
Dang these are pretty nice. thanks phi phi
