    20:00 that song is from 2013 when Riot Games introduced Jinx into League of Legends. Its called "Get Jinxed" and has 119 million views on youtube. It was the first time Riot was working witch Fortiche, a French Animation studio who at the time was 5 people and they made a music video for the song. Fortiche is the animation studio who is behind Arcane and is now 300 people big, all thanks to this show.
    Edit: Its worth doing a reaction to "Get Jinxed"

    "When has Marcus ever done anything right?"
    I'd argue he did something right when he kidnapped Vi at the end of Episode 3. Because he's right -- Silco would've killed Vi if he'd seen her, that was his intention when asking Powder "Where's your sister?". And Powder would've likely died as well. So there's that.
    Doesn't make him a good guy though. Or likeable. But he's good for something, at least.

    Since you asked, Progress Day is very much what the World's Fair from ye olde days was about. People from around the world bring and show things what their countries can offer or corporations can showcase new products. Yeah, you did read Viktor not wanting to be on stage because of his disablitly, but Jayce is pretty egotistical so he's fine with it. As many commenters have said as well Caitlyn is indeed capable, but Marcus shuts her down because he doesn't need people looking too deep. Jayce is trying to help her since her family pulled strings to get her out of the Enforcers. Next episode is gonna be awesome for you.
    EDIT: One more thing about this world is that Piltover is totally an autocratic system of government. The ruling council is totally made up by the weathy and richest people. How well the city and the people do is purely based on products being produced and sold all over the world. The richer the families are, the more the city thrives... but yeah, not for everyone. The Hexgates also helps make Piltover a hub of commerce, with other countries using it as sort of a Panama Canal, thus making it even more weathly.

    "Including those in the Undercity" Is maybe a strong wording. I am going to say that, while Jayce made it sound like it is for everyone, there was _no one_ from the undercity in that tent to hear the speech.
    He also made the Atlas Gauntlet for the miners, so they can "Work harder and without fatigue" Now, that does sound good on the surface. Should benefit the workers, right? But if this technology gets used, my guess would be that it would just mean longer shifts for the workrs, since the work isn't s tiring and a higher workload expectancy. In the end, the one benefitting would probably the mine owner, not the worker.
    To be clear, I don't think Jayce realizes that. To him, this _is_ for the workers. he just doesn't see the disparity and the ruthlessnes within the system

Many of your viewers will have watched the show and reactions to it dozens of times (for me it is clearly more than 50) and gathered a "knowledge" that is impossible to gain by one view! Make a connection to the story and the characters (I think you already did😉), enjoy the show and stay authentic! For me that's all it needs. No need to get into an observation competition. Don't see comments like "Haven't you noticed...? " as critic. A few comments:
    The tent was guarded by seven enforcers, though as we saw they were lured away and most of them murdered.
    Marcus has always listened, even in the early days, it was after all the Counsel that told him and Grayson to do anything within their power to find the kids, turn the Undercity upside down.
    Jayce invited Viktor up on stage, I lie to think Viktor's not being in the limelight is more self imposed, not everyone thrives there, we saw he was stressing over running he might have to give the speech in Jayce's absence.
    The poro was most frightened of Jayce due to nearly having rocks dropped on it, then being accidentally fired on by a laser, heh
    Finally, there's an element to this show that will be hard for people, and has shown to be. This isn't Earth, and with that they don't have the same hangups as we do, or at least it hasn't been shown, there are fully women in power on all levels (Grayson, the Counsel), they weren't so much giving Caitlynn grief because she was female, but because she comes from an extremely rich background, but was slumming it with them, when she's clearly just trying to earn her own way, free of that background. This Concept of not having the same hangups will come up again.

      How someone responds to Marcus has kind of turned into my barometer for how strongly a reacter is led by the writers' intent. The audience is very much encouraged to dislike Marcus when they show us his disdain for the zaunites, but we don't need to read too much between the lines to see what his intentions are and why he's doing the things he does.
      He was willing to take Silco's information in the first act because he saw Greyson do the same with Vander. He arrests Vi because she's responsible for blowing up a building and stealing a bunch of unstable magic rocks... and also because she would indeed be dead if he hadn't. He doesn't like Caitlynn because she is (from his perspective) a spoiled socialite who constantly disobeys orders, and whose influential parents are forever demanding special accommodations to keep her safe.
      Some reacters notice all of this pretty much immediately (I certainly didn't), but the vast majority of them just latch on to that first impression and continue to blame Marcus for everything -- even for certain actions he takes in the final act, where he arguably has less freedom of choice than any other character in the series.
      I admit, my pet peeve with reactions to Arcane are people who blame Marcus for things which are 100% Silco's fault, and then go on to gush about how amazing Silco is. :v

      @@sanctimoniouslocke3941 Marcus is mainly a "normal" human between superheros. In the beginning he is to pride for he little understanding of the world. And than later he's not evil, just not brave.
      Spoilers:
      He does make a lot of the same decisions as the heroic characters, but is just not lucky or brave enough to be a hero in this story. He disobeys the orders of his mentor when He storms the last drop, like vi in the opening or jayce in his hearing episode 2.
      Also (hard spoilers) he gives up his 2 biggest character motives (his pride and his believe that you should enforce law hard and don't make deals with criminals) for his daughter. Just like Vander and Silco. Also he's the only one who prevented a crime in the whole show when he saves vi from getting killed by Silco in episode 3 and keep her hidden for years.

    Two nice catches -- one, that Silco seems to be showing a certain level of gentleness or understanding in his office scene towards Jinx. A lot of reactors seem to focus on their closeness (in a negative way) and sort of assume the worst there. And the river Styx comment as Caitlin approaches the Hold ... I had that same thought when I first viewed that scene.

  • @th3voice
    @th3voice 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    The guards WERE protecting the incredibly valuable stuff, but then Jinx set a trap and lured them into it. While the guards were kinda dicks, they selflessly tried to save the helpless little girl from the burning building. Kinda heroic tbh.
    Caitlyn isn't good at her job. She's an excellent detective and investigator, but her job is to be a COP. For all he's awful and contemptible, Marcus is correct in one thing: there's a chain of command for a reason. You don't WANT a bunch of renegade cops investigating whatever draws their attention. Caitlyn needs a new and better job... which she now has: unemployed heiress vigilante. She's basically a just-starting-out femme Batman.
    Jinx doesn't just want chaos. She desperately wants to prove that she's useful to those she has designated her in-group... which right now is Silco, since he's been trying to take care of her and protect her. Nice catch on Silco trying to keep her safe and OUT of trouble... the whole topside raid is because she wants to prove herself, and explicitly against his wishes. He just isn't a big enough hypocrite to keep scolding her when she achieves a pretty spectacular success, given that he was only concerned about the dead Enforcers insofar as their deaths would make trouble... when she shows that she got something major out of it, he's dumbstruck, but he stops the scolding.
    As for Jinx needing counseling... I'd agree in our world, but I see no indication that such a thing exists in Piltover or Zaun. Might as well say "she should eat the magical mental wellness cookies that resurrect your dead family twice a week and maybe stuff will improve"... if the resources don't even exist in the setting, it's kind of pointless :P

    • @Mi_Z
      @Mi_Z 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Not sure if it's in the lore or not, but I assume with the steampunk setting we would be looking at late 19th century views on mental health in this World. A lot of reactors comment on therapy, as if it's an actual option. Or they think Silco is at fault for not helping Jinx more with her issues. They are viewing the situation with modern day sensibilities.
      The most likely mental health resources in this world would be something like the equivalent of Bedlam -- at best she would rot away there for the rest of her life, worst case would also include torture. Perhaps the rich of Piltover have better options, but for those in Zaun? Live in misery and quickly die is probably the standard Zaun version of therapy.

      @@whitenoiseanimereacts I agree, but it bears remarking upon, I feel. There are those who would fault Ellen Ripley for not taking out her laser cannon and frying the xenomorph, given that it's a sci-fi setting so obviously she must have one. Arcane does a lot of good work to show us what's available and what isn't, what they can do with magic and what they can't, which keeps the magic from making the whole story pointless, which deserves some respect... also, if it turns out the region has a competent therapist, Jinx actually isn't the first person I'd send to see them, though I think Silco probably would.

    The guards that died in the fire/explosion were guarding the building with the gemstone. Jinx set the fire & bombs to lure them away from what they were guarding and distract them. Jinx was busy stealing the gem while the guards were fighting the fire. It was a rather intelligent thing to do, at least from someone that sees enforcers as the enemy to the point where their lives are forfeit... like Jinx.
    Also neither Jinx nor Silco are evil. They're fighting a situation of massive oppression from topside. Jinx is only shown to kill 'enemy soldier' types - enforcers and firelights, both being factions that have taken up arms against Silco's revolutionary movement. You can argue that they didn't deserve to die sure, but it's a war-time / battle morality. Jinx has not been shown to kill innocent people indiscriminately.

      This is show where even the worst characters have a little good and even the best have a little bad. The show definitely operates in those shades of grey. So I wouldn't say Evil isn't a useful concept, just an oversimplification that lacks the nuance of this situation. Silco despite his faults is fighting for a cause. Jinx is battling mental illness and trauma, seeking love and approval in all the wrong ways. So I wouldn't call either of them evil. Hell, I can make arguments for them being good characters. Silco is a freedom fighter after all. However, I wouldn't get held up on the definitions of good and evil here. Stella was only expressing the extreme Jinx has gone to. Is it the most apt term? No. But good enough for an off the cuff reaction to Jinx's actions.

    You'd be surprised at how little "guarding" a guard actually does. Having guards where crime isn't likely to happen is about the same as putting up fake surveillance cameras. Don't worry about missing the Vi lookalike. Most people miss it. She's meant to look a lot like Vi. The differences are subtle, because the wanted her to look close enough to Vi to trigger Jinx.
    The little creature is a poro. The reason it hid from them was because they nearly shot it earlier in the lab by accident. Not because of any vibe.
    The show doesn't really get into gender discrimination. Caitlyn not being taken seriously has more to do with her family connections/money and her mother being on the council. You even see another female enforcer making fun of her for it in the episode. "Shouldn't you be at a cocktail party?" There is also a scene at the beginning of the next episode that addresses this too. You sorta implied you were a week ahead of youtube, but I won't spoil it just in case.

      Reactors get a pass on the Vi lookalike thing. It seems like most miss that. Although one key giveaway is that Vi appears as if she was still young Vi, with young Vi face and she's shorter than Powder. Still, most people don't catch that. As a positive she realized it was Powder/Jinx in the underbelly of the ship early on-- I get sort of frustrated when reactors miss that, or don't even realize it's Jinx after she monkey bombs them.

    This good/evil -- heroes and villains thing -- doesn't apply so much to this show. Jinx is many things but I wouldn't consider her evil. Silco isn't even evil.
    As for Jinx' motives this episode -- she wanted approval, as evidenced by the "I'll show him" scene in her lair, as well as the 'Get Jinxed' scene where she hugs Silco. It wasn't chaos for the sake of chaos (although she's certainly chaotic).
    By the way, as for now not caring about murder... she was making nail bombs when she was like 10. Vander was training them all to be thieves (at the least). I don't think she (and her family) would have batted an eye killing enforcers even as children. Time just made her better at it.

    • @cluster_f1575
      @cluster_f1575 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      While I agree with your first two points, I disagree with your last about Vander approving killing enforcers. He was more about de-escalating the tensions between Piltover & Zaun, hence why he & Greyson had their arrangement to keep the peace.
      Also remember back in either episode 1 or 2, there was a scene with Vander & Vi where he had chastised her that violence was not the solution to her problems.

      My point was that Powder as a child wasn't exactly an upright citizen, innocent of any crimes. So although she is certainly a more proficient murderer as an adult, and by working with Silco I am sure she got more practice at it, we need to wrap our heads around the fact she was making nail bombs as a little girl too.

    Don't worry, that Vi fake out confuses almost every reactor. I nearly missed it my first time watching. I wish they made it a touch more obvious in the moment that it wasn't Vi. Only because if by the end of the scene you think Vi is dead, you'd be a little distracted by that going into the next scene, wanting clarification, and also feeling a little underwhelmed at the sudden and abrupt reunion and apparent end of that relationship.

    • @LockeNarshe
      @LockeNarshe 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It kind of is made rather obvious, though, from the lack of a reaction from the pink-haired girl. I understand that they do use Vi's actual face for a moment to represent Jinx's trauma, but they equally show a face that shares no real resemblance to Vi other than the pink hair and seeing Jinx elicits no response at all but to try and pull away. There's no audible gasp, no longing look or even surprise on her face. I'm not shaming, per se, as they do show Vi's face in the first half and that usually catches people's attention to the point that they ignore the second half of that interaction, but I don't think the writers did an unfair job of thoroughly showing that it isn't Vi. Plus, for the build-up you see in the first 3 episodes, it simply doesn't make an ounce of sense that Vi would be killed that way.
      EDIT: In all fairness, no one catches every detail of this show on a first viewing. Hell, not even on a second. :P

      I can accept when a reactor mis-judges the girl at the beginning during that scene. It happens quickly, and I think it's inherent in the nature of reacting to see the initial appearance (the Jinx delusion) and to start discussing it, not allowing later indications that it's not Vi to sink in. What annoys me is when in later scenes, they confirm it wasn't Vi but the reactor hangs onto the thought that it still was, unable to reconsider, sometimes even arguing with the show itself. Our reactor here Stella avoided that and accepted that it wasn't Vi during the scene in Silco's office, so all is good.

      A couple other ways to know it wasn't actually Vi... even with the overlay of Vi's face, it was her face from 7 years ago. Everyone else is much older now, wouldn't Vi also be older? Also, the pink haired girl is about a foot shorter than Jinx is, and Jinx is not tall by any means. Anyway, I completely understand why viewers make the mistake but aside from a tatoo that says "NOT Vi" on her cheek I don't see how much more they could do. Again, this makes the re-watchability much better and most people will wonder how they didn't see that. There are many story beats that are a surprise when you first see them but later seem like we should have seen them coming.

    Stella I am glad that you have overcome the trauma caused by episode 3, I broke many emotionally and the truth is that this would have been more family friendly, a separation like that would not have happened or it would be possible that Powder hit her head and lose her memory or that Vi does not see her and she believes that he abandoned her, but they give us an irreparable wound that marks both sisters and we see how Jinx carries the shadow of her brothers to the point of representing them with dolls but she does not have one of Vi so we assume that he either doesn't believe her dead or just still hates her, the time jump gave us a space to see how both Piltober and the Lower District grew under the influence of both the Hexghate and the Shimmer and that an opposing force to Silco challenges him sabotaging their shipments, the way Silco says "the others who?" He refers to the fact that no one can hold meetings behind his back and it seems that he is overporting Jinx which shows that he has feelings for her. Caitlyn will now be the one who takes the viewer and we can see that her career as an enforcer is overshadowed by her family's surname, while she seems to have a friendship with Jace although now they seem more distant, they don't see each other as a couple but as friends separated by their jobs , which took one to the top and the other forces her to go down, Victor on the other hand keeps a low profile and also an illness, while Jace is carried away by fame although he decided to be cautious as Hermeindigger told him , after the mess that Jinx made Mel Medarda makes his move and forces the council to give Jace more responsibilities, Caitlyn's path leads her to run into Vi and this gives us a Hype for the next episode.

Now yes, the size thing is quite noticeable and one of big giveaways, but I give reactors a pass on this. Most get this wrong.
      And to her credit, she followed through, commenting how she thought she wasn't dead (backpack) ... and then reacted when she in fact appeared dead.
      A lot of reactors seem to cheat here. I noticed in a lot of reaction videos how the reactor states they think it's Vi, but make no comment afterwards about her apparent death, nor have any reaction to a major character seemingly dying. They just remain silent on the whole situation. And that makes me think they simply edited out that part so they didn't look dumb.
