I love Arthur. He adds so much to the show.
For the ones who haven't seen this whole episode, Arthur shows Doug a picture of Carrie's mother and sees that she's a big lady. Arthur mentioned to Doug that all the ladies on that side of the family eventually "blow-up" and that was enough to scare Doug about Carrie's future. That is why he is suddenly careful about what she eats. Doug realizes he messed up, apologizes like in every other episode and they make up in the end. It's just a joke and yes ironic that it should be the other way around but that's what makes it funny.
Thanks for the context. While still ridiculous for him to complain about her body, I can appreciate that he was that size when they got married.

One reason I like this show so much is it’s realism. Doug, Carrie and Arthur are all flawed in their own ways which makes it all the more realistic.

There are different standards for men and women. I think she looks nice, but as a woman once explained, a women is sensitive about her body, like a guy about his penis. She could definately lose a bit of weight.

This episode is so realistic. My husband would ask me to lose weight, and I would go for it, no holding back. Abs while we watch tv, squats while im cooking, etc, etc. Cut my calories, increase veggies, only water.. hubby would come home with soda and chocolate and he would beg me to have some🙄 boys are stupid.

Doug goes merrily through his life year and year out and he is very overweight. But he could care less!!!! Then one day he sees a bag with the Big & Tall Shop logo on it with something Carrie purchased for him and he goes nuts freaked out about his weight!!!! I immediately asked myself "What just happened here???? Did I miss something????? Lol!!!!

I recently heard "Smooth" by Rob Thomas and Carlos Santana on the classic rock station and almost teared up. I guess it upsets me how fast time has passed by

You don't get the re-runs? It's every single night... maybe 8 to 10 episodes in a row Monday thru Friday. Not sure about the weekends.. I liked watching it too, but I'm kimda on burn-out because I've seem every episode so many times.. I was trying to think of my favorite episode, and one of them is diefinitely when they get the wrong people's photos at the drugstore... LOL. I also like the woman dials up the wrong Doug Hefferna

The weird part about the actor who played Carrie's dad, Jerry Stiller, is the real life grandfather to the kids of the actress that played Marcia Brady in The Brady Bunch movies.
