    in this video I will share how I got my ficus plants to grow a branch (and more!) in less than three months. This method works with any ficus plant: ficus lyrata aka fiddle leaf fig, ficus elastica (tineke, ruby, burgundy, etc...) aka the rubber tree plant, ficus audrey, ficus altissima and more! I am also sharing the results of my methods I used on my ficus audrey and ficus elastica ruby.

    First, this video was the best I have seen about notching and I have watched over a dozen different videos on the topic in the last 24 hours. Thank you for actually showing you notching in action, and good camera work!
    2nd - I want to give you props as a content creator.i almost always default to playing TH-cam videos in 1.25x speed because so many creators drag on so slowly and spend so much time on filler commentary. I actually turned your video back to 1x speed because it was clear you already have a great pace. You had a little intro speech but it was short and sweet and on topic so I didn’t skip over it, and you maintained a great flow as the video progressed.
    Thank you for being engaging without being gimmicky!

I'm really not surprised you got that one to branch out so fast, because I've noticed that my Audrey is a MUCH faster grower than my Burgundy

    Hi! Awesome video! 😊 It’s March 12, 2023, here in NH, and I just notched my Ficus Audrey. I decided it was time because there is new growth happening after all my leaves dropped off over the winter, so I’m excited to see what happens! It’s still a fairly young plant, but I believe it’s old enough for pruning. As a starting note, I notched in three spots. Will update if/when I see something happening!

      A really big tip I recently learned the hard way, is that when you eventually change the soil out, make SURE the new soil has been brought inside your home to warm up for a day to room temp. If you don't do this, you will root shock your tree and it will drop every leaf it has.

    Looking forward to a full Audrey video, thanks. Mine is new, with three distinct trunks in a small pot. It needs transplanting, as roots are growing out of the pot holes and especially at the soil surface, and I wonder if its best to try and separate the three trunks and put them in their own separate pot, or just let it grow as is. Will gently detangling the roots from its neighbors damage or endanger the Audrey, or can it tolerate this?
    UPDATE: I went ahead and carefully depotted and detangled the roots, giving each tree fresh soil and thorough watering. The threesome was so root-bound that untangling took a good 20 minutes or more. It's been a week and they look great. I also notched the trunks as you demonstrated. I will update in a few months.

    Thanks, that's the first straight explanation on notching I've found! so happy to have come across your channel. My little ficus audrey got badly burned, including the top node. Now she has pushed out five branches, but they're all on one side (the side that didn't get sunburn) and four of them are near the bottom. I'm concerned that she'll be lopsided or that the branches are going to be very scraggly and thin. Do I prune some of them off? How important is taking out the leaf when there is a new branch? My plant is very low leaves... There would be only 3 left if I did that and not prune off any. I feel so bad for getting her into this mess by burning her. :/ Any advice is wecome

    • @rogstorm4447

      Hey ficus audry is direct sunlight tree and also it is called Indian banyan it will grow infinitely large

    • @Dave_en
      @Dave_en ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rogstorm4447 i agree with you. Banyan is not an indoor plant and with plenty of sunlight and water, it grows to enormous size. The problem with burning of leaves may be due to deficiency of certain nutrient in soil. To overcome this we need to add calcium and magnesium salts in the soil. Few granules of DAP ensures healthy growth. I have a beautiful bottle shaped banyan tree in a pot which i brought from my office.

    Dear Marianne B.,
    I hope you noticed that ficus plants are branching in the place the leaves are, a little bit above. So there is no use to cut plant randamli on the trunk, only the places above the leaves, there the plant stored the node.

    I would suggest you there are many alternatives to bring the branches for any tree, including ficus or any other tree. I just wire the straight Stam with a thick wire and slowly bend the Stam to stress the tree. That will encourage the tree to create branches. I have done it many avocado, lemon, orange and hibiscus trees. This process is faster and not damaging the plant.

    • @alexandraabraham6698
      @alexandraabraham6698 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, but they only branch on the upper curve, not at the lower curve. And it takes a long time. This way is quicker, and you can treat different sides/parts of the trunk.

    How do I know when to water my ficus Audrey? should I be misting it with water also? I live in NY and have bought one and it's been dropping leaves and turning yellow. Thank you

      Have the leaves been turning fully yellow? That might mean that it’s getting under watered. I would make sure to check the soil often to see when it gets dry and then water it from there.

      Thanks for your advice. I have been checking the soil before I water making sure I don't over water. some leaves turned completely yellow and just started dropping leaves. some are turning brown to black. Not sure what I am doing wrong.But I recently put fertilizer for ficus to see if it can help.

    I have a question, should you only do this on a woody part, or would it also work if it's still green?

      no, the woody part only. The green isn't developed or thick enough to take the 'stress'.
