Absolutely superb video Paul, I loved every second of it. Looks as though you had a great time ! And the weather was kind too. Looking forward to seeing the next one.
Looks like a great trip. I do find it alarming how often and for how long you have to take your eyes off the road to do the firing and tend the water, whilst bowling along at high speed.
I think the instructor was looking ahead quite often whilst that was happening. Also the line at Romney is quite straight and flat so one glance up gives you a good view of the line ahead and the surrounding land for a considerable distance. They would also know where the main hazards are and be able to watch for them.
Yes, it can look a bit scary for sure, however Alex my instructor was well aware of what was going on with the road ahead. On my follow up course I learnt a way of doing things in small groups and feeling the loco rather than looking at the controls al the time. The most part of the route is extremely straight and easy to see. While is seems fast in reality we only reach 20mph. On my second course I was able to do water pickups without even looking at the pickup drain so that was a huge win for me. Anyways, thanks for the lovely comment and glad you enjoyed the video, look out for my Gold Course coming soon where I do New Romney to Dungeness and a bit of shunting stock at New Romney
Awesome!!!!
Thanks!!, was a great experience to do and I’d recommend it to anyone interested

What a superb video Paul. The best I've seen of the RH&DR. What an incredible experience it must have been. Only a tiny bit jealous.😉
Would love to have a go. Looks like fun
