Well done Erik! That ankle looked pretty messed up! That's not one of those "walk it off" injuries! It should be wrapped! Good luck man! Always rooting for you!
Yes, should be in a pressure bandage and elevated as much as possible !! I “rolled” my ankle in May 2024 and whilst now “walkable” still have symptoms of discomfort.....
@ErlingJensen-g4c The longest record is actually 11 days. Edit: The highest is actually 18 days, after which Guiness stopped accepting new attempts because of the danger of the act.
It can't be stressed how important sleep is, in some circumstances it's more important than food and water. I nearly ran into a rock when over tired and failed to take a clearing bearing to ensure I was in safe water. It was over 30 years ago but I still get chills when I think of it. Boy, did I learn a lesson!
congratulations Erik you made it. Yea dont push it take it easy and Sail back safely to Norway and your family. Tomorrow is another day. cheers all the best. x
Your idea of adventure is the stuff of my nightmares😂 You truly have balls of steel. I can't even handle the cold! As far as I'm concerned, you accomplished your goal of getting to Greenland!!!
Erik it was such a pleasure to be onboard with you on such an epic journey, well done! How you sail singlehandedly, film your story on a go pro AND fly a drone whilst under sail blows my mind.
Wow! I felt the ankle I utterly wrecked mine to the point where i couldnt take a hiking boot off as Id never get it back in. That was in the UK. 10 months later it was operated on. It was a very wise choice imo not to try for Greenland again until it healed
Congrats Erik for an impressive accomplishment. I have a question, if I may: is there a reason why you did not consider to heave to and get some rest and may be try to get ashore in better condition?
I am so sorry to say that Eric but mission is not accomplished. I appreciate your adventure, it is not easy at all and takes guts to do what you did over there. But unfortunately it is not a victory. You came back without touching the land. I was so hyped when you said you were planning to go there after resting. I am waiting for the expedition Greenland 5:)
Does Tessie not heave to? It seems there may have been space between the ice outside the anchorage, and the big belt of bergs to heave to for a few hours of much needed rest.
Hi Erik, May I ask why you didn't heave to (outside the ice area) and took your rest there near Greenland? Thanks for the great footage. Learning a lot about growing into bigger and bigger adventures.
sprained ankle? here in Kiwi - Rugby !!! use strapping tape = then you could walk okay ...."AI Overview Learn more Ankle Taping : 6 Tips and Tricks | SportsPlus Physiotherapy To use "strapping" for a sprained ankle, apply athletic tape in a "figure-of-eight" pattern around the ankle, starting with anchor strips above the ankle joint, then creating a "stirrup" by running the tape under the foot and back up the opposite side of the ankle, repeating this pattern slightly lower down the ankle to provide stability and support, ensuring the tape is not too tight to restrict blood flow; consult a healthcare professional for specific instructions based on the severity of your sprain. Key points to remember when strapping a sprained ankle: Use the right tape: Use athletic tape designed for taping joints, typically zinc oxide tape. Apply underwrap: To protect the skin, use an underwrap before applying the tape, especially if you have sensitive skin. Anchor strips: Start by applying anchor strips above the ankle joint to secure the tape in place. Figure-of-eight pattern: Create a "stirrup" by bringing the tape from the inside of the ankle, under the foot, and back up the outside of the ankle, repeating this pattern slightly lower down. Tension control: Apply moderate tension to the tape, ensuring it provides support without cutting off circulation. Heel lock (optional): For added stability, you can add a "heel lock" by wrapping tape around the back of the heel. Important considerations: Consult a professional: If you have a severe ankle sprain, always consult a healthcare professional before attempting to strap it yourself. Greenland makes Iceland look tropical. Gulf stream current versus East Greenland current creates a big difference even though they are relatively close.
A great trip.... You almost achieved your Greenland challenge. But to see it is not to touch it. I'm sure you will rise to the challenge! Good try! Best wishes! I will watch but will never do what you can do!
I have exclaimed your incredible visuals and audio scape before and this adventure matches your best but I’m driven to share how much I admire the man himself. I thank God that there are still people alive that will push the boundaries of their own existence in the name of adventure, Who will seize the day and wring from it every drop of joy and possibility, who will share their love of life with those who only know mediocrity (like me) yet who, under the debilitating force of extreme exhaustion, chose their battles wisely. Bravo Erik, you are a man that many only wish they could emulate but most would not dare to try.
Didn't the vikings avoid the East coast of Greenland due to all the ice? Why not head around for the West coast on the next go round and spend more time in Greenland? I'd sure like to see that!
your brain does heal though ... mine did; keep right on going, and I am a bit of a savant for it. lack of sleep causes hallucinations. hypothermia causes hallucinations. they sent me strait from my hospital room, where I was being treated for frost bite, to the psyche ward of the same hospital ... I have been living with the curse of the misdiagnosis for decades.
Great adventure again. For some reason the Danish Guardian Gods of Greenland are not giving you passage to their country. I hope can still make the passage some day and we will cheer you on again.
To all. He saw land. He was not on land. This is disappointing. He has not been on greenland... I have flown over many countries...it does not mean i have been in thoes countryes

Dude went through 4 days of no sleep in an iceberg minefield and was like... I think I want to do that again 😂 this guy IS a Norwegian.
No one can stay awake for 4 days

Really awesome!! I don’t know where you get all the power from to do stuff like this. Congratulations. Great job!
Another great video.
You're brilliant, thank you for these wonderful challenges you are showing us, I admire you!
I think you made the right decision. You can't sail with a bad ankle. Fair winds.
Good call Erik. The next adventure could be approaching Greenland from the West - via the Northwest Passage.
Well done, Erik. You finally made it. As they say "close enough" 🙂
Congratulations! Your videos are awesome!
Bro you are a true legend mate❤️

🤗🤗🤗 Spitze !😁
And back
Good job. But going through ice alone is crazy with a plastic boat. You need another for those expeditions, made of steel or aluminium.
Hi Erik,
May I ask why you didn't heave to (outside the ice area) and took your rest there near Greenland?
Thanks for the great footage. Learning a lot about growing into bigger and bigger adventures.

Discretion is much of seamanship, and your decision making is greatly impaired by lack of sleep. This video demonstrates that.

Don't the raymarin camera and anti collision system detect ice chunks?
Possibly yes, but I wouldn’t like to be the first person to confirm it 😊
God vind. Fair wind.

Its a shame you didnt put some iceberg on that sprain, it would have helped.
Hello, how long is your sailboat?, I would like to see you sail with a larger sailboat, they are safer. Greetings from Spain.
your brain does heal though ... mine did; keep right on going, and I am a bit of a savant for it.

We will do it again, I will speak to the Danish Gods😀
If you're like me, you will always think about not touching land in Greenland as did I really meet my goal or was it just very close?
Its a haunting feeling 🙃
