Love the comment "I have had many of these so I am not complaining about getting a small one." You sir are the Connoisseur of the MRE. Keep up the good work and protect your palate.
I did 20 in the Navy and I only worked with the Marines a bit, and ate MREs for a while ....but, I flat out disagree with the DoD and DLA's decisions to remove all coffee and tea, all sugar and creamer from the MREs, and then have the absolute audacity to put 'Caffeinated' gum into the MREs that has artificial sweeteners, and as much caffeine as 3 cups of coffee per gum nugget that tastes like a chemical factory. Why not just put in a few tabs of ass tasting meth?
agreed. some people may not like it, but having the coffee, the 2 (buttered) crackers and either jalapeno cheese or peanut butter were the things i remember most from mres. I knew, no matter the menu that something was edible and having that bed rock of knowing something was familiar and tasty in there. hell, they have the fruit punch and chocolate drinks in there... just put the coffee in with the chocolate drink, or give me some teabags with coffee in it to suck on... better than the gum
Pepperoni in bread, makes me laugh. We have something here in West Virginia called a pepperoni roll, that by tradition was made here in WV and you go out of the state you don't tend to find them. They can just be pepperoni, my favorites have cheese or even a cheese and sauce in them. I would recommend trying one if you get the chance.
raided my local surplus store a few months ago. found the new cornbread & itailanbread sticks. along with having experience with the bridgeford made products out of camping foods. the itailain breadsticks on the dry side -- very heavy on the oregano. the frenchtoast is very good. the pepperoni pizza is a upgrade on the pizza slice. love the apples in cinnamon sauce. so far all the breakfast bridgeford line is very good. the cornbread is very good as well nice fresh & moist. suggestion, next time you get the peanut butter bar & the chocolate protein drink, dunk the bar in the drink.
I got a case of 2021 FSR at a garage sale. The Raspberry first strike bar is the best. That caffeine gum is horrible but will work in a pinch. I think the absolute worst snack in the FSR is the powdery beef jerkey. It would be like chewing on a piece of Compressed Fiber Board. However their was some things that tasted good. I am not sure what menu number I got from one of my local Surplus Stores. I took to the Deer Blind last year but it was BBQ Brisket and Au Gratin Potatoes. And we took a couple MCW's the Seafood Chowder. Great video today
@@roymcintyre579 have always enjoyed the au gratin potatoes. did try what is jerky chew, ground up jerky in what looks like a tobacco chew tin. not worth the effort to eat it. is this what your reffering to as powdered jerky?
I'm very new to prepping and want some MRE's. I went to your page and found I could only pre-order one package. Will you be offering these and others "First Strike" for sale or can you guide me where to go to get some?
Ebay or Amazon. I believe on Amazon a case is 125 right now. Which is not a bad price these days. There are alot of greedy people selling MREs right now
Buy them directly from the manufacturer or from their licensed retailer. It's the best way to get current, 2024, production. It's not the cheapest, but you won't be getting old rations that were stored in unknown conditions. Sure-Pak and APack readymeal are two civilian versions made by military suppliers and are easy to find current production cases. Edit: production date is the important number, ignore the inspection date unless it's 2026 or later.
WHYYYYYY don't these companies put these breads and other sides out into the civilian market. Don't worry about the retort packaging and put an expiry date. 😢 Nice review. I'd love to try this ration.
Amazon does have an "MRE BREAD COMBO" package, 12 items, four each of Tortillas, White Wheat Snack Bread and Italian Bread Sticks. $28. Other combos are Pound Cake Combo and Cookie Combo.
This might be ok if out hiking and you want a bunch of stuff to eat on the move. Out camping I'd rather have a real MRE with a heater and not just a bunch of bread. A warm meal goes a long way in terms of comfort. Doing away with coffee is gonna go down like a 1 egg pudding. There is gonna be a huge supply of families mailing instant coffee to soldiers.
Bro, my wife walked in when I first started watching it and literally she is like "You're watching that stuff again? --- oh he's got a really good smile." She doesn't get why I enjoy watching MRE videos and whatnot, but literally she watched the whole video and was like holy shit he's got some enthusiasm and charisma. Keep doin what you're doin - also stay away from my wife. HAHAHAH
IMO the ziplock bag is for leftovers from the MRE package like empty bags etc. You do not want to pollute by just dumping your garbage in the nature (peacetime that is). But in wartime you do not want to leave any trace about you being there at all. The Russians in the Ukraine are not very good at this at all , as an aside
Love your videos and your presentation is fabulous. Ok if someone threw me this and said get going, id throw it back at them and say you eat it. this is absolute garbage and all it designed to do is make you feel full really not offering anything substantial. what are we 4 yr old's and having a nap after lunch. i did 4 yrs in Kosovo, 92-96 and someone's getting their ass kicked if this is what they gave me. i see almost no carbs, no fat and all i see is gas station snack food, the protein count is dismal but most of all i need carbs. i come off patrol after a day of this and im gonna raid the mess cuz im starving. so glad im not serving anymore cuz if this is what they call sustainable, first thing im gonna do is kill a wild animal and light a fire. i know the guys i served with would feel the same. anyhow thanks for the review and im gonna keep coming back for more.
That should pack a turd that's not going out easy, at least the apple sauce might help hopefully, but I doubt it. Everyone I know or talked to says US mre's are not gut friendly and I have had a few and will have to say the same thing, they need to add more fiber in those.
How’s the filled French toast 8 grams of protein and the pork one only 12? Man the math ain’t mathing on that one. I thought even the soy filler would have more protein than that.
In heavy rucking I burn over 4000 calories per day and even more in winter. You definedly want high calorie food that is good tasting when you do that.
Keeping my eye out in the UK for some of the newer First Strike rations. Great review mate

Struth my mouth dried up watching you eat this! I hope the grunters carry plenty of water.
Thanks for the good work well done.
Happy Sunday, Mr and Mrs RR. Great review. As you said, somethings looked better than others.

Awesome review RR
Great review. I appreciate the full item by item review and rating. I myself love MRE's. Will for sure have to check this one out.
An idea for a future ration review: The "Beef In Jamaica Sauce" flavor MRE. I personally don't like it, but I'd like to see your take on it. 😊

Hey Readi there is a lot of bread in the First Strike MRE. Wish there was a FRH and a Saucy kinda main in there. Thanks for the review !
That energy bar looks like my toilet bowl after White Castle.
Awesome video as always. I like the gritty chocolate drink, it’s like pudding mix
This looks decent. The FSR's are not the tastiest but they are actually pretty awesome for what they are intended for. Awesome review RR!!!
Good one bro. Cheers
The Jalapeno Cheese spread would have probably been good with the BBQ bread.

Bridgeford sells the bread products
@choossuck7653 i called and asked them and they asked where I got the product from and I shouldn't have it and weren't helpful at all
Mmmm big ole bag of gas station food. Merica
the energy gum reminds me of "Blackblack gum' the caffeinated gum i had a Uk cabbie introduce to me.
Beef stick too small, felt that.
Where's a good place to buy MRE's?
emergency essentials. Got MRE's for the family, just in case. Goggle home survival food.
This might be ok if out hiking and you want a bunch of stuff to eat on the move.

Should have put your apple sauce on the French toast.
Are special mres issued to people with peanut allergies? Having that many peanut foods itd be a concern
I would guess that a peanut allergy might be a medical condition that would disqualify someone from enlisting.
Looks like not much but packaging has changed for the first strike ration.
If i go to war i probably never eat. Because what happen when nature strike in middle of fire fight?

Despite what the package said I think the chocolate powder would have benefited from more water to thin it out
jalapeno cheese spread on the bbq might of saved the flavor from being to sweet
I want to try the new version.
Assault?
Yes, MRE should mean meal ready to eat
That should pack a turd that's not going out easy, at least the apple sauce might help hopefully, but I doubt it. Everyone I know or talked to says US mre's are not gut friendly and I have had a few and will have to say the same thing, they need to add more fiber in those.
Why are US mre/first strike rations gross compared to other countries?
No Coffee? What is wrong with these people!!!
😎👍
✌🤓
I'm afraid that looked awful! Dry, sugary, artificial. When the best item in it - period - is processed American 'cheese', that says it all. Sorry
Not gonna lie a lot of us Americans literally enjoy the fake taste of our food.
NicE
that chicken bbq thing didnt look great

And the Pepperoni one only 8 grams too
The “bread” themed mains in these just look gross
It's just to small...that's what she said....lol
Taste like artificial fruit... Not bad!
That ration looks pretty sorry. Not what our soldiers deserve. It's a real shame.
Given the diabetes situation they should upgrade the ingredient content to be more health conscious.
A soldier in combat can burn as much as 5000 calories on the high end. That is not a concern.
@@Bluecatte Agreed

No one cares about the beetus when you need 4-6,000 calories a day in combat. Your comment is invalid.
Calories needed and an imminent belief you may be dead within the day kind of negate your frivolous argument.
Thanks for the review! Never saw a "strike ration" before! Looks like a lot of carbs, sugar, and caffeine! 🤔👍🤝🫡💯
👍👍👍🍀
