Sorry in advance; this comment is going to be long 😂.
This song is a perfect example of how and why The Warning are so special as creators. Most of the time all three of them collaborate on every aspect of the arrangement. Pau and Ale help create guitar parts, Dany & Ale have input on drums etc. By the time they’re done, they often can’t remember who came up with which specific bits.
One cool tidbit that’s an exception to that rule: the original arrangement of Dull Knives has a slightly different chorus. During the first part (after “Don’t know what I’m feeling any moooore…”) there used to be a drum fill before the next line and that was it. It’s out there on a couple of performance videos before Queen Of the Murder Scene was recorded.
Anyway, Pau wasn’t a big fan of that because the chord just sat there without any resolution. It didn’t flow…so Ale came up with that run on the bass that brings them back down to the next line (“Needles piercing through my brain…”).
That’s the family magic. There are no egos involved. Pau willingly gave up that fill because Ale came up with something better. They literally finish each other’s sentences, musically and otherwise.

Ale is a rock. I think it was in the GnR Monterrey vlog, pre-show Pau is freaking out and Ale's like "It's just another show, it's just another show". And then when she falls down in the first number opening for Muse, she barely misses a beat and was laughing about it afterwards. They are all consumate performers, but she's unflappable.
The girls are so much "in character" on stage. If you ever watched any of their instagram, reels or goofy home life type posts, they are such sweet, shyish young "normal" ladies. On stage they turn into rock n roll beasts!!!!
Dull Knives was, is and always will be a TWA favorite!
Ale is certainly taking that bass for a walk. She is incredible in her sound construction.

They are one of the best power trio out there right now.
The energy is amazing, but remember, this little aerobic workout is non-stop, for almost 2 hours at just below 7500 ft altitude. Not once does anyone appear short of breath. As far as the 3 piece concept, this is a single organic unit playing 3 instruments. If anyone changes something, the other 2 follow & adjust on instinct. The layering & the shear power reminds me of Kansas.
A few seconds before Dany launches into the song (where you started the video), she teases the song by firing off a chord, which gets the audience fired up because they know what song they are about to hear!
We will be here for the chaos.

I think this was written by Pau and scored by Danny and Pau but I am pretty sure most of the sound of the band is in Pau's head and Danny and Ale have to reign her in which makes their sound very good and consistent. I have been a session artist for over four decades now and I have never seen a band that at such a young age has had a clearer vision of where they want to go. I think but I am not sure they are building there sound slowly to avoid blowing their load (for lack of a better phrase) at a very young age. I hope they get off the road and get back into writing their own music again. Absolutely some of the best young musicians I have ever heard.
They are actually in the studio right now recording. Their new material is going to be experamental as they had been collaborating with various artists this past late winter. Pau said while they were in Europe that all the songs are written. She also said this album was going to be fun. I believe songs are going to have the feel that MORE does and maybe a little punkier with the likes of some of the other bands they were in sessions with.
Ale's bass line is insane.
Dany and Pau glide into harmonies so seamlessly.

This is early in the show, there is an interval that features Breath, and then the second part of the show they are dressed in white.
Until this performance, the one in the cave for (DE)Tour was the definitive performance of this song. For many years this was their show-off song when they needed to demonstrate what they can do. DPA said that they tried to make it longer and all efforts resulted in nothing good. So they said if you want it longer, play it again.
Dull Knives can't be longer. No one would survive. I've called it lightning in a bottle, but it's really lightning in the room with Dany weilding rhe bolt. And that one beat rest in the middle is like that flash of lightning you see out the window and your like "What? Whoa...." and then the thunder comes. TW executes breaks like no other and this is the premier version. Probably the best single beat rest in rock and roll.
The chat was wild. There were 3100 people there at one point, maybe more. And, yeah, I saw a lot of reactors were there. I was late to the event because I had a business meeting that ran over, but I have seen the recording of the full concert several times since it was posted in Patreon. What an amazing show from start to finish. The editing on the video is fantastic, splicing in some fan cam style shots here and there as well as footage from both the Teatro shows in some places. Quite a production effort, I'm sure. They had multiple 8K cams and operators around stage and down front plus some stationary cams set up strategically to get shots of each of the ladies, and a cam operator or two down front and one out in the venue. So I bet there was between the two shows well over a hundred hours or footage to scrub through and match up with the audio tracks they took from the sound mixer board for both shows. And I love the intro and outro footage. This was a special event for certain, their largest headliner shows to date. But the rumors are out that the show at the Pepsi Center in October will also be recorded in a similar fashion. Maybe some new songs in the mix?

Jess… absolutely awesome reaction. You really hit on points that kind of expose the magic of Dany, Pau and Ale. The way Ale’s bass takes ‘lead’ to finish Dany’s guitar, the magic of Dany’s voice and intonation/stylings, those INCREDIBLE 3 part harmonies. Ale’s bass line is so frickin awesome! Then the outro…I LOVE the lead guitar track that accompanies Dany at the end of Dull Knives. Those walks blew my mind when I first heard Dull Knives. Sometimes it is more up in the mix, sometimes it’s buried. It doesn’t matter. The could play this unplugged and it would ROCK! They wrote this AS KIDS! What in the hell? It is a more beautiful world because DPA write music!
Pau and Dany did a piano performance as a Patreon benefit at the time. It has a strong Beethoven feel to me.

Speaking of tracks and going without, they can and have played without them. I was front row at Pointfest 2022, and Pau's laptop took a dump in the very beginning. They did the set list without it, and you couldn't tell. If you didn't know about it, you never would have been the wiser.
They have very little tracks for the music on it, and mainly use it for the click tracks that Pau starts and stops every song for with her pedals. They was just as tight without the clicks, as they was with them. Over 10 years working hard together, and being siblings that practice & perform nonstop does have it's advantages.
Love on the outro... Ale is a constant 1-2-3-4-5 1-2-3-4-5 and so on..... I see so many Bass players just throwing their fingers on hyper speed to match to what something like what Dany and Pau are doing at the time... Awesomeness !
No doubt hands down, you post the absolute BEST reactions to The Warning every time! It's so obvious that you truly "get them" in every way and so eloquently get that message across to all of us out here who adore these three young ladies as much as you do. I very much like Ale's casual attitude on stage that you mention. That's a product of this tour. When they started out, she was very static and still (which makes sense, considering the age then) then she went through this almost forced-looking over the top movement, the ever same constant crouching and lurking, almost formulaic. It feels like she finally found her own groove on that stage now and it actually looks like she enjoys herself more.
I watched the whole concert last night cranked on my headphones and a swear my chair was vibrating from Pau's drums

This was THE song. When I heard it for the first time (performance from the Cave, which you also mentioned), I just knew I found new love. Still going strong, if not even stronger every time they release anything new.
Yes, they occasionally do use a guitar backing track for small effects in live performances. Dany can only do so much instrumentally while handling lead vocals and her guitar processor does have limitations.
I think it’s quite impressive how little they rely on backing tracks to fill out their sound considering how much sound they produce live.
A majority of their backing tracks seem to be piano parts that they use in some older songs since they don’t tour with keyboards anymore and their sound effects like you mentioned.
I’m curious if you’ve seen the IG video where Dany goes into how her (at the time Helix Line 6) guitar processor works.
It was especially interesting for those of us who are not musically inclined but may not be as much for those who are.
I’ve always felt that Dany has the most restrictions on her musicality due to her lead vocalist role.

Yes, tracks. The bass and drums together is a signature of The Warning. They consciously created that sound.

Imo I'd prefer if you watched beforehand and gather your thoughts, then provide us with your analysis over a first reaction.
We've all heard this song, you've heard this song. I truly value your analytical technical insights because it helps me view them on a different light and appreciate aspects that I've never thought of since Im not a musician.

Part of what the fair use is judged on is how much of the content I use, and in how long of segments. So I try and break it up based on the recommended times by TH-cam
But to address this, and your feedback, I could offer a reaction as well as a time to go through the parts I talked about or may have missed.

Oh, sorry if I wasnt clear. This format if fine, you dont need to change your edits or change anything at all. What you do is great and you do a great job at pausing to explain. My thoughts were keep everything the same just pre-watch and pause to explain where you have insights. Basically what you just did but pre-watched. Unless that’s more work which I understand.
But if you wanted to give it the Don treatment it would also be awesome!

I like your enthusiasm for the music and your technical knowledge even though I don't understand it because I'm no musician. The idea of a group of reactors viewing whole show is great. What would be cool is to have the whole group interview the band to answer some of your questions about tracks, pedals, and tuning.

Pau sings in the background but its more like a whisper which is pretty cool. This song to me is really where Ale shines cuz shes is carrying so much.
Pau sings along whatever ... drum solos, as she's hitting the drums she's like mouthing bam bam bam ! .... such an incredible trio ❤
Don't forget "Ashlenamusic" New to "The Sisters" but dove in head first, and has even been to a concert.. Madly in love with "The Warning" I'm sure she would love to part of it.

They (almost?) always play this in headlining sets, but not necessarily when opening (QoTMS and Dust to Dust seem to be more common in that setting). Not sure why, other than that those are also standout songs and they want to play mostly current music.
This was never their closer. Prior to Mayday/Error, they closed with Survive and now they close with Evolve. This was around the middle of the first half of the show (when they were wearing black); in Boston, it was right around the middle of the set. It's a bit short to be a good closer.
Jesse it is no wonder that the crowd went crazy for these girls, what a performance. Dany just attacks the lyrics and definately does not take any prisoners.Thx.

⚡✌️🤘⚠️⚡Hey Boss, yeah this is one of those tracks where Pau does a Whisper along with Dany, and usually her mic volume isn't up enough to really catch it at live shows, but if you hear it , listen for it especially on the record, can hear it. I think Pau does that and her Low vocal backings a lot and most people don't even realize it as she does mouth along too but you'd be surprised that she's laying down a low register/whisper. Love all your reactions! Individual clips first before whole concert would be great, although I'll be here either way. Have a Good one ! ✌️🤘⚠️⚡

For a reason or another, Dull Knives is one on the top of my list of tops. The version from the Warning Cave for deTour is worth of checking out too (for those who are not familiar with it already)
I really like this, it's one of my 50 favorites by The Warning.. I would really like them to make a enhanced/ longer version, for the times when they play it alone, without the Murder scene story... know what I mean? TWA🤟🎶☮️
In one of the documentaries, they say that each one of them is involved in every note of their songs. I'm sure that would apply to Dull Knives which is older (QOTMS).

The only thing that would have made this set list *even more perfect* would have been if they had included P.S.Y.C.H.O.T.I.C.! That song in this setting with that lighting, that crowd and that atmosphere would have boggled the senses! 🤪
But the craziest thing is they wrote this in their mid to early teens!!! Ale wasn't even a teen yet actually. Mind blowing!!

BACKING TRACKS. Of couse it's totally fine to use them and they arrange them masterfully!!
At the end there was definitely a second guitar on the outro.
They use a lot of backing tracks (much more than people usually notice) but it's never too much, mostly subtle things like little sound effects and embellishments on the back...just now and then a more noticeable rythm guitar comp (or keys) but still never feels it's too much. Most people not even notice.
WITHOUT BACKING TRACKS... of course they can play w/o tracks and have done it many many times (they said so).
Right now on the top of my head I recall:

This very song sounds great w/o tracks, click or stems. There's a video here on YT, low quality (but maybe still reactable). Search for "The Warning live at 'El Chopo' CDMX", very raw, small drumset w just 2 cymbals... (looked to me that other bands were super impressed...lol).
Sounded killer!!! ...just the same!!!
==> They also played Unmendable at "El Chopo", did incredibly good but the video is very very low quality (still super fun)... Drummers looked impressed by Pau, especially the outro.

==> Evolve. I also remember once that electricity went out for just a moment (till the back up source took over, I think) in the middle of the song and they just finished it out just like nothing. I don't remember the date, it was like march 2022 or so on tour.
Right now I can't recall any other in full setting but there's many many on semi-accoustic settings.
MY OPINION ON BACKING TRACKS. As a musician I think it is (and should be) a consensus that it's totally fine to use them honestly BUT totally WRONG to just FAKE that you're playing or lipsynch, it has to be an addition to what you're already playing.
I hate auto tune but I think if that if it's said openly it can be acceptable, otherwise i think it's dishonest.
That's the key...it has to be honest.
Obviously for more electronic genres is completely different.
There's preferences and inclinations. Personally, whilst I'm totally fine with BT, really don't like when it's too much, overwhelming or relying too much on them.
I'm somewhat to the "raw" side, (I also love the organic approach), I care about musicianship but especially about "true live energy"!!!
Live has to be and feel LIVE, add all the b tracks you want but play live and carry the song with real instruments and voices.

To me it's very important that rock bands de able to play without any computer, tracks, clicks or anything if sth goes wrong or where just there's not much equipment. I value this a lot.

Yeah, there is a second guitar in the outro in the click an octave lower. "Dull Knives" is song #7 in the first half of the concert. They wear black outfits in the first half of the concert and change to their white outfits for the second half of the concert during a short intermission when "Breathe" is played over the speakers for the crowd.
I would say wait to do live reactions to the singles you haven't yet, but then you may not be able to pause as you like and explain stuff. So, I say do them now before a live chat.
Is that second guitar actually a track, or a guitar effect? I know Dany does a lot of that.
