    Builders tip; Paint the props yellow, or whatever the tip color is, then mask the tips before painting the black on the blades, much easier than getting the yellow to cover the black.

    Great music selection. Really cool build. My dad was in the USAF for 13 years. Vietnam 🇻🇳 vet. He was a radio operator. He’s going to be with my mom soon due to lung cancer. Not looking forward to the loss. Life does carry on though.

    I’m an unabashed child of the 50’s when this model was one of the best! I vividly remember spirited debates between the members of Den 6, Pack 1 Conimicut, Cub Scouts of America over the merits of the “Dragon Plane” versus the Monogram B-25. The consensus was that the Revell plane was better due to the trainable gun mounts and the picture on the box. Thanks to Atlantis for bringing these kits back and thanks to you for a classic build!

    HEADLINE - under TWENTY BUCKS ! ! You could buy Five (for less than one average 1/72 "upscaled" kit would be). With 5 you could hang them from the ceiling on fishing line and duplicate the lead flight of Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo - Go Jimmie Doolittle. Oh, and YOUR finish of this is again wonderful. You truly are good.
    Thank you for sharing - REALLY...

    Hi Guy...I have to give you credit pal!! You never find fault with any model ..made by any brand lol. I built this Revell model in 1960 …. I'm 71 now... and am working on Revells " BLACK PEARL" now....which I must have gotten a lemon because this almost kissed the wall !! I'm having to glue and putty almost everything. Back to the B-25 B model.. try the J model. A lot nicer.

      Every single kit made has 'faults'. I show the parts, I show the fit so that everyone can see for themselves. I just don't lament about it like so many others do.
      I build it up and have fun. :)

    Hi Chris, I've been watch your TH-cam channel for quite a while now. I went back to view your older reviews and builds and I am very amazed at how quick and thorough you are in your reviews. It is very refreshing to see and hear someone say do it your way and have fun building it your way.
    My dad got me involve when I was about 8 years old...many decades ago. I think back about it since he has passed about 4 years ago. My first build was a Navy Corsair I think 1/32 scale. Only problem I had when I finished, I had the main wings backward. He said it was a good first time, but when he noticed the wings, he said (with a smile)you know it will be difficult for pilot to fly the plane with wings being backwards and laughed. He asked if I want to leave it that way since it was my first time or he could show me how to fix it if I wanted him to. I asked if him if could show me how to make it right. He later showed me how to fix it without destroying the plane. one of my best memories with my dad.

      That's what we called Box Scale, Revell boxes were mostly one size so they would scale the model to fit the box. It just happened to be 1/64. That's cool nowadays because there are tons of die-cast vehicles in 1/64 scale so there are endless possibilities for small dioramas.

    When I was a kid building models I liked the Lindberg kits as most of them had those cool stands to display the airplane on. That was the good ole days. Nowadays I resorted to making my own stands from clear acrylic from Tap Plastics, they work great. Built this Revell kit when I was a kid.Why 1/64 scale? That's called box scale as that size fit into the box. That's how they did it back then with airplane kits.

    I built that Revell B-25B kit in high school. I liked the flexible gun blisters, so mine functioned. My Mitchell was done up as the Marine version, a PBJ-1D. With high-and-tight Light Gull Grey on the undersurface, carried up the sides, and Intermediate Non-Specular Sea Blue higher up on the fuselage. Anti-glare Dark Sea Blue patches on the inboard engine nacelles, Sea Blue on the upper wings and top of fuselage. The light blue was also carried on the sides of both vertical stabilizers. Built LDG down, I used a .380 round as a nose weight. The drop tank from some unlucky 1/72 fighter was cannibalised for a starboard wing RADAR pod, mounted midway forward of the leading edge, between wing tip and nacelle. Vivid red-outlines US white-winged national recognition markings, as per 1943 regulations
    Only the Nose Gunner survived. Some years later, I forgot about the model and put it up at my parents house. While I was overseas my kid nephews got into my stuff and thrashed it. The Gunner, a Top Turret Blister, and some 2-out-of -3 bladed props are all that's left of my PBJ-1D.
    Your build brought me back a long ways, Great Job. I liked your adherence to Old School policy.

    It looks fantastic! To show you how old I am I built the original issue with the Doolittle Raider's marking only and the box art showing the B-25 taking off from the carrier. It was a fun build then and surprisingly the fit of most older kits was better than they are today. hanks for sharing this.

    Hello Chris, I scored today, got my B-25 and the H-25 helicopter. Went to hobby lobby with coupon and they had Testors camo spray cans all colors on closeout, $1.49 per can, I bought them all, one Model master spray can 92 cents and the biggest deal was a can of Testors frosted glass .21 cents, has a ton of uses for dioramas. Going to make the Doolittle Raiders version and a yellow rescue helicopter, 1/48 scale so fits right in. I'm still working on my C-600 roll back, going to paint the frame now.

    The bottom gun turret was metal completely.Operated with a periscope. I hate saying it because nothing you do is even close to negativity. It is old but, gives a good static display of a cool looking plane. Super base though. Worth buying the kit just to get that base. Atlantis should do that base to sell separately. It is nice & high. Nice review. A favorite subject. I love viewing your work. Most of the builds are just awesome.

    Nice... you do a lot of building... one suggestion on this one would have been to paint the canopy framing with the fuselage color... the interior of the frames was interior / chromate green, but the exterior was fuselage color... it's pretty common on external framing to paint the interior color first, then the exterior color, so you if you can see inside the glass it's the right color inside, and on the outside, and it requires no more masking.... on this one you could paint the interior framing fuselage exterior color, then interior color.... just a little nitpick, but one that might be helpful.... you have fun, that's the main thing.... keep 'em coming... !

    Really awesome build Chris! Way to bring to life an older kit that many of us had no idea even existed! Nice small compact bookshelf size, and it didn't look like it took that long to assemble! As a side note, if you build the Doolittle raider version, leave off the guns as the real ships didn't carry them to Japan, they were ditched to save weight so the planes could get off the carrier deck! :) Thanks also for the sea chanty music, it makes a Navy man like me swell with pride! Love the pure nostalgia clear stand, I remember those from my Revell kits of the early 60s. In one way it's a shame it's 1/64 because it will look odd displayed with other aircraft. But displayed seperately, like on a desk or in an office it will look great. Also it is marvellous for teaching beginners how to build aircraft. Well done Atlantis Models you get an 11/10 from me for that re-pop.

    This kit is roughly equivalent to S-gauge for model trains. One could place a late 1940s civilian passenger plane version somewhere in such a display.

    • @HootOwl513
      @HootOwl513 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Point of Information, Friend. The B-25B model, as Col. Doolittle's group used, originally
      did have a remote Twin .50 belly turret. It had no plexiglass, but a flat reflex viewer behind armor glass plate and was retractable and remotely operated. To save weight it was deleted on the Tokyo Mission. A broomstick in the clear tail cone acted as a decoy .50. With the J- model, North American moved the twin .50 mount forward, behind the cockpit, and added a manned twin .50 tail gun. The later type [subject of the Monagram B-25] deleted the dorsal turret. B-25Js had single .50 mounts on each side of the rear fuselage, like the B-17s.

    Great work on the old vintage b25. I am working on the revell 1/28 scale Sopwith camel. I sprayed the upper and lower wings in the correct colors by using Rust-Oleum 2x paints and let dry for about a week, then applied the decals, but when I sprayed the matte clear coat it cracked the paint. Any idea as to why it did that?.

    Beautiful! Kinda sad to see that the new Revell dissed it out 'cuz it's an old kit. I mean, it's clean, so, the molds must have been well kept, therefore, there was more or less of a reason to sell it IMO.
    Just a question like this. If you had put the Tamiya black liner thing behind the green of your gel pen, would've it have darken the green color?
    And I love Modelmaster's zinc cromate color. I wish I could find a green close to that color in spray paint to paint some cars that color.

    • @hpiguy
      @hpiguy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The panel liner would have just ran around the edges of the raised lines. You could back it with a black marker but I wanted it green on both sides.

    Dad use to say a B25 idling sounds like somebody dumped a 5 gallon bucket of nuts and bolts into a washing machine. I like the de-ice boots(shouldn't there be black strips on the leading edges of the prop blades?) and being a prop mechanic i would have to detail the props a little better( domes would have to be silver, hubs aluminum, orange oval simulating the ham stam sticker) but nice build looks like it was fun to do

      My answer is do not worry about color codes. I don't.
      Pick colors that look similar and go with that. The craft stores have massive paint selections, you'll find stuff that looks the part.
      Enjoy the hobby and don't stress matching others or perfect color codes.

      BUT if you're the type of modeler that needs to know exact variants and minute details you'll want to grab a more modern kit as this is a 50+ year old kit and won't meet your exacting requirements.

      @@hpiguy , some of the projects I envision would be in-flight, the landing gear up, the propellers turning, a full crew at their stations. I would place in sequence models in descending scales for a forced-perspective airborne diorama. I know a way to hide from view the stand, borrowing from motion picture production the concept and device of the Chapman crane.
      For example, in the joint U.S. Navy-USAAF Tokyo Raid of April 1942, a 1:48th-scale kit of the B-25B (likely Accurate Miniatures), this Revell kit, a 1:72nd-scale kit, amongst others. And maybe that new 1:32nd-scale later variant, if reworking it is possible.
      This old Revell model looks like it could serve as a -B with little effort. The crew I could make from S-gauge model railroad figurines.
