I saw them in Concert in San Francisco in 1971, they were so loud my ears ached for a week! But it was worth it. I googled loudest band and got this: 1972. Deep Purple was recognised by The Guinness Book of World Records as the "globe's loudest band" for a concert at the London Rainbow Theatre, during which the sound reached 117 dB and three members of the audience fell unconscious.

Nice reaction, thanks! Deep Purple - in this formation, mark II - has Ian Gillan on vocals, and for me he is the voice of DP. Ritchie Blackmore is a monster playing guitar, Ian Paice killing drums, Jon Lord showing everything on hammond organ and the precision of Roger Glover on bass... so, all then are brilliant. It is a band that deserves more reactions, since - as Led Zeppelin - they have so different kind of songs and there is a big catalogue to explore. A good start would be listen to songs from the album Made in Japan or Deep Purple in Rock. Songs as Smoke on the Water, Highway Star, Lazy, Perfect Strangers, and so go on.. . will make you "travel", i'm sure! .

This is one of my all time favorite rock songs, and in my opinion one of the most epic performances in the history of rock music. Just like millions of others, I'm also amazed at their individual talents, and how well they play together. The instrumentation and vocals fit together like a hand in a well fitting glove. No gimmicks, no auto tune, just pure greatness. Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin once said of Richie Blackmore, "when it comes to improvisation in a live arena, I couldn't touch that guy." Since I started listening to your channel, I was hoping you would one day react to this song. Today I got my wish, and I your enjoyed reaction a lot. I like your 1 to 100 analogy when talking about the song, and the way you described the talent of each member of the band. If you react to more Deep Purple, I would recommend starting with Smoke On The Water because it has one of the most iconic guitar riffs in rock history.

Ritchie Blackmore, the guitarist here, did go on to create the group Rainbow, so you should have a listen to them! Unlike most of the old hard-core fans of Ritchie Blackmore's hard-rock groups, I really love his new career with Blackmore's Night! That's with his wife Candice Night, maybe because I just love this old-style music, and I can understand why he wants to go in this direction now!

Hi there! Deep Purple Machine Head was the very first rock album that I bought as a young teen, so they hold a special place in my memories. That being said, how about a reaction to the man that Deep Purple wanted to bring in to replace Ritchie Blackmore when he departed the group, the legendary Rory Gallagher? Rory was an incredible blues/rock multi-instrumentalist best known for his searing guitar work. Try checking out "Tattoo'd Lady" live at Rockpalast (1977) for an introduction to his amazing skills. You won't regret going down this rabbit hole! Thanks.

It was a TV studio audience instructed to sit there like that so they wouldn’t interfere with the TV cameras. TV cameras back then were these enormous things that required a crew of two three for each one to manage the running the camera, moving the rig around, and managing the thick cables the cameras required. Then there were the people managing the ungainly studio Mike rigs for the filming.

  • @VinE83656

Ian Gillan the singer was the voice of Jesus on the album for the Broadway show Jesus Christ Superstar. Deep Purple has gone through several lineups from the 1960s right through today. This is the most successful lineup and known as the MK II lineup. Today, only the drummer remains as an original member and today's lineup does include the singer and the bass player who were not original members but were members of the MK II lineup. The guitarist has moved on and now plays Renaissance style rock music with his wife as the vocalist in the band Blackmore's Night (Ritchie Blackmore and Candice Night). I recommend their bigges hit Smoke on the Water next and from their probably Highway Star, Hush or Perfect Strangers (a 1980s song when this lineup reunited).

Jon Lord is the organ player, sadly passed away too quickly. Ritchie blackmore was the guitarist and considered one of the best amongst his peers and fans alike. Ian Paice is my favorite member. From the start to the present day, the only original player to have performed on every track and in every live performance. A double Hall of Famer. Sadly, Ian Gillan should not be performing anymore (and should've stepped back after Perfect Strangers), but in his heyday, he was glorious. Love me some Roger Glover and he still plays just as brilliantly now as in the old days.

One thing to keep in mind, just following that early organ moment before two minutes have passed: Unlike the majority of today's "musicians", these guys actually ARE musicians! The average pop-star/hiphopper will have problems even knowing who Elvis Presley or the Beatles were, much less Mozart and Beethoven! So I'm very happy that you are looking at any of these musicians who were mostly active even before I was born (I'm 56 by now...).

Deep Purple were 1st Class , but young, musicians before they formed the " glam " band that developed into heavy and hard rock.
Singer Ian Gillan was the exception.....not a trained singer , but had a natural talent that improved with age.
The 40 yo Ian Gillan was a much better singer than this young one.
Jon Lord on keys is a legend......a competent and highly skilled pipe organ player who could play anything on a Hammond organ.
Ian Paice on drums was originally into jazz drumming and used a very basic jazz drum kit... . But he could do everything on that basic kit that other legends did on massive drum kits.
Whatever Neil Peart did on his massive kit bigger than many stages, Ian could do BETTER on his simple beginners set up.
This performance is a legendary ROCK performance.
Next you should do the 1971 live performance of Chicago, from the Tanglewood festival.
25 or 6 to 4, live from Tanglewood.
Then a cover of Wild Thing by Australian legends, Cold Chisel.
Live from their 1983 good bye tour titled The Last Stand.
This is the wildest most feral rock performance ever.
If you like the above, then you should try the live version of Hey Hey My My ( rock n roll will never die ) by Neil Young with Crazy Horse.
Forget Neil's image as a folk and country singer......first he was a rock guitarist and always kept 2 different careers at the one time.
The radio friendly career writing and singer pop, country and folk songs, and his hard / heavy rock career for live concerts with Crazy Horse.

Chances were back then that somebody would be blasting Deep Purple’s “Highway Star,” on their 8 track while driving near you on the road, whenever you were driving somewhere. Check that one out.

All masters at their instruments, Deep Purple is such a great group. Jon Lord is one of the best ever and Ritchie Blackmore is god level for guitarists. Make sure you check out Ritchie's next band called Rainbow. The song "Stargazer" is a must listen. Highly recommend live songs from Rainbow's 1977 Munich concert. Songs "Mistreated" and "Catch the Rainbow" are fantastic.

The lead singer, Ian Gillan was the first star in the musical "Jesus Christ, Super Star" !! He told his mates after the "Live in Japan 1972" album that he had to stop singing this song in concert, because it was damaging his voice. He still does perform this song , but it's a more subdued version. Love Deep Purple !!

Yes indeed, what a performance! Deep Purple stands right next to Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath as the bands that had the most influence on all hard rock and heavy metal that came after. For more Live Deep Purple, do the great tune You Fool No One from their epic performance at the 1974 California Jam. That entire concert is worth a listen. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶

I love you for watching this one. They were my first concert I went to. I couldn't hear for 2 days afterwards. Have to tell you story. I was in Navy 1990 and was in Singapore went scuba diving during the day then went to see them play live. Best day of my life. Space Truckin is another great song.

Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, and Led Zeppelin Were called the unholy trio of rock back in the late 60's to early 70's. The reason for this is they introduced the genre of hard rock which later became Heavy Metal. As for this song it is one of my favourites of theirs.

Ian Gillian did one (very underrated) album with Black Sabbath. Ozzy said that he was the best singer next to him that Sabbath ever had. The album is called "Born Again" and you should hear title song or "Trashed", two great songs where Ian shines!

Perhaps their most famous song is 'Smoke on the Water' - it's a simpler song (in terms of meaning) but the opening guitar riff is utterly iconic.

This footage although from 1970, is from a VHS tape first released in 1990/91 called Deep Purple- Doing their thing. Frustratingly edited to 20 minutes or so. The DVD of this is included with the double cd Live in Stockholm 1970.
