The newer reg helmets and covers have velcro slates on them, for NVG counterweights/IR sensors etc, but some in the initial run out had side slates for patches and TRFs etc. Seen quite a few bods from 23 para eng. & 24 cmdo eng. do a similar thing, along with infanteers
