Yeah, that was john’s elegant way of saying “I would not vote for him” which is good cause he doesn’t even lead his own corporations right.
I'd imagine if Hank became President of the United States he'd still manage to put out a vlogbrothers video every Friday.

I think someone should have tried to trick Donald Trump into adopting this policy in 2017 and convincing him that Democrats would oppose it. I suspect that his ego and the fact that he self-identifies as a "businessman" would have made him vulnerable to such a plot.

John's endorsement at the end feels like the breaking of a floodgate that we nerdfighters quietly, politely did not cross. That said, I would hope that Hank would run for a local office first. One of the main problems with the US's political culture is an obsession over only the most visible politicians, ignoring the vast and overall more important layers of local governments and bureaucracies.

I know it's like a truism that local and state politics are vastly overlooked, especially by the left, but have you ever actually tried to engage with those systems of government? Because I have. And it's immensely frustrating, feels entirely ineffectual, and is controlled just as much by entrenched interests as national government. Except instead of Mitch McConnel, who I at least respect as a savvy politician, it's some idiot who has enough money to run for local office and do nothing else.

This feels like the best kind of Brotherly Prank where John gets screwed over by his brother's forgetfulness, so he retaliates by flooding Hank with all the adoration of Nerd Fighteria and the sudden pressure of having to respond to the idea of "Hank Green, 2028"
I was actually thinking about this a few weeks ago, and considering whether I'd vote for you, John. I decided no, I would not put that kind of overwhelming pressure on such a genuine, deep thinking, occasionally troubled man. You are perfect right where you are - raising money for charity, making awesome content, and generally decreasing world suck. Now Hank on the other hand... I would vote for Hank. I mean, I know he already has a lot on his plate, too. But think of all the IDEAS!! 💡💡💡 Though then we'd need to make a Secretary of Striking Down Bad Ideas. 🤔
I'd vote for Hank, but I think he'd need Muscle Hank & a few Nerdfighters to get elected to Congress before he could be effective. Now, who would make a great Vice President for Hank?
There's a scene in one of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy books where they meet the true power behind the throne of the galaxy and that's how I envision the appropriate role of John Green in running our country. Hank I think is more of a Zaphod Beeblebrox (kind of) but I'd vote for him.

An excellent pseudo thoughts from places video. Honestly sometimes it just nice to hear John speak. His cadence is so relaxing and his tone is always so earnest and thoughtful. I regularly go back and rewatch thoughts from places videos these days because they provide me with a sense of "home." Knowing that I am not alone in my frequent introspection is always a comfort.

I also highly recommend The Anthropocene Reviewed audiobook....first, obviously, listen to the whole book, it's very excellent. But then, it's really great to put on at bedtime or when you're stressed or when you just need pleasant noise while you're working.

My thoughts while in a place: I've just made the most egregious, but unregretted error of eating almost all of my salsa using half of my burrito. It was delicious and I will pay for it later with the other half of un-salsified burrito.

I think that has grown as adults. John has admitted that he wasn’t the nicest to Hank while growing up and that they were never very close.
There are videos from a few years ago with their parents where they talk a bit about this topic, if I'm not mistaken
Maybe their parents should write a parenting book, I’d read it.

I keep forgetting that he's Canadian.
While I do believe Hank would make a great president, the last few election cycles have shown us that the work that needs to be done is almost never done in the Oval Office. The qualities that would make Hank an exceptional president are the same qualities that ensure he’d never run in the first place. There’s too much work to do.
Honestly, it doesn't seem crazy to imagine Hank could theoretically win a Senate race in Montana and that could be a big deal.
Tbf, there's a lot of amazing stuff joe biden could do as president and he's just... deciding not to.
But hey, how nice would it be to have people like Hank in EVERY elected/appointed public position of power/representation AROUND THE WORLD?

@@raquelalmeida9002 As much as I agree replacing all public officials with Hanks would be an improvement, I don't think we should underestimate how hard most of these problems are. And there are a lot of extremely competent people in many (not all) of these positions right now that haven't solved them for some reason or another. And I think Hank would be the first person to agree with this.
As a non American who lives in a country without a president, I feel that you guys may be better off without a president. One guy with that much power can't do enough and could be dangerous. (Although being honest I think you guys would be much better with a unicameral parliament too but that probably won't happen)

When you are rich ( like wealthy rich with a big W not just a bit of money) and go to a seated dinner party you have staff that preps you extensively on who you are sitting by and what they do etc
Obviously I can't know all of the circumstances of John's vacation, but it pleases me immensely that he did not bring along a nice camera while visiting a tropical paradise, but he did ensure to bring a nice microphone. There are decisions and motivations here that I am not privy to, and I am sure they are fascinating because it is one of the Green brothers.
Honestly, I love this type of video 😂 especially going from Hank's beautiful philosophical video to this which feels like a fun story a friend is telling you whilst you hang out ❤️

He continues surprise me with his knowledge and involvement in internet culture and subcultures. Although online/modern education is something he loves so I guess I shouldn't be too surprised.

The amendment does not open it up to everyone, just allows people born in Canada to be president.

It's unfortunate that's even asked as a question; This is the kind of a person who is regularly required to amend their public image so we don't know who they are, we only know a version of them. A question I often consider about people is "who are you when you're at home?" and when that home is 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue its importance becomes even more valid. And for people who say we don't know politicians, we know they have a history of public service which is, you know, public. Or in some cases, a history of disservice which somehow still doesn't work against them, we really should look into that some day...
This is true, and it's something I try to consider when determining who I want to represent me, but that's also true of anybody running for office, we only know the part of them that they cultivate as their public persona
I would listen to “Cool Sounds With John Green.” I feel like it would be a little like “The Empty Bowl” - really chill and relaxing and great to listen to at bedtime.
I dunno, after watching Obama in the role, it does seem like the hardest job in the world. Being responsible for choosing between terrible options and being blamed for things that are completely outside one’s control… Hank would nail the ethics and communication aspects though. I wouldn’t wish the job on anyone I care about, unfortunately.

I've always said I found the green brothers to be so rational and passionate and just. Kind. that I would trust them to run a country! and the fact that they would never even consider doing so is, as john said, one of their character assets

Every so often I shake my head as if waking from a deep deep sleep, when I suddenly recall that Ryan Reynolds was on the pod.... It was a real thing that actually happened, not just a vivid dream I once had. Thanks for reminding me once again, John.
I still remember Ryan Reynolds as his character on the Canadian children's show "The Odyssey" which depicted a world in which no one is older than 15. He played Macro, the despotic leader in control. But they memory is a good example of how our impressions of people, especially celebrities who we see in such a narrow light, can be inaccurate. Ryan Reynolds is no more a young despot than I am the character I played in our middle school 's production of the Christmas Carol. This video is a good chance for us to reflect on the general inaccuracies in our perceptions

I'm so happy you provided this perspective on famous people. I have never wanted to be famous or an internet personality for exactly that "middle school people are watching me" feeling. I've never been famous but I try to make sure people know how hard it is and that they are people too, and the stress of almost always being perceived is extremely stressful. Even if you are just a small internet personality that's still more people perceiving you than would be just living life.

Being familiar with vlog brothers doesn't necessarily mean he's a nerd fighter, but if he is then that would certainly be a surprise
I think watching so many of the videos that he can discuss them intelligently with the creator makes him at least sympathetic.
If he had paid attention to the videos he wouldn't go to such lengths to squash efforts at creating affordable public transportation, and wouldn't stand the worker exploitation in the overseas mines he relies on for his gratuitous, and selfishly hoarded, wealth. He fails to imagine those he hurts Complexly.
Um actually, Nerdfighters definitionally have nothing to do with vlogbrothers and must be made entirely out of awesome, and...(gestures broadly)

Does math - Assuming one term only, Mayor for 4 years, state rep for 2 years (or senator for 4), Governor for 4 years, Fed Senator for 4 years, that is 18 (or 20) years in politics putting Hank around 63 when leaving the Oval after only one term or around 67 with a two term presidency.
