- In this weeks decluttering video I’ll be tackling most of my master bedroom. I’ll be decluttering the dresser top, my dresser drawers, the night stand top and all the built in drawers on my bed.
I’m getting my bedroom and master bathroom ready to have the wallpaper removed and the rooms painted for a fresh look. Im so darn excited about it.
My bedroom is probably the room in my house that has the least amount of clutter but it definitely has enough to need a good declutter and some cleaning.

First, thank you for being so transparent! Not everyone would allow strangers into their bedroom. I wash my sheets every Sunday, as well. It feels amazing to get into sheets that smell and feel so good. I spray bath & body works room spray in between the sheets and blankets-smells so awesome!🌻

I've been working on my decluttering for about 3 years now. After my youngest daughter moved out to college I started being able to get more done. With 3 schedules that affected when I can vacuum, get trash out or use the 1 car for the house and my health issues it has not been a quick process. Sometimes I just get 1 thing moved to where it needs to be used.
But. I don't give up. Each day I try to do something.
I too started a weight loss journey last June. I’m 60+ pounds down. I’ve learned some behavior modifications. I kept one shirt to remind me of where I was and how far I’ve come. I am one year from retirement and wanted to enjoy it. I do regret all the years I skipped out of photos with my kids because I was embarrassed of myself and how I looked. I agree, I would never judge others. It’s not easy but small steps. 😉. I love love your cash envelope system. We’re in the home stretch of this season of life and I want set us up for success. I have spent this weekend binge watching your channel. Love it!
I love that you wash the bedding, then your husband makes the bed! Great video, but that was the icing on the cake! I'm so happy to hear of the sweet things that spouses do for each other. Mine is a bit challenged since his stroke 10 years ago, every once in a while he surprises me and it blesses my heart. I pray for the energy you have to keep on keeping on! Thank you!
I am binge watching decluttering and budgeting videos because I need the motivation to do the same for my own home. Thank you for inspiring us. I agree with the saying tiny efforts adds up to massive results. Bit by bits it adds up and by the time you knew you will be done cleaning and decluttering.

I have the same vacuum. It’s great for a quick clean. My husband helps me make the bed. He also washes the vacuum when I use it and puts it outside to dry. Your doing a great job.
I recently went from 230 to 213 (more to go) for health reasons. I was quite content at my heavy weight, but my arthritis was so impacted. Decluttering my closet this month and getting rid of a ton of things I've kept and not worn in years.
I love watching you declutter. So inspiring! I had the same plastic makeup holders that I did not use so I passed them down to my daughter. (I did purchase the lazy Susan’s you used in your bathroom from last week for use in my bathroom - love them!). I’ve gone through a weight loss journey also and gained some back. Like decluttering, it’s an ongoing journey and I am finally starting to see the weight come off again! I wash my sheets on the 1st and 15th of each month. I live alone so it’s just me (and the cat) and like you, I love the feel of the fresh sheets. I’m hoping to go through my dresser drawers and some cube storage I have with my workout clothes. I still have too much but I continue to get rid of things…it is so freeing to get rid of things, isn’t it? In 2020, I am focusing on my home, weight (self-care) and mindfulness. Thank you for telling us that your work on the bedroom did not happen all in one day. I spent a lot of time today cleaning my enclosed back porch and was very disappointed that it didn’t look better. Then I remembered what you said and felt so much better!

So glad to see someone else putting laundry detergent in and washing the top. I've made Monday my cleaning day. I have to make the bed. We sleep on top of the bedding with individual blankets. Go figure. I fold clothes but he's responsible for putting his away. Looks good.

I bought a dyson on clearance, after I said I would never buy an expensive vacuum! It has turned out to be the best one I have ever had. I will definitely replace it with another the time comes, even if I have to pay full price.

Funny story: on no particular day this summer, I sort of did what you did, I got my room nice and tidy, changed the sheets vacuumed the floor and dusted. I was so happy, it looked and smelled so good. I left the house and when I came back several hours later, I walked into my room and there were feathers everywhere! One of my cats evidently caught a bird and brought it in through the cat door. I had to do it all again, including changing the sheets and vacuuming.

I lived in a camper with 4 golden retrievers and 1 teen , myself and my husband for 9 months while the house we were building at the time was being built..let me tell you that I learned so many organization ideas and tidy ways to do things , nothing will get you organized like tight quarters..lol after it is was all done I had it down pat, I still use so many of those things I learned. I honestly missed that time in our camper after we moved out.

Hey Jodi! You did great! I would wait to chalk paint the dresser. You never know you might get rid of enough clothes to not even need it. The drawers under you bed might be enough and would make more room in your bedroom. I chalk painted a vanity and it has held up well. Kudos! Thanks for the motivation. 💜
We painted our teenagers bathroom vanity with regular SW emerald paint in satin the paint held up fantastic zero issues over 6 years. Covid hit and I was like I'm going to chalk paint the two master vanities. Piece of cake, I've watched so many videos it's super easy and I don't have to sand. NO! Total pain it took me months to finish 2 single vanities. We are slowly fully remodeling our kids bathroom everything is being replaced except their vanity that was rough sanded and repainted again this summer SW (emerald line) Naval.
OMG I am the same with you on the sheets. I need to get better about washing them more often. I have gone litterally months without washing them. and I am ashamed to admit it. but it does feel amazing when you change the sheets. Thank you for your transperancy hopefully you will inspire me to wash or change them more often.

I wash the sheets every Friday when I clean house. I call it Friday night torture. My husband works odd shifts as a truck driver so I have always kept the weekends free for family time.

I always put my makeup on in my dining room! I stand in front of my full length mirror and have hair creams and a makeup bin in there and everyone thinks it’s so weird but it’s our home so we can do whatever we want!

Shark is amazing! Good price and works amazing. I have 3 dogs and one cat and I am a neat freak! Believe me when I tell you it is good and meets my clean freak standards. Got it from Sears years ago and still works like a champ. They sell at Costco and qvc as well.

I love that quilt! My Mom made all five of my siblings a quilt. She passed away before she could ever make me one. She passed when I was 7. Fast forward 40 years later my daughter makes me one for my birthday. Best gift ever!

Your channel is one of my favorites, you seem like such a wonderful person and so fun☺️ I know you said you were planning to paint your dresser but I had another idea, I recently did a declutter on my closet and realized I had quite a bit of room in it so I just transferred my dresser items to the closet (with hanger drawer dividers) and I got rid of my dresser all together! It may not be everyone's cup of tea but the open space in my room is amazing! Just an idea!

Jodi, this was my favorite video of all of your videos on both channels. I was so moved by it. I was 220 lbs on a 5'2" frame IN HIGHSCHOOL. I was miserable in that body and it eventually lead to my eating disorder. Going from a size 22 to a little girls size 9 and back up to a size 6 has been so emotional to me and the clothes are so hard to go through. So, I push them into bins and forget about them. Sigh.
I totally get makeup in the kitchen! I stand at my kitchen counter to do my nails and my family thinks I'm nuts. Better lighting and I'm usually baking something too.

I love your transparency. ❤️ I switched to konmari folding method and that worked for me amazingly well. Now I have more clothes but more space in my closet 🤭 another thing I love is my velvet hangers. They are magically making room for more.
I too still on my weight loss journey. I attempted to lose weight for several years unsuccessfully. So I feel you when you try hard but not able to get the achievement you want and the feeling that drags you down. Last march I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and it turns out I have gluten sensitivity which flares my illness. Now that I'm gluten free and lose weight more easily.
For the vacuum I recommend Dyson. Yes, it's pricey but it helped me to cut off my asthma medication.

Jodi, I get you on keeping clothing mementos! I'm down from a 28 to a 20! I was all the way down to a 16, but covid came, and brought extra stress pounds!! I've re-started my downward journey again just recently. I'm not into straight sizes yet (haha, it seems so silly, I lost over 100 lbs, and I'm still plus size!) Your room looks fab! Hey there….searching TH-cam for some new channels to subscribe to. Your energy in the opening was enough to catch me. Then I started listening to your story on the weight loss, and wow….you snabbed my heart!!
I’m brand new to your channel….this video is my first one of you I am watching. I live in SC. We are a military family (I’m a retired disabled veteran; but my husband is still serving well past 20 years), and have NO kids. I’m in my 40’s and sadly suffer from chronic low back pain. We have spoken to doctors and pschycologists about it, and we decided to not have kids as I cannot deal with labor or hold my children. Bending down to do laundry or dishes into dishwasher is murder. But, we do have one chihuahua that has stolen my heart. He’s right around 10 pounds and he’s momma’s whole heart.
A touch more about me is that I have a master’s degree in Information Technology, and I’m currently studying to obtain my Security Plus certification. Lots of jobs out here in the field of IT require this extra piece of education before they accept you as a candidate. So, I’m hoping to have my cert by early 2022 and to finally get a job in the IT field.
Enough about me, I’m loving your sweet / hardworking journey of weight loss. Just inspiring. I do not have this, but I have been a touch heavy for my short 5 foot 1 self. Being around 180 for about 3 years was so horrifying to me. But, once we finally moved to SC, I was able to destress and lose weight. I’m around 50 now. I’d rather be around 130, but truthfully, that won’t happen until I actually have a jo. I’m sadly lazy with not being able to work out with my back issues. I do clean on days when I’m not in complete pain. But I really could walk more and stay a touch more active. Oh well.
But hey….love this video and your energy is so silly and welcoming. LOVE it!!

I bought a refurbished Dyson in 2007 or 2008 and it is still going strong. I've had as many as 11 cats in my home at one time (fostering), so it has taken a beating.

I have chalk painted tons of furniture, I love it! Some times I use matte polyurethane to seal it and sometimes I use wax.

I inherited my mom's Kirby that's about 20 years old and it's incredible. Not only does it work well but it is easy to take apart and repair if needed.
Oh gosh I haven’t heard about Kirby’s in years! I remember those were always really good vacuums ❤️
My husband mentioned that his mum and sisters would always put make up and do their hair in the kitchen. there were 4 women in the house and only 1 bathroom so it made sense to them. we had 4 women also in our house growing up but we had 2 bathrooms and floor to ceiling mirrors in our room so it worked for us to be either in our room or bathroom. everyone does what works for them.
Oh gosh yes 1 bathroom with 4 women. They definitely had to use other spaces ❤️❤️

I would totally just get rid of the dresser, you can store everything in your closet and your under bed strorage. It will open up the room so much and you can buy a bracket to mount the TV. I can't wait to see your room painted. Great job decluttering and on your weight loss journey!

I did it so much I’m burned out. That being said the dresses is solid and would look beautiful with paint. Or keep it original and
just polish it up, put some new hardware on it and put some kind of modern decor on it. Loving those drawer dividers. I think I will get some.

Kenmore Cannister Vacuum is the only one I use. Having a long hose, several attachments to clean everything is great. Plus, the Beater Bar for the Carpet. I also have a make-up table and I love it. I couldn't get rid of much that my husband has given to me, but that is me.

I love my Dyson vacuum❤️ But I use my cheap stick cordless vacuum everyday….it’s been a game changer for me.
Shark Navigator works well, especially with furballs. As for painting furniture, I always use chalk paint and seal it with Polycrylic. It holds up extremely well.

My sister and I have a quilt that our Grandma made from from the scraps of leftover fabric from clothes she made our Mom when she was growing up. We both love it! I try to wash my sheet every week but I do change them every week. Purging our clothes can be so difficult. I frequently take a medication that causes instant weight gain so I have clothes in three sizes and just accept that I need them.

I had to sike myself up to do my clothes. They are by far the most difficult thing I decluttered in the beginning. Now it’s not as hard. I find myself going back to it again and again and decluttering more and more. Don’t worry how many times you go back to it or not, you’re doing soooo good!

I love how honest and open you are. No judgement, I started laughing when you said "we use this cardboard box for our dirty clothes. It works for us." It's true. I hated small garbage cans for the bathroom so I use umbrella holders for my bathrooms. I wash my sheets, mattress pad and quilt about every week and a half. I love the feel of freshly laundered sheets. Keeping my night stand decluttered is a constant challenge. My receipts end up there to scan into Fetch, etc.

They have crackle paint that looks great to do on older furniture. It's easy to do and seriously nice after it's done

And yes, I was giggling seeing the cat toys because they are all over my house as well. If you move anything you will definitely find a cat ball or toy they've rolled under the furniture. And vacuums, I have a love/hate relationship with them because I go through them like crazy. I love them when they're new but I too have purchased expensive, so-called better ones and see no difference with them vs. the cheaper ones. I do notice if I take it all part and put in new filters and wash them the best I can they do work better until they need to be done again. And yes, I think all the cat fur has something to do with how well they work. But again, I have 9 cats so you can imagine how much vacuuming I do. And I don't have any wall to wall carpeting; it's all vinyl flooring except for area rugs in the rooms but I vacuum the floors because if you could see the cat fur balls that seem to just appear from nowhere every day in my house, they look like tumbleweed. My husband says we should make coats from all the fur we are constantly picking up in between vacuuming. My steps seem to collect it the worst. I don't know if it just lands there or what but on any given day there are these fur balls in each corner of each step. I take wet paper towels and wipe them down daily because if I don't it will end up these massive fur piles that make the steps look like they are actually furry. LOL. And there are very few rooms that we don't allow the cats in so my house has fur all over no matter how much I try to keep up with it. But we love our fur babies and that's just part of having them.
Nancy yes!!! I only have 2 (used to have 4) but I know the fur just gets EVERYWHERE no matter what you do!

Oh that’s a great idea taking a wet paper towel! My stairs collect a lot as well, but I often see both cats napping on the stairs 🤷♀️

I got one a few weeks ago. It is really quiet. I am able to work from home when someone else is using it. My last vacuum cleaner left me feeling ill with the pitch of the noise
I wash my sheets on Friday every week. We are a household of 5. So, everyone has 1 day a week that bedding and clothes have to get washed. Bedding and clothing in our home is only washed mon- friday. Towels are washed on Saturdays.

I swapped out a formal laundry basket and now use a storage cube, smaller neater and a colour which blends in. I also switched to a insulated water imbottle for the bedside better for the environment and one less bit of clutter and the water remains cold

I bought 2 nightstands from FB marketplace that was painted with a white chalk paint. I love them but the paint chips at the slightest thing. I’m not sure if they weren’t painting correctly or if caulk paint doesn’t hold up? I just keep scarves on the top of them. Just so proud of you after watching this. 💕💕💕

Abt two years ago after a major clothing decluttering(I got rid abt 2/3rds of my wardrobe), I started folding my clothes like you are right now. I have 4 or 5 empty drawers atm....it depends on my laundry situation lol. Empty drawers are a good thing lol. I'm 5ft tall myself and usually abt a size 14/16...even though I want and hopefully will lose the excess weight, I was somewhat comfortable at this size but with the pandemic, I've definitely been lazy and I'm pushing size 18/20. If I let myself, I could probably become a blithering ball of depression but I lost weight b4(abt 70lbs) and can do it again. So I'm just going to love myself omy to my goal. Love your channel, YOU ROCK!!

I highly recommend the Shark Apex DuoClean. I have extremely long hair and a Huskey (so hair everywhere) and it's no problem for this vacuum. I'm notorious for killing vacuums and the brush getting all clogged and I have yet to do it to this vacuum in the year I've had it.
