Same but I'm a software engineer. His Paper Mario and Paper Mario the Thousand Year Door Let's Plays are what made me fall in love with his channel all those years ago. So it's really exciting seeing him revisit this game, especially since he missed a LOT of content in the original Let's Play.
A majority of people say Thousand Year Door is the best Paper Mario game, but the original is by far the greatest telling of the traditional Super Mario story.
True, PM64 is strictly "oh no, Bowser kidnapped the princess, Mario go save her" but the worldbuilding really makes it a fresh experience. TTYD and SPM threw in the (very effective) plot complication of there being _other_ evil factions, SS/CS changed it to "it's Bowser again, but he did a goof-em-up and got mind controlled", and TOK went back to having an original villain do the deed. Funny thing that just hit me: PM64 Bowser and King Olly are the only two villains (in the entire Mario franchise...?) that stole and relocated THE CASTLE ITSELF along with Peach.
@@WackoMcGoose Depends on what you mean by stole. The Shroobs in Partners in Time didn't move it, but they basically conquered the kingdom. Also Fawful in Bowser's Inside Story took it over and made it into giant fighting robot, yes seriously.

So we've got at least one castle theft in all three timelines (Paper, M&L, and mainverse).
If nothing else, Fawful pulled the same stunt of relocating Bowser’s castle for the Dimble Woods giant battle and to dodge a cannonball, so Fawful is more impressive in that he relocated two castles temporarily, and used both to battle Giant Bowser twice, even if Bowser has moved a castle to “the center of a galaxy” in Galaxy, and to space in Paper Mario 64.
If I hear one joke about his hatred towards the modern games, I'm out of here. It's so exhausting hearing him rant about Sticker Star for the 5 millionth time.
I have been watching Chugga since 2nd or 3rd grade. Now, I'm a college senior in my 20s, and seeing him play Paper Mario again makes me feel so nostalgic but soooo old

Agreed! He definitely deserves our support. I don’t want to judge or begrudge anyone when I obviously don’t know the whole story, but it sure seems like many friends turned their back on him when he needed them the most. Hope he comes back and plays some games that bring him true joy.

Goombario's Log: Day 1 Wow. This has been one of the craziest days of my life. First a massive earthquake breaks our fence, then a mysterious man falls from the sky, which turned out to be Mario. THE Mario. Man, I was so excited to finally meet him in person once he woke up. Unfortunately, things went south pretty quickly. This witch Kammy Koopa put a big block right on our fence door preventing us from leaving. And what's worse is that Bowser has kidnapped Princess Peach again. Oh man, if only there was something I could do? Goombario: Dad! Sis! What happened!? Goompapa: Goombario! This wicked Kammy Koopa just broke our fence, again. Goombaria: And worse, it seems Bowser has kidnapped Princess Peach, again. Goombaria: Aw man, what can we do? Goompapa: Don't worry son. I sent Mario to find Goompa and borrow his hammer. That should break the block no problem. Goombaria: Although, he's been in there for a while and hasn't come out yet. You think something's wrong? Goombario: Eh. Gooma's probably telling him another one of her long-winded stories. There's nothing to worry about, besides the thing that we should be worried about. Similar to the previous two comment stories, I'll cover a basic recap of the story so far and present extra conversations between the cast of characters that we will meet along the way. Think of these more like Heart-to-Heart's in Xenoblade. Just the cast getting to chat with one another about what's on their mind. P.S. This is a repost since a Telegram Bot replied to this. Damn, looks like so many of us had this pretty similar experience with the channel. I haven't watched a video of his in probably close to a decade if not more. But hearing mention of super Mario Sunshine brings memories watching it back. I'd see his vids show up from time to time and despite not watching anymore I always felt bad about unsubbing lmao. Was probably one of the first channels I subscribed to. So I never did. I'll prolly check this new stuff out, though.

I discovered your channel in 2012, when you had already LP'd the first 3 games (and before SS came out I think?) and I loved how relatable you were because you were the first Paper Mario let's player I ever heard of. Nobody in school knew what Paper Mario was or even that there WERE Mario RPGs. You were a big inspiration in me becoming a let's player (and while I'm still small-time I know I can get better with practice and effort) and I only stopped watching when you weren't covering games I played because I didn't want to get spoiled. So thanks to you, from the bottom of my heart. Mine was Majora's Mask, after watching several highlight videos by JEMyles and BaneOfXistance4. Back in 2012 or 2013, when I was looking up Legend of Zelda videos after playing OoT 3DS.
i recommend watching the old playthrough FIRST before the current one. cause you get to see how chugga has evolved, also it'll make this playthrough feel more complete, because you'll have innocent young chugga giving his thoughts on everything. Try it out!
As a "newer" viewer (I found this channel during the Earthbound lp remake) I am very excited for this let's play. It's really cool to see a modern version of an old let's play that I probably wouldn't have watched because of its age.

My heart skipped a beat seeing this on my recommended. Whole reason i found chuggaa was cause i needed a walkthrough while playing ttyd when I was little and since then i've always loved his channel. This was a nice breath of nostalgia to see him play this again
No way, I had the same experience! I didn't realise Paper Mario and Paper Mario ttyd were different games, so I was getting all confused by the text walk-throughs 😖 finally decided to click on a video, realized it was a different game, but just got so enraptured that I kept watching lol
19:48 - 20:10 - I love this moment so much. I’m tearing right now, as I wrote this comment. The ethereal hum, the slow pan down, the whole screen fading to white as Mario sinks beneath the clouds. And then, the main motif creeps back in, the title card appears, and music ascends in an almost playful, hopeful tone. This 30 seconds is such a powerful tone setter, and all of the props in the world to Yuka Tsujiyoko for her amazing score throughout this game.
I still remember the original paper Mario LP as one of, if not THE first LP series I saw on youtube, and one of my earliest memories of the site as a whole. Really brings me back seeing this again... It's astounding to see how far you've come 14 years later, all without losing any of that charm!
I'm watching his 14 year old play through of this BEFORE he reaches the same point in the modern playthrough of this. it'll be cool to see how Chugga has evolved his LP's in the last 14 years.

It's so weird. I watched Chuggaa when I was a kid, and even if I can't name any specific memories, I remember the vibe watching any of them gave. Seeing this, something new yet so familiar, feels... so odd, but so good.
God, what a nostalgia trip. I haven't heard chugga's voice in so long that hearing him now brings me back to my childhood. and the choice in game certainly helps with that.

Chuggaa's not kidding about the soundtrack. To this day PM64's music gallery is the most magical out of all of the Paper Marios. It goes without saying that TTYD and SPM can only dream of having as good a soundtrack. Not even the complex instruments of modern Paper Mario songs have anywhere near the same level of wonder this game has.

I could see the end of the second line of the invitation texture being "Kinoko Palace", given that Toad Town was called Kinoko (Mushroom) Town in the Japanese version of the game. Somehow I never watched the original LP back in the day despite knowing of your channel via the Super Mario Galaxy and original EarthBound series, so it'll be great seeing a more thorough coverage of it in the vein of your modern work! I'd be glad to chime in from the comments if there're ever interesting battle mechanics questions that end up coming up, as well!

The only Paper Mario I ever experienced was Sticker Star, purely because it was a new release on the first console I owned. (is a DS a console?) I heard the original games were much more loved in the Paper Mario community, but never got the chance to play through, or watch a play through of one. I can't express how excited I am to watch you play through this!

The floating Bowser's castle in Super Circuit's Rainbow Road is a bit surprising looking back on it, as Mario RPG references in Mario Kart are rather rare from what I've seen. Other than that, there's like, Baby Peach in MK Wii?

I started watching this channel in 2008. I stopped for several years as I navigated high school and some college. It is so, so nice to come back and start Paper Mario with him again. I'm trying not to cry from the happy memories I had so many years ago.

The Mario Movie teaser seems to be heavily influenced by Paper Mario. Bowser’s Flying Fortress, Bowser gathering the legendary Stars, Kamek, the world building such as the Shiver Region inspired location, Bowser being a legit threat and very good personality with what little we saw of him, etc.
I mean Kamek wasn't in this game. But i guess expecting Nintendo to acknowledge Kammy is way too unrealistic (because they hate anything original to the RPGs)
4:04 I wonder if the “friend who asked to go uncredited” was Masae. We know from Twitter by the time Splatoon 2 was being uploaded the two were no longer friends and Masae was upset that Emile kept footage of their play sessions together in the LP. Given how far in advance LPs are planned I wouldn’t be surprised if Masse had some hand in the research process, and Chugga knowing he was already on her bad side, kept her uncredited for this LP. As for why he’d still refer to her as a “friend” I can think of 3 possibilities: A. Emile had yet to realize Masae no longer considered him a friend B. Emile couldn’t think of another way to word the credit C. Emile was hoping there was still a chance of reconciliation at this point
@skibot9974 I kinda doubt it could've been MasaeAnela. Things had already completely detoriated and ended couple years prior to this L.P. beginning. It might've just been a friend who asked to remain anonymous.

I think Chugga once stated he had begun preping the Splatoon 2 LP in early 2018 While Splatoon 2 was a special case given the multiplayer segment I’d imagine Chugga’s reaction to Origami King spurred him to make this LP which would’ve been sometime after June 2020 and we now know Chugga and Masae broke up by the end of 2021

Paper Mario was one of the first series of Emile’s that I have seen over 12 years ago so it’s really nice to see the channel come full circle

Wow. This has been one of the craziest days of my life. First a massive earthquake breaks our fence, then a mysterious man falls from the sky, which turned out to be Mario. THE Mario. Man, I was so excited to finally meet him in person once he woke up. Unfortunately, things went south pretty quickly. This witch Kammy Koopa put a big block right on our fence door preventing us from leaving. And what's worse is that Bowser has kidnapped Princess Peach again. Oh man, if only there was something I could do?
Goombario: Dad! Sis! What happened!?
Goompapa: Goombario! This wicked Kammy Koopa just broke our fence, again.
Goombaria: And worse, it seems Bowser has kidnapped Princess Peach, again.
Goombaria: Aw man, what can we do?
Goompapa: Don't worry son. I sent Mario to find Goompa and borrow his hammer. That should break the block no problem.
Goombaria: Although, he's been in there for a while and hasn't come out yet. You think something's wrong?
Goombario: Eh. Gooma's probably telling him another one of her long-winded stories. There's nothing to worry about, besides the thing that we should be worried about.
Similar to the previous two comment stories, I'll cover a basic recap of the story so far and present extra conversations between the cast of characters that we will meet along the way. Think of these more like Heart-to-Heart's in Xenoblade. Just the cast getting to chat with one another about what's on their mind.

I discovered your channel in 2012, when you had already LP'd the first 3 games (and before SS came out I think?) and I loved how relatable you were because you were the first Paper Mario let's player I ever heard of. Nobody in school knew what Paper Mario was or even that there WERE Mario RPGs. You were a big inspiration in me becoming a let's player (and while I'm still small-time I know I can get better with practice and effort) and I only stopped watching when you weren't covering games I played because I didn't want to get spoiled. So thanks to you, from the bottom of my heart. Mine was Majora's Mask, after watching several highlight videos by JEMyles and BaneOfXistance4. Back in 2012 or 2013, when I was looking up Legend of Zelda videos after playing OoT 3DS.
i recommend watching the old playthrough FIRST before the current one. cause you get to see how chugga has evolved, also it'll make this playthrough feel more complete, because you'll have innocent young chugga giving his thoughts on everything.

No way, I had the same experience! I didn't realise Paper Mario and Paper Mario ttyd were different games, so I was getting all confused by the text walk-throughs 😖 finally decided to click on a video, realized it was a different game, but just got so enraptured that I kept watching lol
I found him via therunwayguys playing Mario party 2 he seemed the most energetic through the videos ,so it appealed to me.
19:48 - 20:10 - I love this moment so much. I’m tearing right now, as I wrote this comment. The ethereal hum, the slow pan down, the whole screen fading to white as Mario sinks beneath the clouds. And then, the main motif creeps back in, the title card appears, and music ascends in an almost playful, hopeful tone. This 30 seconds is such a powerful tone setter, and all of the props in the world to Yuka Tsujiyoko for her amazing score throughout this game.

It's so weird. I watched Chuggaa when I was a kid, and even if I can't name any specific memories, I remember the vibe watching any of them gave. Seeing this, something new yet so familiar, feels... so odd, but so good.
God, what a nostalgia trip. I haven't heard chugga's voice in so long that hearing him now brings me back to my childhood. and the choice in game certainly helps with that.

Chuggaa's not kidding about the soundtrack. To this day PM64's music gallery is the most magical out of all of the Paper Marios. It goes without saying that TTYD and SPM can only dream of having as good a soundtrack. Not even the complex instruments of modern Paper Mario songs have anywhere near the same level of wonder this game has.
I'm in love with the Chapter 7 stuff. The tracks from there have that mysterious vibe to them

I could see the end of the second line of the invitation texture being "Kinoko Palace", given that Toad Town was called Kinoko (Mushroom) Town in the Japanese version of the game.
Somehow I never watched the original LP back in the day despite knowing of your channel via the Super Mario Galaxy and original EarthBound series, so it'll be great seeing a more thorough coverage of it in the vein of your modern work! I'd be glad to chime in from the comments if there're ever interesting battle mechanics questions that end up coming up, as well!

The only Paper Mario I ever experienced was Sticker Star, purely because it was a new release on the first console I owned. (is a DS a console?) I heard the original games were much more loved in the Paper Mario community, but never got the chance to play through, or watch a play through of one. I can't express how excited I am to watch you play through this!

The floating Bowser's castle in Super Circuit's Rainbow Road is a bit surprising looking back on it, as Mario RPG references in Mario Kart are rather rare from what I've seen. Other than that, there's like, Baby Peach in MK Wii?

The Mario Movie teaser seems to be heavily influenced by Paper Mario.
Bowser’s Flying Fortress, Bowser gathering the legendary Stars, Kamek, the world building such as the Shiver Region inspired location, Bowser being a legit threat and very good personality with what little we saw of him, etc.
I mean Kamek wasn't in this game. But i guess expecting Nintendo to acknowledge Kammy is way too unrealistic (because they hate anything original to the RPGs)

4:04 I wonder if the “friend who asked to go uncredited” was Masae. We know from Twitter by the time Splatoon 2 was being uploaded the two were no longer friends and Masae was upset that Emile kept footage of their play sessions together in the LP.
Given how far in advance LPs are planned I wouldn’t be surprised if Masse had some hand in the research process, and Chugga knowing he was already on her bad side, kept her uncredited for this LP.
As for why he’d still refer to her as a “friend” I can think of 3 possibilities:
A. Emile had yet to realize Masae no longer considered him a friend
B. Emile couldn’t think of another way to word the credit
C. Emile was hoping there was still a chance of reconciliation at this point
@skibot9974 I kinda doubt it could've been MasaeAnela. Things had already completely detoriated and ended couple years prior to this L.P. beginning. It might've just been a friend who asked to remain anonymous.

While Splatoon 2 was a special case given the multiplayer segment I’d imagine Chugga’s reaction to Origami King spurred him to make this LP which would’ve been sometime after June 2020 and we now know Chugga and Masae broke up by the end of 2021
