    Your review is one of the few on TH-cam for the newer manual-transmission Versas, and probably the best overall review for the model. If you're new to manual transmissions, you'll grow to enjoy the lack of "rev-hang" that you noted at 6:18, since most new manual-equipped cars (including sports cars) have some rev-hang built in for emissions purposes and it tends to hinder smooth up and down shifting. Thanks again for the great review, I ended up purchasing my own 5-speed "S" Versa after watching your channel.

  • @David_Liu93
    @David_Liu93 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Yep, totally agree with you that the manual transmission is no big deal. It only requires getting used to it and developing some muscle memory. Of course when in the city with the hectic traffic it can be not comfortable at first, but after a couple of months your brain doesn't even think about it. And if you drive on the country roads or highways a lot, you simply shift to 4th or 5th gear and forget about it.

    • @dbaKen
      @dbaKen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Right. Some practice and anyone could do it!

  • @irongoose3865

    I was reading the owner's manual for shifting these cars and it said for normal acceleration to shift at the following speeds for each gear. 1st 9mph, 2nd 12mph, 3rd 21mph, 4th 28 mph, 5th
    And for quick acceleration 1st 15mph, 2nd 25mph, 3rd 40mph, 4th 45 mph, 5th
    And then it said not to exceed the maximum suggested speeds for each gear.
    1st 28mph, 2nd 52mph, 3rd 76mph, 4th 104mph, 5th.

    To rev match in new versa it helps to keep a steady rpm and don't let foot up off gas when hitting clutch and lightly press gas more instead of a blip, heel-toe is near impossible with depth distance of gas pedal and brake

    • @dbaKen
      @dbaKen  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I eventually got it nailed down with time. Just doesn’t have auto rev match like some newer cars and my opinion is my new to me 2004 Mustang Mach 1 - 5 speed is easier to drive than the Versa was lol.

    I've heard rev hang was quite bad with these cars and not what you said about the RPMs dropping really fast.
    From what I understand one wants the RPMs to drop fast if you like shifting fast for performance driving.
    I drove stick for 8 years and about 160,000 miles. I can't remember what it was like, it's been since around 1995.
    I'll just have to take one for a test drive and find out for myself.

    Do you still have your Versa? I'm curious if your car has a slight whirring noise from the throwout bearing while in neutral at idle that disappears with the clutch in. I think this is normal for our cars, I just want to see if another 5mt owner has the same thing going on.

    this is awesome love these versa especially w/5-spd manual, I still regret buying the CVT. if you're going to buy the CVT spec you're going to need the extended powertrain warranty, bcuz when CVT starts having issues you're going to be wishing you had the extended powertrain warranty. it's very expensive to rebuild and replace $5K.
