Hi, thanks for sharing, this was very helpful. I have a question; Will this JBL unit work with this mixer? Original JBL Creature Power Supply Adapter TA661835OT 18VAC 3.5A OEM Tested

hi, I have an ALTO amx100 mixer that looks pretty much identical to the one that you show here. But I lost the power adapter for it a long time ago. So I found that I could not order any adapter from ALTO because it is a legacy product in thier parts supply. So I bought a power supply from Amazon. It's manual says it adapter uses 18V. On the adapter I bought, is one that has multiple voltage selection and polarity selection also. But I cannot tell from the manual what the polarity should be set to. One your unit, is the plug for the adapter, + on the center pin? I'm in Canada so the unit uses 110V. If I used the wrong polarity, Would that damage the mixer?
    thanks Barry

Neither. The AMX-120 I have uses AC, not DC. Yours is the same, given the schematic I found (Search Google for 'AMX-100 Service Manual'). You need an old, linear transformer supply that outputs 18v AC.
If you use a DC supply of either polarity, it will power up only the negative or the positive rail of the mixer, and will not work properly. This may or may not cause damage but it is probably not a good idea.

This exact same thing happened to me with a Joemeek ThreeQ preamp I got for dirt cheap, allegedly not working
